Learn how to make your very own self mask out of paper mache, literally create an exact copy of your face, with this easy tutorial. Combine the use of a plaster gauze face cast with a simple paper mache technique, to get amazing results. For the face cast (that will be your mold) you will need: petroleum gelly (or another kind of oily cream suitable for your skin), food wrap film, plaster gauze and water. For the mask itself you need newspaper, wood glue, petroleum gelly and food wrap film and also plastic colors to paint over.
During the face cast making please make sure that a) you apply a lot of Vaseline or oily cream on your face to protect it b) you don't cover eyes and nostrils with the plaster gauze and c)you have a person with you to help if needed.
A bonus thing with this technique is that with the facecast you can make many paper mache masks of your own face, treat each one with different colors and decorations.
Enjoy!

Thank you very much! I want to make a mold of my friend's face so I can design a mask and eye patch for him that will fit properly and I didn't want to mess with plaster of paris or things that were too messy. I remember using newspapers and a watery glue mix in grade school so it should be fun to try this.

Love your mask videos! So many different ways to make a mask. I tried this method and it worked very well! One thing I did differently is to do the paper mache on the outside of the cast rather than the inside, because frankly I thought it was easier. Thank you for sharing!

@babongababonga9588

Plastic wrap protects the mask's surface from becoming stained with the oily petroleum jelly. The oil stains will be a problem if you want to paint it after (plus the mask will never dry properly).
