I like Guberman's take on Tekhelet and the way he produced that beautiful blue right before our very eyes was very intriguing, like magic, really! He explains that this ancient dye is all about perspective, faith and reminding one's self of where they come from.

A famous line from Homer (archaic Ancient Greek) states "And jealous now of me, you gods, because I befriend a man, one I saved as he straddled the keel alone, when Zeus had blasted and shattered his swift ship with a bright lightning bolt, out on the wine-dark sea" The wine-dark sea. The amount of colours we differentiate between in the modern world is crazy; in ancient times, the colours were more likely to be grouped together (based on the "darkness" and similar things). This means that whether something is technically purple or technically blue is not really a discussion they would have had (clear purple is of course different, but a blue-ish purple could easily have been called the same as a purple-ish blue). That is why the "wine-dark sea" makes sense in Homer. Because the point wasn't the shade, it was the *feeling* - and the interesting fact that there was no word for "blue" in Ancient Greek (that we know of). 😊 Erin Hoffman writes about other colours in Homer's odyssey: "sheep were also the color of wine; honey was green, as were the fear-filled faces of men; and the sky is often described as bronze. It gets stranger. Not only was Homer’s palette limited to only five colors (metallics, black, white, yellow-green, and red), but a prominent philosopher even centuries later, Empedocles, believed that all color was limited to four categories: white/light, dark/black, red, and yellow. Xenophanes, another philosopher, described the rainbow as having but three bands of color: porphyra (dark purple), khloros, and erythros (red). The conspicuous absence of blue is not limited to the Greeks. The color “blue” appears not once in the New Testament, and its appearance in the Torah is questioned (there are two words argued to be types of blue, sappir and tekeleth, but the latter appears to be arguably purple, and neither color is used, for instance, to describe the sky). Ancient Japanese used the same word for blue and green (青 Ao), and even modern Japanese describes, for instance, thriving trees as being “very blue,” retaining this artifact (青々とした: meaning “lush” or “abundant”)." What we classify as purple or blue is not necessarily what they classified as such, and so the voxpop "what color is the sky" does not really make sense 😅 clarkesworldmagazine.com/hoffman_01_13/

Should take more seriously what the old man is saying. colour names can be vague and all just a blurring from one to the next with different cultures placing the boarders in different places even in modern times. They might have had the same name for blue AND purple because theyre so close.

Which bible says to at the blue on the tzit-tzits is to remind the wearer of the sea creature? Never heard that. I thought it was to be a reminder of the commandments.

Also, I’m unaware if the scripture that specifies where the blue is to be sourced. Please elaborate!
