This is Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door!
The game everyone loves and loves to tell you about how much they love it. If you've been here for a while you might have noticed we like it quite a bit too. Though usually our playthroughs are some kind of challenge run where we skip all text to get to the gameplay. BUT NOT THIS TIME!
This playthrough is part of our out of order conquest to casually relive all Paper Mario games, together with my co-comm Lenny! Just in time for the remake to get a good feel of what's changed from a more casual perspective!
Like usual; if there's any cool secrets, obscure or funny dialogue and details you know about, be sure to tell us in the comments or on Discord. I know a lot about this game, but I don't know literally everything! Also I might just forget certain things.

I remember being so scared and confused by that fake chapter ending when I first played this. Backtracking aside, it’s things like that that make it one of my favorite chapters in the game

I like how both Doopliss and the Atomic Boo both have the same stats as Rawk Hawk.

How would a battle between them play out? Each side gets a going first try, and they have all move cues and thresholds. Including the making a copy of Rawk Hawk cause of course.

Doo- Uh... Liss? Er... Rumpel? Anyway his theme has to be the song I'm most excited for in the remake. It's equal parts goofy and ghastly and I just love it. Considering they've been extending the songs too I wonder what they might add.

This was always an interesting twist. I'm always curious: so Doopliss swaps bodies with Mario, does that mean when the 'shadow' speaks, that's actually the player talking and not Doopliss? Because at that point, Doopliss would have control of Mario's body, so how would his voice still be in the shadow? Yes, I know I'm overthinking this.

It’s the cartoon version where you can swap vocal cords too, or maybe not, and Doopliss loves using the Mario voice to say cheesy stuff in a higher pitch. Mario himself doesn’t look like Doopliss nor lose his voice, so when speaking to Vivian he’s voiced as usual.

I had the Prima strategy guides for Sonic Advance 2, Pokemon Emerald, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic 06, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness. The Sonic Advance 2 one was the most useful of all of them (for getting the special rings to get to the special stages).

I do wonder if the Crystal Star did anything here. The bell does the pig’s business, and this boss morphs, but making you a shadow seems to be his thing too. It would be funny if “hey that worked out perfectly” he thinks after fully taking your look and leaving you a shadow.

0:22 Not a bell one specifically, but let's not forget we've already seen a boss at the top of a tower in this very game and there's also one in Paper Mario 64 so jokes aside it would be a fair assumption on Mario's part. 3:05 It's 15, Duplighosts are quite sturdy despite their looks. 7:12 The biggest of cheaters, Hooktail had to eat the audience to heal! 18:10 Almost looks like a Blood Moon from Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom is occurring. 21:48 ????? offending countless Italian parents at once. 24:33 I guess it isn't just ????? who is extremely rude, everyone is!

KZbin streams can only be up to 12 hours, and twitch streams can only be up to 48 hours.

I like the bell being part of it. It’s intriguing in the OG, playful and not so intense but fast. He’s not really epic enough to require much else, so it’s got a chance to recreate this vibe or improve it.
