Well it's like a lecture in biology that states that for a bacteria the best way to thrive is to gradually dissolve the cellular wall and let osmosis have its way. Of course if any bacteria actually does it then... well... It bloats from incoming water and all the nutrients inside are dissipated. Eventually it will be ripped apart by internal pressure. Funny that there are actually a quasi-living organisms that routinely "persuade" bacteria to do just that. They are called viruses. Intra-cellular parasites that want to spread and infect more cells.

Russian census in late 2000's puts them at 30 000, and even the highest estimates from other sources give a 400 000 - 500 000 of Chinese nationals living in all of the Russian federation in total (that's less than his own fantasy arrivals in one year!) @Azmol Hossain If you really wish to know the truth then there are more Muslims in India than in Pakistan. For that matter, Indonesia is the only country which has more Muslims than India in the world. Indian Muslims are far more secular than you think and India is there homeland for centuries and are also well-off than many Muslims in the world. Kashmir agreed. Tamilnadu really? Assam and Tripura the fight for tribal supremacy not for a separte country.

What he said about 'change' being the only constant feature is true. After (almost) a decade after he delivered this speech of his, the world is significantly different, though not with any more new borders, but that as a potential factor. He hasn't covered much on trade, but now 'trade' has become a new force & an alternate to war - its war by other means. Gone are the days when people used to think 'Trade' as all peaceful or a vehicle for peace. Trade can trigger wars.

1. You did not seem to understand the difference between Russian and Middle East's current problems that he stated. 2. He didn't say Chinest Govt. will control and specifically pointed out that it is no longer about conquering countries rather buying/leasing them. However, it would seem that while Russians leaving the area and Chinese moving in would inevitably cause a border change (war most likely)! 3. Chinatowns in Vancouver, SF and NYC do not border China!

This is what Evgeny Morozov had to say about Parag Khanna in one of his book reviews published by The New Republic: All of these insights are expressed in linguistic constructions of such absurdity and superficiality (“a world of ever-shifting (d)alliances,” “peer-to-peer micromanufacturing marketplace”) that Niall Ferguson’s “Chimerica” looks elegant and illuminating by comparison. Khanna must be a gifted schmoozer, too: the acknowledgments sections of his books are primary documents of contemporary name-dropping. Khanna’s contempt for democracy and human rights aside, he is simply an intellectual impostor, emitting such lethal doses of banalities, inanities, and generalizations that his books ought to carry advisory notices. Khanna does not really care about the details of policy. He is a manufacturer of abstract, meaningless slogans. He is, indeed, the most talented bullshit artist of his generation. newrepublic.com/article/105703/the-naked-and-the-ted-khanna

It is interesting to listen to this 10 years later, seeing what Dr. Khanna got right and what he got wrong. I don't understand why he used such bad maps in his presentation. Maybe he thinks using badly drawn maps means he doesn't have to talk about disputed borders which are not the focus of his talk. As for the content, it is interesting to note globalisation has in fact begun to reverse in the West, but is still accelerating in Asia. The peaceful European Union turns out to be the part that is in political crisis. He got the 'Silk Roads' correct as China is heavily focused on building the infrastructure that Dr. Khanna proposes doing. But by an large, territorial changes have not happened. 'Kurdistan' hasn't become independent. None of Iraq, Afghanistan or Pakistan got broken up. Greenland (whose population is 55,000 not 600,000) isn't actually independent. South Sudan did gain its independence, but the rest of Sudan is still one country. None of the other African countries (no matter how artificially create) are facing territorial crises. Maybe we should check back again in another 10 years to see what else he got right/wrong.
@MrPoornakumar5 жыл бұрын
eip81 ! Kurds are spread over not only in Iraq's north, but in Turkey, Syria, & a sliver in Iran too. If Kurdistan has to go independent, it isn't just Kurdistan in Iraq alone. The issue is pregnant of many oppositions & possibilities. However he did mention about Kurds in Iraq alone (I don't expect him to be unaware of Kurds in other countries too) & their perceived autonomy from the Iraq'a Central government, bestowed by 'Oil'.Some tribes are clearly un-Islamic calling back to pre-Islamic days. How can they be accommodated in any future scheme? Or will they be fully suppressed?

A city is, by definition, a state organization. That's like saying "how could you have the US without having a government?" You couldn't, because the thing that is the US is defined by the state that arbitrarily claims control over it. Assuming you mean an anarchic community, it would be governed by the interactions of the people within it. There would be no difference in governing services, such as courts, with the exception that there is no monopoly on those services.
