People underestimate denial as a strong motivator. In this case, it means admitting to yourself that you were married to a psychopath, gave birth to his kids, and that you meant so little to this person that he was willing to kill you and your kids (the attempted gas explosion would have been when kids were in the house). That’s a lot of shame, humiliation, and terror to suddenly open the floodgates to. That is part of what is so insidious and grotesque about narcissism and domestic violence; it warps the partner into conspiring against their own self.

This is hardly a comparison, but my ex tried to take out a life insurance policy on me out of nowhere. Sadly, it is so common, if you said that they did, I would not have been surprised. I've seen tons that have, even when it makes zero sense...for example a stay at home partner having a huge amount taken out on them (without their knowledge) and later learning about the policies and signatures being forged, etc. Nothing about a full out NPD creature could possibly surprise many at this point.

Victoria was so manipulated, that he managed to persuade her to believe HIM!! She had just had a baby for christ sake!!!! What a monster he is!! I remember this case! The parachute club had a lot to do with the evidence - the way he acted and did things that day, taking the parachute into a toilet stall and then putting it into her locker, when the jump could not be done that day... Is a HUGE indicator that he was determined that she was the only one to use that parachute. Maybe she got a brain injury too!!! I’m a scuba diver. My former husband removed weight from my rig at depth. Being under weighted, I started to rise to the surface. An uncontrolled ascent can result in depth. Luckily, I kept my wits about me and slowed my ascent. I yelled at him when we surfaced and silently vowed never to get back in the water with him. I still don’t know whether removing weight from my rig was an irresponsible, bone headed mistake or a murder attempt. It’s really hard to deal with evidence that someone you loved and trusted with your life would do something so horrible.

I'm an FAA senior parachute rigger and this is horrifying. Parachute sabotage is extremely rare, probably a few cases per decade worldwide. In rare cases when a jumper commits suicide, they either fail to deploy either chute, or remove the rig in free fall - they never sabotage their own. Reserve parachutes are sealed with tamper evident thread and a lead seal which bears the rigger's 3 digit code. It is not possible to pack a reserve with two soft links missing; this is the same as slicing half of the suspension lines. Sabotaging both parachutes in 10 minutes would require extensive planning and research for a non skydiver. The tampering described here would be obvious during the gear check we are supposed to do before every jump. Such a blatant disregard for human life, and with no effort to avoid discovery, is beyond words.

It wasn't until I realised that for her sex dominated all her waking thoughts, when I came home early to find her having sex with both my next door neighbours. Rather than be ashamed she suggested I joined in, which foolishly I did. After that male or female, couples or same sex partners were turning up on our doorstep. I stuck my heels in at first but eventually succumbed to the sexual lottery that became our lives. My wife contracted Cancer in 2006 and this curtailed her activities. But right to the very end she was eager for some kind of sexual act. I still don't know to be proud of her adventurous spirit or revile her for her perversion of love.

Yes, great case study, thank you. From personal experience, when under the control of an abusive narcissist for some time, it's extremely difficult to come to terms with the reality that one must "betray" their narcissistic, extremely dangerous partner and expose the truth. The loss of sense of self and the fear of exposure and then not actually being believed, combined with the fact that the stronghold is so great that all personal decisions are second guessed, and the reality that this would forever change what has been the norm, despite it not being healthy or safe, all of this control makes leaving and exposing the narcissist so challenging. Necessary all the same, but the moving forward part is brutal.

Thanks for covering this. I remember when this case happened as it got a lot of coverage here in the UK. You filled in some missing gaps that weren't really explained at the time, rather just the facts were covered. Doing some further research Victoria now realises what this guy did. Must have been devastating for her. She is now rebuilding her life. These were her words taken from a newspaper interview freely available on the web "It took a lot for me to finally recognise that he must have done it. How could someone I'd married, loved and had children with have done something that despicable".

Not anything to do with this story, (although there was a parachute involved!) but quite funny! Around 20 years ago, a man went up in a glider as a birthday present and after a while, the glider was hit by an unusually powerful bolt of lightning and the wing exploded! He got out OK and said afterwards, "I've always wanted to go on a trip in a glider and do a parachute jump, but not necessarily on the same day!

