I agree with all of the stuff you say but I've never heard you need to get two budgies and the reason you haven't had any problems with mirrors is because there's friends in there and if you seem like on the mirror and you clean it just know it's throw up because they're trying to regurgitate too because they think it's their mate
@virginiacurtis44315 ай бұрын
Those are breeding behaviors and mirrors make them more hormonal and leads to behavior issues.

Happy Tails , how do you not understand this? Simply Olivia is correct and you are just rude. Parakeet refers to any one of a large number of small to medium sized parrots that generally have long tail feathers. Budgie is short for Budgerigar, which is a specific small parrot.

I have a Budgie story that I wouldn't believe if I didnt experience it myself! I have bird feeders in my yard that fall onto my sidewalk. I like to drink my coffee in the morning and watch the birds eat and bath. About a month ago I noticed a bright green bird, with a bright yellow head, eating along with the sparrows. I was shocked when I realized it was a parakeet. He comes everyday...but I cant figure out how to catch him. Well this morning to my amazement, I looked out and along with all my other birds, including my green parakeet, there was a bright yellow parakeet!!! Who could even imagine this!!! I noticed she wasnt flying as quickly as the others. So I went outside...where I have a dwarf plum tree...and walla...I was able to get her!! I have watched a trillion videos on the care and welfare of parakeets ever since! We put her in a really small cage for catching mice while my son went to Petsmart to buy me a $90.00 cage...and a few accessories. Now I am a budgie mom, of a beautiful budgie named Tweety! If I can catch the green one, I am going to name him either Freebird...or Jack Sparrow, being that he thinks he is a sparrow now...ha! Thank you for listening to my story... And thank you for your videos...they have been a life saver for me...and for Tweety! 🌷

No, I don't include pellets in any of my parrots diet. Please watch the diet video in the icard.
@natalier40537 жыл бұрын
Yes! Only a small percent of their diet should be seeds. Seeds are like junk food, they aren't nutritious and are fatty. I would like to add that even with a pelleted diet it shouldn't make up more than their other foods like fruits, veggies, and grains. Pellets are more of a staple supplement than that being the only food you have to feed them.

@zombiedoll36977 жыл бұрын
Alyssa Dunn, Yes. Budgies need a wider cage rather than a tall one. They are lateral flyers. The Vision cages look great but I've read comments about them being not very sturdy, which should be fine as long as you know about it. Just be careful when cleaning or moving the cage.

Budgies prefer a wide cage rather than a tall one. The bottom of the cage will be wasted space. It seems most manufacturers ignore this as wider cages are harder to find. Look at the Vision cages and see if you can find one locally.

@zahrasultanzadeh91247 жыл бұрын
Give her some time to get used to her new home and then chop the vegetables very small and put it in her food bowl without seeds. Make sure to keep an eye on her because budgies can refuse to eat and starve and die. If she really did not eat it give her back her seeds. If she's tame you can give it to her in your hand or eat a piece in front of her.

If I were to get 2 parakeets from different places could one be alone for around 3 days? I would get it during a time when I'm home a lot like a school break (I don't have summer break but I have some smaller ones around the year) I've seen many that seem fine as just one so I don't personally think it would be a problem for just a few days. I can only find one shelter within 100 miles with a parakeet in it and they only have one too. The other would probably be from a breeder

Hello I have two parakeets. About 6 weeks ago, I got a sand perch. My parakeet don't really stand on it but they eat it. Is this bad for them?
@zahrasultanzadeh91247 жыл бұрын
Sundeep Kaur sand perches are very bad for parrots. Sand perches have grit in them which is not suitable for parrots. Also sand perches can cause cuts and sores in the feet and can get infected and it causes bumble foot and little grains of sand get stuck in their feet. Please remove all the sand perches. The better alternative to sand perches are calcium perches and concrete/pedi-perches.

I love the idea of having a large parrot, but I only have experience with canaries and parakeets and some familiarity with cockatiels, and I feel that a cockatiel is the largest bird I would feel confident about taking care of. But, considering how often parakeets end up in bird rescues and shelters it's probably best (once I finally live in a place that accepts pets) to stick with parakeets anyways. I also think that rescuing pigeons would be cool, and I know that there are always pigeons in need of homes, and I hear pigeons are a great bird for beginners so it should be easy for me to do it if I do my proper research. Any thoughts?

