if it’s helpful for anyone - wasn’t working for me until i discovered my paper texture had hue. once i fully desaturated it, i could play with the curves as shown

Thanks this is very good! I have a small issue with this method when using some canvases - when changing a canvas' Curve, it has imbalanced colors and it makes some parts of it completely black and other parts too bright. How could I still use this method in such case?

HI BullHorn. Try using the HUE/SATURATION/BRIGHTNESS slider in the ADJUSTMENTS button as well to get the perfect balance of light and dark that you need. If all else fails, you can always paint out the light or dark sections you don't want. Hope this helps!

Hi matteo. I thing printing on any textured will result in a textured look. No need to apply it digitally, unless you want it to be more pronounced. :)

I need help!! Every time I do this after adjusting curves instead of turning white ish it turns red! I don’t know what to do and I’ve tried multiple different files.

Hi Lions! I think the overlay image that you're using isn't fully desaturated, meaning there is a tinge of color in the layer which is probably why when you adjust the curves it amplifies what little color is there. Before you do anything, first go to ADJUSTMENTS and tap on HUE, SATURATION AND BRIGHTNESS option and set your saturation to 0%. Hope this helps!

It's to add highlights. Screen only adds the shadow which is enough for a paper texture effect, but adding another layer that's darkened and set to multiply adds a bit more dimension. :)

Thank you for the tutorial but uhh… its really crunchy and pixelated ;-; Probably didn’t do something right but at least you were able to help a lot of people with this! Edit: NEVERMIND! The white layer is for the shadows while the black layer is for the highlights. It adds more realism to the texture. :)
