Coming back to the field after 20 year absence. My tips. Never let anyone closer than arms length. Skin signs tell all. If the child is silent, be scared. All bleeding eventually stops. Always wear safety glasses. 360 awareness, communication with partners, be safe. Oakland EMT here.

I got dropped once coming out of the boo-boo bus. 🤣. The EMTs were too busy chatting and the guy following didn't get a hand on the stretcher. Fortunately I landed butter side up. The look on the leading guy's face was priceless. I just looked at him and said, "Really dude?" and laughed. They both begged me not to tell the hospital staff, and I didn't. First day on shift. Witnessed a 4 car MVA on a busy highway. Pulled over so police can block traffic and we can triage. Fire shows up and we divvy out pt's on who can transfer what. We get a guy who's in pretty bad shape. Medic asks me to go code 3 to trauma hospital nearby. My dumbass turns on the lights and sirens on scene in the middle of a highway before we even start moving. Fire and other passerby start throwing rocks at my window to turn that sh*t off. If that wasn't bad enough, channel 10 news was there filming the whole damn thing.....

ERT have a whole bunch of different positions. EMT is one of them but it’s pretty competitive. You would have to have some decent experience before being allowed on the team.
