I was abused as an infant. Also smothered. My grandmother was trying to stop my crying. I was taken and adopted out after all the abuse. I think the boyfriend should be in prison, too. He got away with it. There's never a reason to get violent with a child.

I’m so sorry. Anyone who lays a hand on a child is the worst form of human garbage. I hope you have good support systems since, no matter our strength, years of therapy, resilience, etc, the pain of knowing the people who should have loved you the most treated you the worst has a way of creeping back up. One reason why child abuse is so insidious. You never deserved what happened to you. They are monsters. Live your best life because you DO deserve that. Take care of yourself. Again, my heart goes out to you.

1 thing Dr grande left out. Her brother went on to serve time for other sex crimes and eventually killed himself. I think in prison. I think the brother was the Resche's biological son so they did not want to believe he was a sexual predator in any way. Christina was just an adopted kid. But obviously the brother was a sexual predator if later on other women/girls also accused him of rape, molestation, etc

@@CherieODell-s9mthat's a bunch of bs. Multiple bruises at various stages of healing points to the fact that she was culpable because she either inflicted injuries to the child or at the very least, knew about them and therfore responsible. An abusive childhood does not give someone license to abuse children yet you're long winded comment is attempting to do just that. To suggest that she is not responsible for the safety of her own children because she may have merely allowed someone else to abuse the child rather than doing it herself is grotesque.

When they showed the mannequin of all the stickers of injuries on her child that was what I was thinking in my mind. Why didn't you do anything way before the incident? Were you complacent? @@tayba1316 I just watched a report on a news channel of a mother who took her own life just days after having her twins. Postpartum depression and psychosis is very real, and it is heartbreaking for all parties involved. This is why I think that more should be done to prevent such tragedies from occurring. It is devastating to learn that another mother didn't get the help that she desperately needed. The symptoms are often overlooked and women are often shamed into believing that they have no right to seek help when they have 'baby blues'.

If criminals that are about to be caught, would not have hope left once caught, a lot of them would kill and kill and kill, just to stay free. No extra murder would make a difference to their fate, unless they manage to escape, so extra murders only increase their chances of happiness. So it is dangerous for society to have laws that puts criminals in that position.

That and sometimes the state doesn't have a slam dunk case. A plea deal is a way to make sure a jury doesn't let them off easy. It also saves lots of public money. What makes me mad is when they have plenty of evidence but do a very lenient plea..

Spot on Dr Grande. Great analysis. In my opinion another key aspect of this case is the entertainment industry's increasing reliance on "legal crusading" as the hook in true crime documentaries. Everyone seems to be looking for the next bombshell "The Thin Blue Line" or "Paradise Lost" but more often than not their advocacy seems misplaced. Especially when filmmakers are making calculated decisions about what to omit and what to include to drive their narrative. This isn't the right case to be protesting a conviction.

I literally finished the documentary this morning and when I saw the videos of her taking that little girl to a man’s house that videotaped their adult activities and Amber being present at the time floored me. Amber appears in the videos, walking around, jumping on the bed. Up until that point I could sort of be on her side…albeit with the teensiest thread of sympathy. But seeing that and how she interacted with that child during the “adult activities” time I believe wholeheartedly she is a sociopath and a cold, calloused human being. She knew full well what was going on with that child. She was part of the abu*e and left that baby with the other person involved in the abu*e.

She is responsible , she left her child there m it can’t have Ben jsut one of them. If it was, she’s guilty of leaving her child in danger. And she rings someone else instead of 000. Pathetic and it sounds guilty. Whatever, a child is dead because of her actions. Poor, dear child 🙏🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

Universal healthcare may have prevented maybe not this death if there are criminal intentions to the child, but medical intervention via ambulance would reach so many children in the early hours of a medical emergency or sudden distressing changes in their motor, affect, etc. Even a fraction of abuse cases would still reach for medical care for a myriad of factors.

Regarding the little girl walking in on her adult filming, my understanding is that according to law, that constitutes (loosely speaking) 'underage porn', even though she (thankfully!) wasn't an active participant. Although that could be seen as something of an accident without malicious intent, said section of the video should have been immediately deleted, never mentioned and steps should have been taken to see that never happened again.

