I was at the pet store one day getting food for my very picky dog, and I happened to walk past the budgies and there was this one blue one that was giving me this look. Idk I didn’t know anything about budgies at the time, but I knew I wanted one. So I walked outta that store with my little guy his name is Blue. He is so cute and so smart! He picked up words super quick and he was tamed very easily. I had him for about a year and I felt bad I felt like he needed a friend. So I got another bird I intended to get him a girlfriend but I ended up getting him a brother. His name is B.B.! I love my birds so much & I love watching your videos.

I had a female (I thought she was male when I adopted her). It took a couple of years for her to calm down. She bit soooo hard! And yes, she chewed. She’d fly to my bookshelf and chew on my books. But she ended up being such a lovely pet. Thank you for discouraging people from having birds just sitting in cages. Budgies need to be part of the family, and they need attention. And love. And kisses.

Budgies are my fave pets. My first parrot was a girl that my grandparents found on the street being attacked by wild birds (probably ran away from somebody's house), since that day i had 6. I got used to having them to the point when i don't have them around i feel sad. I always have cage opened so they rarely go inside (just for food). So far i found females being more friendly, but also what you mentioned they chew and bite a lot haha! I had two budgies that didn't like to chirp much and one of entire group that never gets quiet. XD He's such a chatterbox! Also one female that was singing in the dark. XD Every pet is having such a different personality so i always tell people to get to know their little friend and understand what they like.

I have 2 females and 2 male. I'm not sure if my theory is correct. However, i have found males to be more social and caring than the females( once found a mate)
@kingcrimson2345 жыл бұрын
@@kianh9563 I have 1 male and 1 female. My female is more social, but she was hand-raised. The male started opening up to humans once we got the female and he saw her hanging out on us all the time. I guess he figured that means we're safe, so now he's not scared of us, and enjoys sitting on hands and heads. Even though the female is a little more social, she's also not quite as loving. That's not to say she doesn't enjoy hanging out with us, she does but the male has a much gentler and sweeter personality. He's just a very friendly and loving bird. Our female isn't mean or anything, but the male is the kind of bird that will sit there on your hand, closing his eyes and cooing/purring while you talk to him. He just loves it. When I say she's more "social", I mean like she's more likely to come to a person and want to investigate things first. She's not afraid of anything. She also likes to give me "kisses" on the nose lol. Both of them love nothing more than preening my hair!

I see that too! When I see birds in those regular white cages, it’s fine. What I hate is when they have that cage, but they cram it full of stuff the bird doesn’t care about that just looks appealing. (I’m talking about a regular overexcited bird owner) I hate those small cages. I gave my African Ringneck a cage the size for a African Grey. :)

I’m so excited to watch them grow and to train them more!

Your budgies are so cute!! I'm gonna be moving out of home into my own apartment in a few months and I'm super excited to finally be able to get pets without having to convince my parents (I shall definitely be getting an apartment that allows pets). The first thing I'm going to do once I've settled into my apartment is go to the local SPCA and see if they have any budgies that need a home! :)
@djkoenig47165 жыл бұрын
Don't forget to ask the landlord or apartment complex manager if they allow pets, which kind, what sizes & how much the pet deposit is (it is always non-refundable & usually at least $500 & up depending on where u live). PLEASE, make 100% for sure you're a homebody type of person because it's so cruel to leave a pet at home, alone everyday for 8+ hours; especially a pack animal like a dog & super especially a parrot, which will often get so stressed from being alone that they will pluck some/all of their feathers out or even worse they'll often mutilate themselves. Most Parrot species are sensitive, emotional creatures, not as resilient as the domesticated dog/cats & can/do often die from stress, loneliness, boredom & less than ideal living conditions (too small cage, dirty cage & poor diet of birdseed). Vet bills for the Avian (bird)/ exotic pet Vet you'll need are MUCH higher than a regular small-animal (dog & cat) veterinarian!!!! Do your research & due diligence before-hand; you'll save your self from the guilt & heartbreak that happen to those who don't & the needless illness, suffering & sadness of your pet companion! Good luck!

I used to have 2 budgies many years ago. 1 male and 1 female. The male’s name was Prince and the female’s name was Princess. Even though I had them trained with me, they never felt the need to speak words. That was fine with me because they were so much fun. They loved playing tag with me. I used to run from their cage to my bedroom and they would chase me until they caught me. The male would rarely bite me, but the female just loved to bite so I had to learn to hide the tip of my fingers because that’s where she would bite me. Great memories!😂

I just gave my female away to a pet shop that takes birds. She did okay for our second bird, a male. But then she started acting like she hated him and I feared for his safety. She bit me last week when I tried to help her because she got caught on a string with stuff to bite on to keep from chewing the perch. You can tell my male budgie is happier already that she is gone. It was a hard decision but I had to get rid of her for his safety. She was always feisty and kind of mean. The male was sweet from the beginning but he would act skiddish because of the way she acted. The next day after she was gone, he let us pet him and was really sweet. So we’re happy. Females are just more reactive and emotionally charged. It makes sense. Males court females constantly and the female chases them away if she's not breeding so I guess we get similar treatment from both.

