4:55:45 why to do so much, just assume the coordinates (at²,2at) and (am²,2am) apply the condition of centroid for both absiccsa and ordinate to get two equations in t and m i.e. t + m= 3 and tm= 2 You get t= 2 and m=1 or vice versa. Now, after getting the coordinates apply distance formula to get the correct answer. I found it much simpler...

Jo focal chord hota hai wo parabola ke axis ke perpendicular nhi hota but wo focus se paas karta hai par latus rectum wo double ordinate hai jo parabola ke axis ke perpendicular bhi hota hai aur focus se bhi paas krta hai

Its true that the value of a can't possibly be negative as it denotes length. But y² = -4ax aur x² = -4ay parabola ke bhi form hai, question mei iska hi example tha. It just means ki parabola ab leftwards (towards -ve x axis) ya downwards (towards -ve y axis) mei open hoga unlike jo standard form mei positive direction mei hota hai