To be fair to a lot of public defenders, their caseloads are often double or triple what private attorneys have and their caseloads often are across the gamut whereas many private attorneys specialize in certain branches of law. This allows them to focus more on the cases they choose. It's like comparing an ER physician or general practitioner to a private oncologist or orthopedic surgeon.

Christina set a poor example to her man by battering her child in front of him. He may have felt it was OK to treat Amber harshly as well. Statistically the boyfriend/stepfather is often responsible for injuries to the woman's children.

I think she deserved prison time, but not life plus 20. Voluntary manslaughter in Georgia is supposed to be 20 years max. The child abuse would depend on what degree they charged her with, but the max would be another 20 years.

The Alford plea can be used for any charge. It just means that without admitting guilt, you agree that evidence of your guilt that the prosecution would present in court would convince the jury or court that you are guilty.

What about her abuse at a young age, and she wasn't believed? The woman who killed her friend's two month old was abused. I think there's something about the vulnerability of young children that might remind them of their own helpleness The adult video story is disgusting. Poor child At the very least, she didn't protect her child. That's her job.

Whose abuse, and of what nature was it? The cycle of abuse is not real, if that's what you're getting at. The adult video thing is... Odd. Amber's hardly going to realise what's going on, so if she hadn't been beaten for walking in the event wouldn't have left an imprint on her life.

Thank you for explaining that legally it doesn’t matter who struck the fatal blow when each adult in the home appeared to be responsible for child abuse. That documentary was one of the worst I’ve seen in terms of objectivity - to the extent that it could hardly be called a documentary. “Buyer’s remorse” is a great way to describe the plea deal that Christina agreed to. I believe that Christina’s attorney kept her from getting the death penalty and Christina was fully aware of her sentence. You don’t get to change legal strategies because your co-defendant received a lesser penalty following a trial. Do I think David was most likely responsible for the fatal injury? Yes. Do I think Christina would have been found guilty had there been a hearing? Yes. Clearly she and her attorney believed the same, that’s what an Alford Plea is for. I agree with the documentary in that mothers are held to a much higher standard than others when it comes to crimes committed against their own children, but that doesn’t make Christina not guilty nor does it matter when she conceded that the evidence against her would result in a conviction. I do think she should be granted parole at some point, but the fact that she is even eligible for parole is indicative of a not so bad deal when she was facing the death penalty. JMO.

Yes, the evidence points to Christina having responsibility in the situation. I do think hers and David's sentences should have been reversed. Christina should have done 20 years for "cruelty to a child." David should still be in prison.

@@jenti9346 Yes, definitely hard to say. To me, they had a good case for voluntary manslaughter and child abuse being the charges, which would be 30-40 years. Life plus 20 seems excessive with no evidence of premeditation.

If you don’t admit your guilt, process your actions and work to change, you don’t get parole. She hasn’t demonstrated any progress; she shouldn’t be paroled. She could still have had children when she was first up for parole. Luckily she’s now 54 so kids are unlikely but, she shouldn’t be with anyone who has grandchildren, either.

Usually to avoid a death sentence, and avoid a trial. This means the victims families are spared the pain of further court proceedings. Also, if you accept a plea deal you can't appeal. Every single criminal defendant tries the ineffectiveness of counsel angle. very few succeed.

Definitely. She had to know there was abuse taking place. But honestly she was probably either afraid or was in disbelief. She was in two other abusive marriages. That was what even caused her to go to Ohio to escape. She probably didn't want to believe she got herself into the same situation for a third time. And because of her in action she helped Amber's murder get away

Not bringing the child to a hospital/doctor was their way to cover up the abuse. This kind of thing happens all the time in child abuse cases. Usually the normal response is to take your child straight away to the hospital- but abusers don't want to do this because they know that the truth will be revealed and doctors will get law enforcement involved.
@KatieBellino

@@TiffWaffles Yes, I think the whole behavior surrounding getting to the hospital was suspicious. What normal person doesn't call 9-1-1 the minute they can't wake a child? I'm not calling my girlfriend's friend and then waiting for my girlfriend to arrive home. I'm not asking my boyfriend to pull over the car at a payphone, so I can call my friend and ask if we should go to the hospital because I'm worried about social services. They knew the little girl was obviously battered. If David had immediately called 9-1-1, I even think Amber might have lived. As it was, they briefly got back a pulse.
