I don't think they decided to drop the song for that one line. If that was the case, she could have just made up a new line and inserted it into the live version. She's a great writer, I'm sure she could have done that if she wanted to. I think it's more of the entire song just being something she doesn't relate to anymore and her choosing to not perform it. It was their first huge hit, and yes most bands keep their huge hits in their sets no matter what, but at the end of the day it is the choice of the artist.

To everyone who's talking shit about Paramore choosing not to play it anymore: Stop. The song was written and released over 10 years ago. Hayley said herself that she no longer relates to or believes in the lyrics she wrote as a teenager. Yes, it's sad that we won't be hearing it live for a long time, if ever again. It's a highly energetic song, it's a hit, gets people hyped up at concerts, and I absolutely love the song in spite of the lyrics. Yes, maybe the song got you into Paramore in the first place, but if you truly support them as a band then you can enjoy their other songs too. They've grown since Riot! - let it go. Let the band make their own damn decisions, and if they don't want to play it anymore because it makes them uncomfortable, then you absolutely cannot force them to play a song they no longer feel or believe in. It's saddening, but they needed to move past that point. So be it if this is the way they choose to do it.

Yaqueline, exactly! Sadly, I've been seeing comments elsewhere implying that Paramore isn't worth going to see or listen to anymore simply because of pulling Misery Business from their setlist. It's ridiculous.
@boytechnichian6 жыл бұрын
@@canoes2156 not just because they are pulling misery business but because they are actively distancing themselves from thier previous sound. All bands grow and evolve and that's fine but Paramore seem to be trying as hard as they can to get us to forget that they were once a punk rock band as if it's shameful. Have you seen thier setlists recently? They are about 80% songs from the latest two albums. I know they have a new album to promote but it's massively skewed in favour of the new. And enough with all this bullshit about "true fans" already. It's all over Doctor Who at the moment. I am (or used to be) a fan of Paramore and it's for exactly that reason I'm voicing my disappointment with how they are now. If I wasn't a fan then why would I give a shit as to what they sound like? It's like you can only be considered a "true fan" if you only say positive things about the fandom.
@canoes21566 жыл бұрын
A few points to counter: That's your perception on it. Many people see it one way (thinking they're trying too hard because their new content is vastly different), or see it the other. They have different influences now, and it's unfortunate that people are seeing it as shameful, but they are *not* the same people as they were back then, that's the thing. And of course they're going to be promoting their new album. That's what all of those five tours were oriented around, I love their old songs too but obviously most of it is going to be from more recent content. I'm just trying to make it clear why exactly they did this, because apparently Hayley constantly having to explain in posts and during concerts isn't enough. It is one song. They can still play stuff from Riot and other albums. Hell, they played Oh, Star during Parahoy, and that's a song I thought they'd forgotten about.

I wonder, if you felt the same way as many others and disliked the newest album would you be so vehemently defending the desicion to ditch the past? I doubt it.
@canoes21566 жыл бұрын
If I were to be honest, yes, I've had experiences with no longer liking bands. Fall Out Boy, as an example. I don't like their new album at all, but I choose not to be too vocal about it. I accept that that's their new style, and quietly move on, because there's nothing I can do. I still listen to the older songs because that's what I prefer. Misery Business is still there to listen to, both the studio version and many live versions. The only actual differences are that they're, so far, not playing this song live anymore and that their beliefs and behaviors have evolved over time that they feel they can't keep preaching the message this song has. So it's not that you're not allowed to disagree with what they do, it's just that a lot of people seem to be misunderstanding why exactly they chose to do this and taking it so badly when it was never their intent to "insult fans". It's a good song, and I'm personally hoping they find some way to change up the lyrics so maybe they'll feel comfortable playing it in future, because I do love the song and it's a great one to play live.

I mean I get that they're evolving as a band and that their sound is changing, it's what happens with bands, they adapt, they evolve, they change, but not playing an earlier song at live shows is a bit silly, yeah I get she doesn't resonate with the lyrics and it hasn't aged very well, but context is important, like remember that song was released in 2007, and when listening to it you gotta remember the context of that time and the age of the artist, same thing with TV shows like the office and little Britain, when they were released the socio political climate was way different and they wouldn't get away with any of the jokes they told then (especially little Britain) but they're still played on tv because they were created in a different time and we view them with the context of that time as opposed to today, anyway I'm getting a bit off topic, to conclude, I understand that they are evolving as a band, but I think that it would be a good idea for them to also play these kinda songs at live shows so that they still pay homage in a sense to where they came from instead of denying their roots which is basically what they're doing by not playing it... anyway I'm done rambling

