very acute and specific, clear and simplified. A wonderful spearke also. Great video. In six minutes I learned more than in a 50 min university lecture.

Can you please do lectures on asymmetrical vertical curves? I guess what i'm trying to figure out is what equations or formulas or methods to solve a problem when the curve is not symmetric about PVI. I got a question like that on the FE a few years ago.

will this equation work in unsymmetrical parabola?
@FindleyDaniel8 жыл бұрын
+Clinton Padilla No, this equation should just be used for symmetric parabolic curves.

is ax^2+bx+c the only equation to solve these problems?
@FindleyDaniel8 жыл бұрын
+Augustine Weber If it's a symmetric, parabolic curve, it's the only way I'm familiar with.

Why does a = (g2-g1)/2L and b= g1?
@FindleyDaniel8 жыл бұрын
+Ashley Chung The terms a and b are used to describe the shape of the parabola. In the term a, both grades and the length of the curve determine the shape of the "cup". In the term b, the grade of the entrance tangent influences the curve.

Thanks for your response! I also have one more question: why does the elevation for the starting point of the curve (or c) stay in feet but you have to change the horizontal length of the curve into stations?
@FindleyDaniel8 жыл бұрын
+Ashley Chung, Great question! Length are input in stations and grades are in percent (both in the 100s units) to cancel each other out.

All these variables PVC , PVI ,...etc when if you just took the equation of a parabola and just plugged in your variable points as well as taking derivative to find the tangent line then subtract there angles to get A. one can do all the math without all these variable names just the techniques of curve fitting and simple calculus. Seems like the engineers are just given the formulas for a , b ,c. One should know how to calculate them from scratch. These labeled named point are just points used to fit the curve to me makes it more complicated to have all the names when you just need the points but either way not to hard to get uses to