So…much…info! Thanks! ❤ It’s a big topic, so I still have a few basic budgie questions… Cage sanitation? We had finches decades ago and just had to change out paper on the cage floor weekly. Home sanitation? How “messy” would it get if you let two budgies out in your living room for a few hours each day? What happens in your “bird room?” How much attention does a solo budgie need to stay happy? If the home is empty from 8am to 6pm weekdays, would that be detrimental? Are they carefree enough to allow the owners leave town for the weekend withal food and water stockpile, or would one need to arrange outside care?

I bought a bourke parakeet from a pet store that only sells exotic birds, and they didn't know how old my parakeet is. And when I arrived I specifically asked for a male parakeet, and it was the last one, but I'm not sure if it's a male anymore, and she took it and turned it like a pancake in her hand to show how docile he is , and was wings clipped. And at home, he doesn't want to come out of his cage, and he's scared of me. I am so sad but i will take the time to bond with him or she.

Growing up we had a much older family member (I still to this day don't know how she's part of the family) who always had budgies. During my childhood, she'd babysit me quite often when school was out at her house. She always had at least 3 large cages full of budgies for years. Her home was always filled with chirping and bird songs. She loved those birds so much. Everyone that knew her also knew about her birds and how much she loved them. Whenever one of them died, it would be a big deal. These birds remind me of her and being a child. Being an adult now and seeing these birds brings back nostalgia, and I really want to get one. Problem is, I have a cat that's a great little huntress, and I'm scared to get one because of her 😅

Hello! I have 3 budgies (2 males 1 female). They are totally wild & will bite if held. It really dosen't hurt much or draw blood especially compared to almost any other breed of parrot. Mine don't step-up either. I can have fun with them & play tickle only when I catch a individual & play with me & the budgie zipped inside a small, mosquito-net tent from which the budgie can't escape. I like their natural chatter. I also have 2 male caiques; they're hand-tamed & will step-up. They are usually quiet around me but can get really loud periodically when it's time to eat, especially in the morning when we wake-up or if I leave the room that they're in if I don't take them with me (but I'm with them 75%+ of the time). I often have the caiques uncaged unless I'm sleepy; not feeling well, or having to focus on something else (like bills & bookeeping) & I can't watch them closely enough. They love to play around/on me & must be supervised constantly when out of the cage because they will not only chew their toys but especially any of my things & electrical cords etc... They will destroy anything they find interesting if they can get their beaks on it. They can bite hard when they are cranky, restrained &/or fearful! :●}

My first budgie I saw a week before and I was watching the parakeets and they had a white one and a really blue almost purple I saved up all my money in a week and went back to buy one of them. The white one was gone so I got the blue and I named him Merlin. Then 5 months later I got one that is green. I named him Radagast from the hobbit (the wizard that takes care of animals) to keep the wizard theme.

I have both boys and girls. I bred a sweet non biting boy to the same disposition girl and all babies are sweet and lovable. They all do fine together but are noisy.

I breed Budgies, Rosa Bourkes and scarlet chested parrots. I have about 50 or so Budgies, 25 scarlets and about 35 Bourkes. All of these breeds are easy to look after and easy to breed. All my birds are in large outdoor aviaries with breeding pairs in smaller cages. All are friendly birds also, and make great pets.

Great info always! I look forward to seeing your new budgie. At 8 minutes into your video, there are two yellow colored birds but neither of them are lutinos. You mentioned that you have an all-make flock. I was wondering what mutation coloring are these two yellow birds? I see one has a recessive gene causing the cere to stay pink while the other yellow bird on the right has a blue cere.
@Loveofpets6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The yellow Budgie with the blue cere is a Double Spangle. Sometimes I can see a slight suffusion on his body of the color green. He has dark eyes and is very handsome.
@teardropface6 жыл бұрын
Is the yellow budgie with pink cere a recessive pied? Yes, they both are very handsome. The yellow coloring at a glimpse with these two may look the same but genetically they are so different with the cere coloring and iris around the eyes.

Yes, he is a recessive pied. Thanks for watching! Hope your Budgies are doing well, I will come to your channel to see your latest video soon.

Hi, I have a flock of 8 and I have 4 males and 5 female. They mostly get along. Some squabbles but nothing too harsh. Thank you, I’m commenting on November 4, 2024. I hope you are doing well and praying Bubbles has been found. In Christ, Bitsy

4:48 For those of you that own an African Ringneck or a Indian Ringneck, around 12-18 months old, the male birds get a black ring around their neck. Females *do not* get this ring.

I have six budgies! I have three females and three males. I love them so much! All are different colors. Yellow/green, violet, albino, white speckled, grey/turquoise, turquoise/yellow. My females chew on EVERYTHING. They love cuttlebone and coconuts. They are very sweet but bicker a lot between themselves. My males are more tame and friendly and twitter a lot. The females squawk at each other when annoyed but they seem more silently active during the day while the males like to sit and sing. I have two flight cages side by side which made one big long cage. I am so happy I got multiple budgies so they could be friends during their lifetime and not get lonely. I feed them fresh lettuce and fruits everyday as well as a seed mix with pellets and dried greens.

We had two females and we were really lucky that they didn't bite. One would gently nibble if you ever gave her your finger. The other one could bite a gentle if you did something she didn't want (or tried to do something to her cage late at night). They both loved to chew and burrow though.
