It's all about the placement of your tandem. The front of your tractor, doesn't really matter much, if it's to the left, center, or to the right of the hole, unless you don't have alot of room in front, then it matters.

A BIG secret, when backing up, hold a little left 3 seconds then a lil right 3 seconds. Stop ✋️ when your goofed about to touch that driver side cone, pull up a little, hold the left backing up to clear that same cone and come in smooth with the right, once the trailer in, pull out the box a little and hold all the way left to bring the truck in and work from there.😅 Works everytime.

I have to disagree with the first left turn, you shouldn't crank it all the way left because you'll hit the truck on the passenger side when you're at the 45. For cones that works, for real life thats a fail. 1 turn left is all you need and go until you see the middle of your landing gear, then continue on as the video shows. Another key setup note that isn't mentioned is that you should line the driver side trailer with about 70% of the parking width or in this case 2.25 -2.5 cones.
@wisecdl9566 ай бұрын
That's some great feedback. I agree with you about the truck in front of the parking spot being hit by the cab at a 45 degree in a real world scenario. This video is strictly for tips on how to pass the parallel parking maneuver for the CDL SKILLS exam. In all reality, the chances of parallel parking with only* 15 additional feet longer than your vehicle are very slim. More so, the chances of parallel parking ever in your career are slim. This is the reason this particular maneuver has been removed from the new 'modernized' skills exam that certain states have already implemented. In summary, parallel parking isn't a thing in real life, even less with 15 additional feet only, even less as a beginner without a trainer to guide you through the real life scenario. Thank you for your feedback Chaw! 👋

I have a shorter trailer, but the cab is definitely the same. Does the 45° angle still work? Because I get my trailer in, but I'm literally. Just goin with the flow and somewhat guessing, but I'm still gonna go take my d. MV test and I would like to have an actual. Mathematical way of doing it lol I ask because we both know that shorter trailers. Fishtale, really fast, but I'm guessing that this 45° angle still works. Regardless, it's just more touchy on the steering. I'm guessing. whenever you're going back. a simple answer would be awesome. Thank you so much!!
@wisecdl9565 ай бұрын
Yes, everything you stated is correct. The angles will work the same however you'll have to keep an eye out because, yes a shorter trailer will reach these angles faster. So my best recommendation is to take it as slow as possible to each angle as to not overshoot each reference point if that makes sense.
@monstermind42865 ай бұрын
@wisecdl956 Yes, I understand you one hundred percent I will do that next time At the yard and I will take it slow because of the shorter trailer. And that would be great, because guessing and going with the flow is good. And i'm sure a lot of people do that when they're already got it Down second nature, but for me. I guess, and i'm doing it good. But having a good mathematical angle form that never fails you is best. Of course. Well, i'm trying to go and pass the test. Thank you so much. I really appreciate you

Hey James 👋. There isn't one official way to complete this maneuver. As long as your vehicle ends up inside the parking spot without touching any of the cones/ barriers, it's a pass. Some might start closer to the cone, some further. This is just an example of the way we perform this particular maneuver. Hope this helps 🙏
@jameschang28737 ай бұрын
Thanks, this makes more sense then the others. Also I haven't been behind the wheel so it probably more difficult! @@wisecdl956

So it that easy left right then straight back. Back wheels behind the line then hard right push your ass end left. Then hard left you done
@michaelwilde5454 ай бұрын
This is helpful, but at 1:28 the front of the tractor swings over the double white line, if you are parking in between other trucks, this means that your cab would have hit a parked truck. At the yard I drive out of, I struggle a bit because I need to blind side parallel park behind another truck and I have limited space on my left. Any one got tips for that?
@wisecdl9564 ай бұрын
That is correct. For your particular circumstance, you can repeat most of the turns however, you'll have to adjust your angles. I.e. you will start further past your parking spot, then instead of turning left for a 45 degree angle, you'll aim for a more shallow angle. I.e. 15 degree, 20 degree. The more shallow the angle, the further ahead you'll have to pull forward past the parking spot. Mind you, the last full right has to mirror the same angle as the first full left in order to work with this method. So if your first left turn is at 20 degrees, then your last right turn should also be at 20 degrees. Hope this helps. Give me a shout at 956-890-5669 to discuss it further in depth. Good luck. 🙏

Key questions so I would not be looking for no cones just follow the wheels
@wisecdl956Ай бұрын
@kato-coupe1314 with this particular method, you only need to look for the first cone. First step. The rest, you'll follow the angles and trailer tires. There is not one sole way to complete this maneuver. This is an example of the way we complete this maneuver but there are many other ways to complete this. Wish you the best!

@wisecdl9563 ай бұрын
@HeatherMckayla726 it's very possible they have a different approach that works for them at a 60degree angle. There is no one set way to perform this maneuver. This is just an example of how we do ours. Wishing your husband the best! Tell him not to give up! 💪

@wisecdl9565 ай бұрын
Hey Bernie, there are many different ways to complete this maneuver so it is very possible with a different approach to accomplish the same goal with only one turn left as you are being told. There are many factors that play a part in what works. For example, day cab vs sleeper, 28ft trailer vs 53ft, turn radius of the tractor, how many axles the tractor has etc. I hope this helps clarify the conflicting methods. Lmk if you have any questions.

Hey premedina667 👋. I can see why you would think that due to the camera angle but I can assure you, our student did not encroach on any one of the sides of the parking space. Compare the final placement of the combination vehicle. The vehicle ended closer to the street side than the curb side, with zero encroachment. 🙌 I'd like to note, this particular student practicing his parallel parking maneuver went on to pass his SKILLS exam on the first attempt. 💯 God bless 🙏
