Great channel, great content. Here is a bit of info that hopefully helps: NHRA mandates parachutes on all competition vehicles running 150 MPH or faster in the timing speed trap without regard to quarter-mile or eighth-mile or 1000 feet. Dual Parachutes are required if running 200 MPH or faster without regard to timing distance. This is iterated in Section 20 (General Regulations) 4:8 and referenced in each specific Class Requirements and Specifications under "PARACHUTE". Class Requirements and Specifications supersede Section 20 General Regulations. This was clarified and confirmed through NHRA Div4 tech support. Certain NHRA class requirements state: "No more than 3.5 inches of any portion of the parachute pack can be located under the rear of the spoiler. Measured from the parachute pack backing plate to the rear tip of the spoiler. Pneumatic parachute must use minimum 3/8-inch O.D. line; cannot use separate air supply from other pneumatic functions. Parachutes must be assisted by a launcher system - either air or spring. A pilot spring does not constitute a launcher but is acceptable as a secondary launch unit." This is to get the chute launched into the air stream and ensure repeatable rapid proper chute deployment. IHRA is class-specific and states "PARACHUTE: Mandatory on entries at 150 mph 1/4 or 125 mph 1/8." "Cars running 200 mph in the 1/4 mile must have two parachutes with one release handle." on classes that are fast enough to require a chute. Interesting note according to Stroud: Drag Chutes/Parachutes are not SFI tagged or rated and do not have a certification expiration date. "www.stroudsafety.com/recertification" Thanks for all you do and share. Best wishes to you, your family and friends. Don't worry, be happy and healthy.

Why not have a expiration date and re-certification process say every 5 ish years?? My safety harness ( and other parts that have sfi # have the same thing and I understand why on most of it because someone got hurt or killed or close enough ) ( so far I’ve never needed them for a crash or so far haven’t gotten to race/test in tune HPDE it yet in 8 years ish 😔 as I’m still getting ready but I have gotten to street driving ) have that and I’m not as hard on it as a well used parachute would be. I was told that safety fabrics can deteriorate just from sitting after 3-15 years and it’s faster if there damp or dirty like a parachute that gets drag on the ground or fast food spills onto seat belts
@richardprice59784 жыл бұрын
I thought 🤔 that I read a Internet rule book that the official Dragstrip organising bodies put out circa 2013~ covered parachutes and other safety equipment requirements and I remembered them being mandatory for retesting/getting a new one every so often. I just forgot at what speed it’s needed and or they have probably updated the rule book by now. last time I readed it my car doesn’t pass for sub-10’s I the 1/4 Mile drag as I have a full interior and no to little jungle Jim inside because I use the back seats and it miss up the hard top/convertible looks plus it’s harder for 💃🏼 To not show off things when getting in and out of the car. Power wise it’s sub-13’s aiming for sub-1500 hp ( drive line limited aka TR6070 ) but more than 650 hp at the tires. If I can figure out a way of smoky Eunic my way into having a bolt in mini top fuel rail cage only around the drivers seat/take out the power D&D seat for the weekend and not a full cage or roll bar I’d be game

A complete video about how to fold and re pack the parachute after it was used and deployed would be a great dedicated video John @turboJohn
@BlytheLifeRacing4 жыл бұрын
I have noticed if I am not on the throttle when the parachute is deployed it will snatch the rear of the car aggressively, if it is not centered behind the car it will jerk the back of the car in what ever direction the parachute is favoring. I now stay on the throttle until I can feel the grab of the parachute, 2300LB car probably effected more than a heavier car would be.

John...love this video and has me wanting to convert to air launcher after watching your video and realize I can maybe afford to do it...would you mind giving me the part number of your air cylinder you got from granger?? I tried stopping video to read the part number on cylinder but just not able to stop just right to read it..Also what stroke is it?? Any information be very helpful to me..On social security disability so can't afford to buy a chute launcher from companies that sells them..I'm a fabricator so if could just get cylinder number then rest I can build..
