I have 5 parakeets, yes 5! We started with 2 little babies . Then like 2 weeks after getting them I was at the pet store getting them some goodies and one of the older ones at the store was whistling at me, and kissing me on my mask (this was around pandemic times) so I brought him home. Then about 6 months later my sons teacher asked if we could take her 2 birbs because she couldn’t care for them like they needed, so we adopted the 2 of them. The original 3 live in one bird mansion together and then the 2 adoptees are already bonded so we kept them separate in their original cage so there was no territorial fights. I work from home 2 days out of the week and they are in my work space and they are always squabbling especially in the morning when it’s snack time. But they scream at each other all day and fight (playfully) except our one young male likes to push my old guy off a perch, and he falls! It’s so mean. But he is ok. My point is they are so noisy! We are almost 3 years in with our feathered friends and they don’t get any quieter!! Lol. We just wanted 2 and end up with 5😂 I love them what can I say❤

How did you know what genre Pixel & Kiwi were, respectively when you first got them?...

We got Kiwi in 2014 and didn’t know 100%. It became obvious by his cere color a few months later he was male. When we got Pixel in 2017 we sent a feather for DNA sexing before we took him home. We specifically wanted to avoid a breeding pair.

My parakeets fight over their food all the time. I have Bluey, and Pickles and Pickles will sit in the food so Bluey can't eat until I walk over 😂
