Incredible video, but the highlight without a doubt was hearing your girlfriend rant about peach's cake

I remember playing this game for the first time at a friend's house. They had it on their Wii. At the time, I didn't know what the Virtual Console was (internet wasn't a big thing in my house) so I just asked my grandma for Paper Mario on the Wii. No surprise, she got me Super Paper Mario instead for Christmas. Which I'm thankful for now. But getting this game on VC a few years later was such a formative experience for my taste in games. Nice to see such a cool channel taking a look at this game.

This video was AMAZING, the only reason I speak English is Paper Mario 64, I used to rent this game from the local game renter at my city every now and then, and Paper Mario was the first RPG I ever played. I was able to beat almost the entire game from start to finish, except for chapter 2, I did find out through experimentation that you can make Sheik questions be cheaper if you gave him lemons, but since I couldn't read English and I skipped dialogs, the secret code at the shop was a hurdle I wasn’t able to jump. But one day one of the saves was just after the Chater 2 Princess Peach’s interlude, so I was able to go through chapter 3 to the final boss without much problem, but the fact that I couldn’t go trough chapter 2 in its entirety kept bugging me. So I got my English dictionary (that I had to have thanks to School) and started to translate every sentence one by one, it took me the entire weekend to go trough the prolog, but thanks to that I found out that Mario can block attacks (until then I tough the only action commands were the ones for attacks, I need LOTS of healing items back at the first chapter). After this, I beat chapter 2 and got almost 100% at the game (Tasty T. recipes were something I wouldn’t venture into). And today my English is at a level where I can travel abroad and speak English with confidence and even see entire videos and understand the spoken English perfectly. Paper Mario has a very special place in my heart thanks to this. Now I want to see you talking about the second game: Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door

Your girlfriend's rant about the cake was awesome😂 If you ever have her play the next two games, I'll be very curious to hear her thoughts on those games' stories! With all that said, this video was amazing! It really made me feel appreciate it again much more after having been exposed to only The Thousand-Year Door for a bit recently. Thank you for making this!

Great video! I really liked the short story at the end about your memories about the console and getting the game in the mail. It’s great to hear someone talk about something that so obviously brings them a lot of joy.

Great video, should have way more views! Perfectly captures how I feel about the game. Didn't even grow up with it but just has such a magical charm that's hard to define. I really need to check out the thousand year door one of these days...

This goes into Thousand Year Door as well. About the badge system. Since it’s my favorite system in any game period I’ve of course broken the game like you have. I can beat TTYD in one sitting basically speed running it. But that’s not why I enjoy it. So every year when I go back to replay it a few times I usually set up different rules each time for a unique experience. It really keeps the game from feeling boring after 60+ playthroughs

Very underrated video! I appreciate the long form analysis as well as all the time, thought, effort and love that went into this. Getting your girlfriend to give an outsider’s perspective was both a very smart move and extremely funny at times (her complaining about the cake section cracked me up). This video may not have yielded the return you may have wanted, but this is a clear example of quality over quantity and you should be proud about it! Paper Mario is a very dear game to me and I think you covered it quite well from its general game design to how it leads the player throughout its challenges. I have this habit of making massive replies for no reason but to conclude, well done and I’ll definitely be checking out some more of your content

Love the video! OG Paper Mario holds a special place in my heart; I return and play it periodically to this day. You captured what makes it magical so well that I found myself actively agreeing with you out loud at certain points. You deserve more views, sir. I'd personally love to see a similar style video for TTYD.

I remember first getting this as a rental from Blockbuster. Loved it, kept renting it from Blockbuster which meant I never had a chance beat it. Until, when I was older, I had the money to buy it and finally get through the whole thing. Damn, even playing it as an adult for the first time I loved it so much.

I find it very funny hearing that this game kept your attention as a child because you were never in the same area for more then a few hours because I was so horrendously bad at paper Mario as a kid that it took me years of playing it on and off to beat it for the first time, I remember chapter 3 taking me multiple months to beat when I was playing it almost every day after school. I kinda miss being so horrible at games and stupid with understand what I was supposed to be doing that games I can beat in an afternoon now felt like these Herculean tasks that I didn’t even expect to ever be able to beat

Paper Mario was my second JRPG after SMRPG and in my top 5 games ever. While I like the genre I was very disappointed many 'real' JRPGs arent structured to be balanced, puzzly and goofy like Paper Mario Also every Paper Mario (including TTYD) has been very disappointing.
