I just got diagnosed with Peripheral Neuropathy and own a tricked out 2001 GSXR 1000. I suffered this from a fall from heat exhaustion as I collapsed and lost consciousness for 6 hours or so.. It just happened two days ago and I am not yet seen a neurologist yet to determine the severity of it. I have little to no feeling in my left leg from the knee down and the right leg is a bit better so I cant walk but Im close and trying. I live to ride and woke up last night in tears just thinking about not ever being able to ride again and do simple things like playing with my children. There is no know cure for this so its pretty much untreatable as far as the doctor I saw told me. A face book friend of mine posted your link to watch. As of right now, my right leg is stronger than the other but I cant more my left ankle at all to shift. I don't know yet how much hope there is for me yet but I just wanted you to know that you are an amazing person and you have my utmost admiration.

@stevelangland39244 жыл бұрын
With any major injury, even during recovery don't let anyone tell you, " you'll never do that" or "no you can't ". Only you can determine what you want to do and can do. I had some huge ideas nothing would change after losing my right leg, it does however, forcing to adapt or recognize you can't do something only after you try and fail or you deduce it isn't possible. Very few things are impossible any more with the advancements in adaptive gear. It also takes courage " to get back on that horse so to speak ". I always envisioned driving without a left foot accelerator, i can do it in my pickup but not the car. Having the portable left foot accelerator has been a huge blessing because it was my decision and choice. For me it works, for someone else the hand controls work. The bottom line is you have to make the decision not be swayed by others and in the end give up too many things and in the end up dependent on others, homebound and depressed because you never stood your ground and at least tried.

From the looks of that helmet, you were very fortunate to have survived, and I'm glad you seem happy.

@jdsnowboy The actuator is a Thomson Electrak E150 with 6 inches of stroke. I got it with the "kit" so I'm not sure where you can buy one. Other actuators will work too but get one that includes limit switches. This allows you to set how far down/up you want the landing gear to go.

I also wanted to tell You about the FES bike with i use to work out my legs. Im 4 yrs into being paralyzed and i still have muscle mass in my legs and butt. It also helps prevent pressure soars and diabetes.

Cool man thank you! Look into the FES Bike!! I use one twice a week at physical therapy and it keeps my leg muscles strong. Its a stationary bicycle that has electrodes that connect to it so you can work out your legs. it also helps with blood circulation and healing in the lower extremities.

@@ParalyzedLiving I grew up in the north of my state in the country. My parents didn’t shelter me because of my disability and let me do what I wanted. I would ride on my uncles sugar cane paddocks and my grandparents farm land. Once I moved to the city though, people told me that I should except that part of my life was over. It was too risky. I should still be grateful that I could go on the back of a motorcycle. But as you would know, that is just not the same. I found a KZbin clip where a blind person broke the land speed record on a motorcycle. I figured if they could do that, then surely I could get back into riding. So I managed to contact them and they helped me. So here I am now. Riding at a motocross park with a navigator using intercom headsets in our helmets. I am currently riding on a KTM 250 SX-F and my navigator is riding on a Honda CRF 230 F. They did a brief news clip for one of our Australian TV channels. It’s also on KZbin. It might give you a better understanding being able to see it in action. Here it is. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5vUkIqrhtJqn5o

When I went back to college I met a lady about my age who had been paralyzed from the chest down in a horse riding accident. She was a real sweetheart whom I would have happily dated if I wasn't so intimidated by her (she had a real go-getter Teddy Roosevelt type personality that was cool but I never thought I was anywhere good enough). I was pretty interested in how she got in and out of her truck, a GMC full size. She had a small folding platform that would raise and lower her from the driver's seat while a crane-like arm would pick up her wheelchair (a manual lightweight model) and place it in the back while holding it in place so it wouldn't bang around. The truck had been fitted with a hand control lever below the column-mounted gear selector that worked the gas and the brake. She kept some plastic tarps and thick towels in the cab to fit over the chair's back and bottom cushion as the wheelchair would get wet in the rain. The girl flat refused to use a van as she thought they made her look like a sissy. I wish I still knew her.
