@@joshua_J Its cheaper and easier to mass produce
@allenklingsporn69934 жыл бұрын
@@joshua_J Round canopies inflate much faster at lower velocities than a ram air parachute. We only usually drop from 1200 feet AGL in training, and less in combat, so we need a chute that can inflate quickly and carry a large load. I was 220 pounds with another 90 pounds of radios, armor, weapon, batteries, ammo, water, NVG's, aid bag, etc. A ram air chute large enough to hold that load would become fully inflated after I'd already been in free fall for 1204 feet, assuming that my dead body would plow into the mud a few feet lol.
@allenklingsporn69934 жыл бұрын
@@shadowkercaine9694 Not much to do with it at all. The MC6 is steerable and deploys much quicker than a ram air chute. Also, the new T-11 isn't round, and there have been far more produced than the MC6 (but not more than the T-10, yet)
@johnwig2854 жыл бұрын
@@allenklingsporn6993 shudnt it be the other way round? Shudnt ram air inflate better than round canopies which is why ull see ppl using ram air can land while "walking" whole those with round canopies have to go thru the standard protocol of landing it in a certain way? Ive seen SF and combat divers using ram air at low altitude jumping from a chinook, i believe cost couldve been the factor here and also the stigma among trainers that as long as ppl follow training, theres ntg wrong with round canopies

wayne4386 They were jumping from around 2500 feet and had plenty of altitude to deploy a reserve. Over land, you need about 750', which is 250' to decide to pull reserve and 500 to slow enough that you aren't seriously injured. Over water, you can hit at 40fps with water wings not deployed and come out okay.
@lwstruyk6 жыл бұрын
Yep...you know what your talking about. I did three static line jumps out of a small plane about 30 years ago when a buddy and me thought we would give parachuting a try. No tandem stuff back then. Yes we jumped at 2500 and we did have reserves. I think only base jumpers jump without a reserve. Hay seed operation and old plane. Third jump was with a army chute. Didn't have full canopy for a bit and that sucked but it came out ok. Thanks for your service.

The dude's dreaming pulling on both toggles at once on a cheapo round, what does he think is going to happen? Anyway, for water landings I was trained to unclip one side of the reserve, undo the chest strap or belly band and pop the leg strap buckles on entry in order to separate from harness and canopy to avoid being dragged or covered by the canopy. Sport jumping of course. An interesting approach to lie on one's back and wait to be picked up.
