He originally wasn’t the head, it was the warrior god Tyr that was the head. Then as a concept of ruling nobility and esoteric mysticism sweeped through Germanic peoples Odin became top dog. Then in the last days of Norse Pagans Thor became top dog, a hero ruler to fight against the Christians that were their enemies. Also, some places had gods other than Odin as top dog, like southern Sweden had Freyr.

Balder can't die because of a curse from Freya because she didn't ever want her child to hurt or die. But as a result of the curse couldn't feel pain, pleasure, heat, cold, anything. Couldn't taste smell or anything. What brakes his curse is a mistletoe arrow or spear because of Löki.

@@RAMMSSHADOW you are wrong tho, please stop taking info from video games. The gods decided to protect baldr (the most beautiful and loved god of all) by making every being and essence swear on Odins spear (oaths sworn on the spear cannot be broken) to not hurt Baldr. This angered Loki and he found out from drunk gods that mistletoe didn't swore the oath because it was harmless. While testing out the oaths nothing could hurt baldr. Except the arrow from loki (made from misletoe) wich killed him. They went to the god of death and asked for baldr to rise again. She said she would only allow it if every being in the universe would cry over baldr being dead. That being said every being cried and wept at the lost of the most beautiful god, except one troll. They begged the troll to cry but he did not, wich caused baldr to be gone forever. This troll turned out to be loki and when the gods found out, they tied him onto rocks in a cave. With a snake hanging above him with his large fangs out. And every so often a drop of venom would drip on Loki's head, causing agonizing pain. Where he would remain until ragnarok

There's a story by Beatrix Potter, "The tale of Squirrel Nutkin" were this squirrel is really rude and gets himself almost killed by a giant owl that guarded a Tree. Maybe she got inspiration for that story from Ratatoskr. The anime "Ah Megamisama" o "Oh My Goddess" uses the Norns name for the main 3 female characters "Beldandy, Url and Skuld", in that anime there's a lot of viking myths since they use Yggdrasil and other creatures for the series.

Many people seem to have gotten the idea that Yggdrasil is some kinda cosmic tree, but it's not. The Nine Realms are not seperate worlds or planets, like in Marvel, they are all physically part of the same landmass, and Yggdrasil is an actual tree that grow from the center, and can be found in Asgard. It's just so huge that it stretches across all nine realms. Fun fact about the Nine Realms, the world itself, according to Norse Myth, is techincally only divided up into three regions. Asgard is in the center of the world, with Midgard surrounding it, and Utgard (Outlands) surrounding Midgard, placing Midgard in the middle of the world. Those three regions are then further divided into several sub-regions. Asgard also consists of Vanaheim, where the Vanir lives, and Alfheim, where the elves live. Midgard is also host to Svartalfheim, also known as Nidavellir, which is located underground and is the home of the Dwarves. Utgard is where Jotunheim can be found and is the home of the Jotnar (not giants). But it is also where Muspelheim and Niflheim is located, making up the Southern and Northern regions of the world respectively. Helheim, is also found here, but similar to Svartalfheim, is deep below the ground, much deeper then Svartalfheim.

Yes it is interesting and the more you search you feel like you're getting closer to God and the truth. But, can't find the beginning and there is no end. In the Book of Daniel, Dan. 10:21 Dan. 12:13 Daniel was told what was written in the book of truth, and will rise up at the end times. Born Again, with the truth, he is the Holy Spirit, the third person to come. We'll have to wait to see. It is written.

A few takeaways: 1 Every video I can follow the story and understand every bit, but ask me to repeat it. 😂 2 A trash talking squirrel is what every story needs. 3 I think it’s so cool how belief systems all over the world have similarities. 4 Odin sacrificing himself for the sake of knowledge makes me respect him way more than I did before. 5 That segue was hilarious. 6 If I had to hang, stab, starve, and dehydrate myself for the sake of knowledge then call me Patrick cause I’m not the krusty krab.

I believe that Yggdrasil is a metaphor for the Laniakea supercluster, as it resembles a tree with the various realms(galaxies) hanging from it, including ours. This knowledge of the structures of the universe was within reach of the ancient people somehow, either through the use of magic mushrooms & DMT, or by some fantastical contact with a spacefaring civilization above us on the Kardashev scale.
