Lets head over to the farm and pull all the baby parrots from the nest so we can start handfeeding and socialising them

So glad to see a new upload!! Glad everything is going well! Are you tracking which chicks are born to which couples? And the hatch dates?? I’ve tried to do that with my ringneck doves and it has gone pretty well. Just need to band them now for ID.

I’ve heard that fully hand rearing parrots can contribute to behavioral issues and feather plucking later in life (the alternative method is letting parents raise them for a few weeks but interacting and handling them daily). What are your thoughts on that?
@paradiseaviary
@paradiseaviary Жыл бұрын
Ill be honest im not sure i know there are moultiple factors that can lead to feather plucking like stress, enviroment etc etc but not sure how much the age at which they are pulled affects them. Personally i like to pull once they reach 2-3 weeks old by then eyes are open they are hardier and easier to feed. But sometimes ill end up with chicks that are 1week old or so because the chicks hatch a few days apart. One of the nest i pulled had a tiny 1 week old

Felicidades.

Hi! quick question about Finches. What to do when a vet is refusing to do a surgery on a female finch? she has a lump filled with fluid. It's getting bigger .I'm giving her vitamins and calcium but can I drain the fluid ? to at least help her move better? Ofc with sterilized tools. Thank you!
@paradiseaviary
@paradiseaviary Жыл бұрын
Im so sorry you and your bird are having to go through this 😔. I would personaly follow any advice the vet gives you, they know best. Most vets dont like to perform surgery on finches thwy are to small and fragile many things can go wrong. Try to get a second opinion from another vet. As far as you doing it your self I wouldnt recoment it the bird will stress out to much and will probably die from shock, pain, stress or infection. At the same time if something is not done to help it fast it can also suffer from pain and eventually die ☹️. I wish you guys the best of luck really hope you can figure something out.

@@paradiseaviary thank you for reply.I've decided to give meds for now.lump is getting bigger and bigger.I can't stop it but if is gets to the point when shr can not move I 'll drain it out.There are not many vets in my area that treat birds(mainly dogs and cats).
