I’m attempting a bookshelf quilt and want to have some squares that are natural looking i.e. books tipping over, like we all have. I’m thinking paper piecing would be my best option. I’m just unsure if there’s some kind of order that I should go in. I assume from the center out, but beyond that, I’m unsure.

Can a famous traditional swan piece be converted to a foundation paper piecing method easily. I’m not a quilter but have done some quilting. Your input would be most valuable I bought my first quilt pattern with fabric and it was NOT foundation paper piecing. Hope this makes sense thx a bunch!

Do you have any tutorials on how to dissect a drawing to make it a paper piercing template? I am interested in taking like a coloring book page and making a template. Thanks Sandy

Hi Sandy! I don't have any videos on that topic yet. If I were going to take a coloring book page and try to make a quilt block from it, I would go with applique as it would be easier to accommodate curves in the drawings. Not everyone likes applique but I have some ideas to make it easier to do. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead. This week I tried paper piecing a mini churn dash and friendship star. The churn dash turned out ok and still working on the other. I kept screwing up placement for the star. I have done a few paper pieced blocks before. I wonder if my brain is fuzzy. You should see my Halloween psycho cat wall hanging from about 15 years ago! Intricate little pieces so one eye looks a little off. Hence, Psycho Cat! Take care, Marion

I'm stopping video here before you get to the flying geese and maybe your going to explain it before this video is over but how is the seam allowance calibrated between the 1, 2 and 3 on the lines of the kite? You show it on the outside but its not included in the middle??

That’s the point of FPP. You don’t need the seam allowance drawn (calibrated) in between the pieces 1, 2 and 3. You just use a rough size of fabric for each piece, sew on the paper, and that IS your seam allowance. You can trim the extra off the rough/larger size of fabric (enough to cover the space of the 1, 2 and 3 pieces) at 1/4” after it’s sewn to neaten it up!