As good as their other songs are ( which is fucking very ) misery is in a different league, it's literally the snowflake squad getting pissed about the once a whore you're nothing more, which has forced Hayley into defence mode with the " I don't relate to the lyrics " and they've ended up pulling the song

Kind of insulting to the fans that not only are they distancing themselves as much as possible from thier original sound as if it's something to be ashamed of, but when they play this for the last time for god knows how long, Hayley half heartedly sings a bit, gets the crowd to do the rest and then drags some random women on stage to finish the song. I'd be pretty pissed if I got to this gig to find it's about 75% the two most recent albums and then thier most popular song gets trashed.
@canoes21566 жыл бұрын
It's been over 10 years since this song was released, they no longer believe in the lyrics of this specific song and you can't force a band to play a song they can't get into anymore. They at least tried to play it for the last time. And they've said nothing about being ashamed about their original sound. Bands change and evolve, anyway. Let them. Besides, Hayley has always brought people up to sing Misery Business and gotten the crowd to sing along. It's as if you don't know what they do at their concerts or what they even stand for.
@kaireee66406 жыл бұрын
They have moved on from certain songs in riot! and maybe you should too. I've been to a concert of theirs recently and it was great. They can do what they want with their concerts and music.
@boytechnichian6 жыл бұрын
Does it matter how long it's been? Could you imagine going to see Queen and them not playing Bohemian Rhapsody? Or Led Zeppelin and not hearing The immigrant song? Or Muse without doing Knights of Cydonia? They are a damn site older than 10. As for not believing in the lyrics, personally I think it's about one line in particular which is 100% understandable in our more socially aware age. But the rest? Well, how many other songs from AWKIF and Riot do they play nowadays? It's not like they had a huge problem playing misery business before me too. (Yes I know it's been mentioned by Hayley in the past, but it's never been THIS much of an issue). It's more likely that there is now a perfect reason to retire thier biggest hit as they had already mostly done with the rest of the back catalogue. They may have struggled to do so before. And I do believe they would rather distance themselves from past albums or at least Hayley would. The line in in "Rose coloured boy" for example. "Cause I just killed off what was left of the optimist in me". Thinly veiled dig at "For a pessimist I'm pretty optimistic"? Maybe that's me with a tinfoil hat on to be fair. I can understand taking a leap to a new sound and to reinvent the band, but for me and thousands of people who loved Paramore it's difficult to not only see them transition into this new entity but to move on as if thier original sound was something they would rather forget. And that's a perfectly reasonable thing. I'm not saying that they are shit now, I'm not saying they should be reproducing what they used to sound like. I'm just saying a little appreciation and acknowledgement of what got them to where they are would be appreciated. And also that that for a good send off for such a great song I expect a damn site better than the same crap they do with the audience at every other show. She could have at least sung the song herself.
@canoes21566 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it kind of does, a lot of change can usually happen in that time, and it depends on the people too. Some bands can spend decades on the same thing. Some want to make something different with every album. They're not all going to progress the same way. I'm sorry that Paramore seems to have changed into something you don't exactly seem to like. And I apologize that I may have sounded like you're not allowed to disagree or that you're not a fan, it's just been frustrating that people calling themselves fans are refusing to get why this has happened and the least I feel that people could do is try to understand instead of them just outright attacking them for pulling one song because that's what I've been seeing ever since it was announced. You don't have to like it. I don't have to like albums I don't feel and I don't force myself to, though I can understand the changes. But if you think Paramore are not appreciative of their fans and that they're being ungrateful, I genuinely believe that that's not their intention. Never once have they not shown appreciation for us. *But* they can't always pander and cater to what we want because they're still their own people. They have still played songs from back then, it may not be as many as you'd prefer but they're still there, as I've probably mentioned in another comment. It isn't as if they've completely erased their past. As for the optimist line, Hayley is just saying she's not the same optimist anymore and can't bring herself to be. She's gone through some shit, like her separation, losing people she thought were her friends, and I can see how that's had an influence on the whole change. I've heard she's mentioned depression, too. Besides, the era is over, and they've stopped touring for the meantime. It's possible they might do something else with the next.

It's most likely because Hayley has said herself back in 2015 that she no longer relates to the lyrics at her current age. The song was written over 10 years ago, when she was still a teenager. She wrote a blog post about it on her personal Tumblr page. They probably can't bring themselves to keep playing a song with lyrics they don't believe in anymore and have grown up since then. That's likely the reason why, though apparently, they've also gotten criticism for the song's lyrics only recently, even after Hayley said all that, which is kind of ridiculous.
