If you unbind the book (and good luck trying to rebind it), you could run the pages through a double scanner - my Fujitsu ScanSnap could scan both sides of your 800 page book in 5 minutes (or maybe quicker). The resulting pdf can be OCR'd to get the words and numbers. But maybe the pdf is all you would need.

Awesome tips. I have a book I want to do exactly what you did, but had never gotten to it. Now I know how to do it seamlessly.

May years ago, I scanned two or three books using a desk scanner and an OCR software to convert the pages to text. But those were very early days, and the scans had to be perfect; otherwise the software would make many mistakes. It was a very laborious process and I quickly gave up. After this “home-made” experiment, I can clearly see how AI will make this pretty simple to accomplish. Maybe there's already affordable software out there for this.

I was staggered to discover when having saved a photo on my Mac which had a signpost in the background, that the text on the sign post in the photo was selectable in the _'Preview App',_ I mean... that's off the scale. So nowadays, I'm often taking a photo, saving it to my Mac before selecting the text to paste in a document. So it seems we no longer need dedicated software anymore! Credit to you for the patience of taking a photo of every page, thats dedication.

That's a great feature. It's alo available on more recent iPhones and Android phones. I use it here and there, but never with a long text like these book pages. But I'll certainly try it. Thanks for reminding me of that.

@@vladcampos It shocked me, I hadn't realised just how far along technology had advanced nor how it creeps forwards unnoticed all around us. As a studious Christian that informs me that we are either there already, or at least close to the sentient technology spoken of in Revelation 13:14-18 which was once laughed at, but today is rather sobering for those who consider where this is heading. Watching your video had me consider converting a few of my physical books into ePub format, but the challenge was just too daunting, maybe the day isn't too far off when we can video ourselves thumbing through a physical book and then drop the video file into a _'Video to ePub converter!',_ Now that I could handle :)

Here I still need to proofread everything. The AI that transcribes occasionally hallucinates. It builds sometimes different sentences, and numbers are not always correct.

Do you mean Evernote's AI? I remember reading in one of the recent updates release notes that they fixed a bug like this. Have you tried using it recently?

Hi Vlad, very informative as always. can it work for Kindle also
@vladcampos28 күн бұрын
If I'm not mistaken, Kindles can now read ePubs. If that's the case, it should work. I suggest converting a single page of some text to test it first. Then use your Kindle email to send it to the device.

How long will it take to scan an almost 800 page book? I have long wanted to find a fast and easy method of turning a paper book into an ebook.

I think that as I get more used to the process, I will end up taking about 1 minute or less per page. But, like I said in the video, I don't plan to sit down and do all at once. That book has big pages, meaning that the 18 I scanned ended up as 47 on the Supernote. My strategy is to do it in batches. I'll probably be converting about 20 to 30 pages per weekend or when I'm about to finish reading the previously converted.