Hi! How old do you think a kid should be to get parakeets? I'm very responsible and LOVE animals!
@NinaFreya7 жыл бұрын
I'd say that its most important that you know the care level that parakeet require. Parakeets need lots of play time on a daily basis and need toys, perches, and pellet food bought for them every month or so. Parakeets live 10+ years so you need to make sure you are willing to take care of it for as long as it lives. Parakeets are very fragile creatures and I would definitely not recommend a parakeet for anyone under 10 years old. I got my first parakeets when I was 10 years old but I was very dedicated and had an allowance to buy all the things they needed. Make sure you do a ton of research so you can take care of your parakeet and keep it happy and healthy! Also check your local shelter and see if there are any rescue birds to be adopted before you buy one from a store. Taming your bird can take a while (it took me two months) but your bird will love you if you do it correctly! Hope this helps!

Ooh these are so cool! I also was happy when not hearing any animal products in their main Food. Are they loud at night? If yes is there a way to stop it? What's a general starter price? You only mentioned Omni/carnivores with pets, do you think a parakeet could be in the same room for out of cage time as a rabbit? The rabbit has a pen that I could put her in for half an hour (in another video it said minimum playtime was 15min) and then if the parakeet is in my room i would also be able to have it out a little during night. How many toys would you say is the minimum for a cage? And is there something you can use other then cuttlebone, I know for my snail using a little Kale and alfalfa hay works for calcium (people use cuttlebone for them) but birds are different. Thanks so much if you reply and for this video anyways. I really want a bird and parakeets seem to be a decent option. Apparently they aren't to loud either unlike all the birds Tyler Rugge owns 😂.

I was taught pelleted food is very nutritional for parakeets would you agree?
@HappyTailsAnimals7 жыл бұрын
+Katherine Garcia no I try to avoid pellets for most of my pets. Processed food is never better than real food. None of my parrots eat pellets, seeds are given as treats.

you can keep a parakeet alone as long as you spend a lot of time with it
@HappyTailsAnimals7 жыл бұрын
you can keep a parakeet alone if you are ok with animal abuse. That's the only real excuse.
@syd52847 жыл бұрын
Happy Tails it's not animal abuse to keep a parakeet alone, if you spend enough time with him/her then it should be fine to keep it alone

Do you understand what a social animal is? What experience do you have to be able to say that this is ok? Where did you study animal behavior? As a social animal have you lived in solitary confinement in order to have this opinion? There is a reason that solitary confinement is punishment in jail. Based on your comment you are proving that you do not understand animal behavior at all.
@syd52847 жыл бұрын
Happy Tails I'm aware it's a social animal but it doesn't have to be social with its own kind, it can be social with a human and it will be ok you just have to spend at LEAST an hour with him/her out of the cage a day and talk to him/her throughout the day
@plowboy197 жыл бұрын
depending on the specific animal it might be lonely by itself especially if you don't spend much time with it but most will be fine just with you as long as you spend at least 2 hours with it

My parents got me a budgie last year for my birthday it has been over a year and he has no play mate should I ask for a larger cage and another budgie because I may not be allowed?!🙁🙁🙁
@Faith-zv9xr7 жыл бұрын
Piggie Love there's no harm in asking! when it comes to asking to buy a bigger cage, don't say 'my cage is too small' but instead say 'i'd like him/her to have to more space'. Also, if you have a birthday coming up, buy a cage from your birthday money :) also, i looked on some other sites and they said you can keep a budgie alone, as long as you provide a lot of time with them (about 2 hours a day)

SuperMarioVids • Be nice! The commenter here is very obviously a kid still as they said "my parents bought me a parakeet". But they are here-watching this video and asking questions, trying to educate themselves on proper animal care so they are obviously NOT an idiot! Also **you're**

SuperMarioVids • depending on who you ask you could keep a budgie on their own

Thats ok. You should ask tho, Or consider getting a job. I had a job this summer and nowdays they pay you really well. My boss is shunning me now, but luckily I have enough money to get budgies. I am hoping to. Also try dropling hints.

I have 2 budgies and I had got 2 from a pet shop and 1 died after 2 weeks of owning so then I bought another 1 and it was hand tamed and fed and after 3 months they both eat from my hand since yesterday

I kinda gained my budgies’ trust a day after I got them. They were parent raised, and they are pretty cheap. Mine were a total of $25 USD with my 2 budgies, a cage and a bag of seeds. I removed the plastic perches and added natural wooden perches. They trust me enough to step up to my finger

@HappyTailsAnimals7 жыл бұрын
+Sage Gibson thank you! Song birds leave the nest to go find food for the babies. This is very normal. I hope you didnt disturb the nest. If you did contact your local wildlife rescue so that they can take them in. Next time leave them be, you only harm them by interfering.
