For anyone who is interested, I've actually been given an incredibly useful tip. Starting Gollum multiball will turn off Destroy the Ring, meaning when Fellowship is the final mode left, the proper play would have been to start Gollum, and then use that to finish Fellowship prior to starting Destroy the Ring. This progression would have saved having to start TTT and ROTK.

I'm sorry, but pinball is much more than flailing around a ball preventing it from draining. And he NEVER spoiled the game while playing, he just wanted to get ahead with certain objectives. But if you want to play pinball the casual way that's fine. I'll just head to my Stern Star Trek and play though all 18 modes.

This is my favorite LOTR video. It teaches me a lot of the strategies as well as the way to "handle" three balls in multi-ball in a clever way. Very hard to do. It shows patience and focus on the prize. The most perfect ending as well. I can't say I was disappointed at first but it's like the movie "The Commitments". It would not have been as artful to have them just win the day. Also, it makes it more exciting when (not if) I finally get to Valinor. I LOVE PAPApinball!!!

so with two EBs saved, could you now have just replayed destroy the ring? or did you have to go and play, or at least start, all three multiballs again? also i found it painful every time you deliberately drained a ball. that was like killing a kitten.

I get through FotR by backhanding the sword ramp and hitting Balrog from the right flipper. You can also light the palantir during multiball and get one add-a-ball to help you extend your chances.

Actually playing without the glass is what saved his ball on this case otherwise it would have been a drain :D It's a common rip off on LOTR on the left ramp.. Maybe the metallic rails aren't thick enough ? Don't know..

@ch282 I guess that the ball wouldn't be able to fit between the apron and the playfield glass. After a loud noise, caused by a ball smacking the glass, the ball would land into left outlane.

LotR noob question: if you're playing War of the Ents to help qualify the RotK multi-ball, wouldn't you be better off building up the switch values in PotD before starting the mode?

I just had a fantastic game on Lord of the rings setting up Valinor and started destroy the ring but lost my ball after getting 3 of the shots! :( I managed to relight destroy the ring but lost my last ball... Feel your frustration!

The most successful and phenomenonal Multiball to play with Hurry Up in Lord of the Rings Pinball is the Two Towers Mulitball because specifically when you spell Keep the Keep will light the lock on the sword.

I have to say, LOTR Stern pinball isn't one of my favourites, I find it VERY hard to keep the ball in play as half the damn time, it either drains from the flippers OR just drains when I'm in the Balrog fight part. Same goes for the Multiballs no matter if it's FOTR, TT, ROTK or Gollum Multiball, the balls are shot really fast so you never get a chance to save the balls.

I don’t understand the ending... he was on ball 2 with extra ball available. Is there a reason that failing to destroy the ring there makes you ineligible for Valinor? Or is it simply frustration that 3 multiballs must be started again before destroying the ring?

@@Thice123 Because to get back to Destroy the Ring, he'd have to restart all three multiballs. TTT and RotK aren't too bad since their requirements never get any harder (in fact, I'd say RotK actually gets _easier_ over time due to the number of souls you get from landing in the Shire at the end of Path of the Dead increasing each time you make it, up to a maximum of 750). FotR, however, is _notoriously_ difficult to start beyond the first attempt due to it requiring _eight_ shots in a _very_ specific order, plus hitting the bumpers enough times to collect Boromir, _also_ at a very specific time. It's a Herculean task that you want to have on your plate as little as humanly possible.

It's friggin hard to hit the center shot hard enough to hit the ring. I've gotten over 270 million in this game and never once destroyed the ring and have hard time initating the ring modes. I get the ball to go to the center ramp easily but it always falls short of the ring...

The coin door was open so we could use a cooling fan on the flippers. When the coin door is open, the kickout is different.

PAPApinball Ahh, that makes sense I should have guessed it was the coin door. It certainly looked helpful for collecting souls via PoTD! I've heard the flipper coils on this machine really heat up, is a cooling fan a good idea for an at home setup as well? I've never heard of such a thing honestly!

ElendilAndurilz In this case, the game plays for so long that shots toward the end of the video wouldn't have been possible without a fan. Some players mount them inside the game, or use RC Car fans that clip onto the coils, but in 99% of cases you don't need it. It's just a mod for when you know a game is going to be played for hours.

PAPApinball Okay, so it really only becomes an issue if the heat on the coils is weakening the flippers and causes shots to be more difficult/impossible. I do own this particular machine, and I've never experienced that even after 1-2 hour games! I wonder if my locations is just well enough ventilated, or if the machine just doesn't have enough play on it yet.

ElendilAndurilz Correct. There's upgraded flipper coils out there too, so perhaps your game has those. Also, things like game pitch come into play. Mainly it's the center ring shot that becomes impossible after a period of time.

Draining resets the progress towards Valinor for all the multiballs. That made it basically impossible to get to Valinor at that point.

That camera view has a severe impact on the player, and is not practical for competition play. Basically think about where that camera is and what it means for the person playing...