I have 5 sons and 4 daughters. My worst nightmare is one of them getting a partner like this guy and not having the self-esteem to give them the boot. Cheated on her, tried to murder her, and she still defended him in court. I'm not trying to judge her because I know these things are complicated, but honestly, sometimes you just need to cut a person loose. I'm 30 and I've been with my wife for 16 years. Don't get me wrong it hasn't always been easy but we've never tried to kill eachother at least. I've read and watched about loads of cases like this and it just makes me despair. When worst comes to worst the children should come first. Also, life insurance seems to play a massive role in a lot of these spousal murder conspiracies. At this point I'm thinking you'd probably be better off without it for Christ Sakes. I dunno, maybe I'm just lucky but it makes me feel incredibly blessed. Even though I'm not religious or anything. I guess this is why I watch this content if I'm being honest. Of course the analysis from an expert like Doc Grande is interesting but say me and my wife have an argument I'll watch a video like this and think: "Christ, at least we aren't these people" That probably sounds incredibly selfish but it is what it is. I feel bad for the victims and their families, but it makes me appreciate my life and how lucky I am so much more. It's one of those weird things where I feel sad for the victim but it also makes me appreciate what I've got.

One of the few times the reasonable doubt is compelling; it's entirely plausible she was attempting to both end her own life and set him up over the misery he was causing. When she survived, she had a change of heart and tried to reverse course, but it ended up being too late. I DO believe he was actually guilty, because what she said about the parachutes made no sense compared to the analysis that was performed, but there's a lot to speculate on here.

@@cottontails9003 This is SO WONDERFUL to get to hear your story a bit on this Cotton Tails, so how old are you now, or how many years married? This reminds me just a bit of my own story back at that age, my husband and I dated for about a year and a half and were so VERY MUCH in love, soul mates I would say- I was one year older than him, and I ended up getting pregnant when I was 18. I was a Freshman in college, he was still a senior in High School. We both grew up STRICTLY Mormon, so this was of course a VERY big "sin", we were both taught from birth that the only REAL form of Marriage is getting married in the Mormon Temple for all Eternity (not just for "time" or "life" as Mormons believe "Regular" marriage is) and now we were not worthy to Marry in the Temple, as I was pregnant. At the time this broke my heart, I actually had been a very good girl for the most part, but we were SO VERY IN LOVE and had already committed to each other for life, I had a promise ring, we just weren't old enough to get married yet and we made a few mistakes being so in love and together every single day. Our religious leaders told us the only path forward was to give the child up for adoption to a "worthy" couple who was established and had been married in the Temple, but there was NO WAY we were giving our baby away! So we got married just in a Church in a "regular" ceremony- to most our friends and family it was a sad occasion due to the circumstances and felt more like a funeral than a wedding, but we were so in love we didn't much care, we were just so happy to be able to finally be married. And we beat all the "odds", for a long time- I had my oldest son at age 19, (he is now 18), and we had a daughter 3 years later and a surprise baby boy 7 years after that (he is now 7). For the first decade of our marriage, it was incredible, more in love Everyday, so in sync, blissful marriage is all I could call it. My Husband's mother and 3 of his sisters are Bi-Polar, and around age 28 or so and the 10 year mark of our marriage, my husband began to change a LOT. He had always had the tiniest bit of a temper, nothing out of control though, and then that changed. I stood by him through so much for as LONG as I possibly could, for another 7 years trying EVERYTHING. Eventually for the sake of me and my children, I had absolutely no choice but to separate from him about a year ago. We still aren't divorced, and I still hold out Eternal hope he can and will get the real lasting help he needs, and we can come back together. I still believe COMPLETELY in the sanctity of marriage and commitment and soul mates, even after going through several types of Hell the past few years- that is how strongly I DO believe in it and fighting for the one you love!!! It WARMS MY HEART to hear your story, and I hope and pray it stays this way for you ALWAYS, and only grows in love and happiness with each passing year! Never listen to those who say you were "too young" or the nay-sayers- you, Beautiful soul and beautiful woman, YOU know what your love and bond is between you and your wonderful husband!! Wishing ALL the love and success this life has to offer hon!! 🤗🥰💖💖 Also, REALLY hope I didn't "over share" with my personal story and thoughts, I just loved when I found this comment by you and like I said, It warmed my ❤️ so much, thanks for sharing!!

If Victoria states SHE tampered with the gas, wouldn’t that pose a risk to her children? In that case, why was she allowed to keep her children. Why wasn’t a child protective agency not asked to evaluate both parents fitness to parent their children? I wonder if she would have continued to cover up the truth of the events if custody of her children was at stake. The big fail isn’t so much that she stopped cooperating to the point that she was helping him, but that certain actions weren’t taken to review the children’s home environment and safety.

There’s always “a reason” for anything anyone does. A “reason” is why people decide to do anything they do, every move one chooses to make is because of the “reason” behind it. Example: “Why did you decide to get out of bed?” “The “reason” was, because I had to get ready for work.” If people didn’t have a “reason,” they wouldn’t be able to decide things, they’d be sitting there like a rock. Those girls killed the other because of a “reason,” such as jealousy, etc.. There’s no such thing as “no reason.”
