I am a ppg pilot, I don’t own a Blackhawk but I absolutely love the message. I’ve been flying airplanes for years and the only thing that kept me away from ppg was the guys like Dell and Kurt that badmouth everyone but themselves. I went to a mostly PPG / aviation event in Arizona last month. About 1/4 of the Wings were BlackHawk gear and Wings. I tried my best to gather information from all those people who had your gear, because I’m considering the sport with you guys. Every single one of them spoke highly of BlackHawk equipment and the trainers over at the ranch. Misinformation is very ugly. I’ve seen plenty of negative press by some haters and trolls on Facebook. After wading through all the BS (painfully sometimes) out there, the smoke begins to clear and Blackhawk won my business for their reputation of great service (indisputable even by the haters), honesty, knowledge, professionalism and their overall operation as a leader in this business in this country...and they're not overpriced (awesome catalog of videos too-thanks!). Frankly think there's a lot of good gear out there - probably very little of it is trash but I have much more confidence in Blackhawk than buying anywhere else and am not worried about them standing behind their products. As someone else said, 2 strokes need a lot of care and feeding no matter who made it - how well you care for it is probably the largest predictor of problems you encounter.

You've hit the nail on the head. I've been flying for a year and I remember how frustrating it was when I was doing my research. There was so much negativity from a handful of people. One of them who sells motors just a few miles from me is one of them. I refused to buy from him because he is so negative about everything but his motor. I ride street bikes and dirt bikes with my buddies and we never trash another guys machine. Reminds me of this quote, "Being positive is like going up a mountain. Being negative is like sliding down a hill. A lot of times, people want to take the easy way out, because it's basically what they've understood throughout their lives."

That quote is so perfect! I really like that a lot. I've worked for a couple of Manufacturers doing their Marketing and the negativity drives me crazy. Who would have thought that there would be so much of it, in a sport that is so life-changing and positive. I still don't get it, but when you have Dealers on commission, selling a high $ item, things get distorted. We're working hard to use our influence in the Industry to do something about this... Excellent customer service and parts availability is of upmost importance to me. No 2 cycle engine is bullet proof, period. They ALL require some love on a regular basis or they ALL will eventually fail. Everybody in business needs to make money to stay in business. However, throwing folks under the bus to sway opinion towards one and away from another is irresponsible to say the least. Words and opinions are cheap. Experience is not.

All good points. I am a pilot of fixed wing aircraft. Just like in most aviation accidents or failures, it’s mostly pilot error, not equipment. BlackHawk is not going to sell a product that is downright dangerous. They are not looking to get sued for an accident. The best equipment can and does fail. Good training and most of all, regular maintenance, will keep you safe. Maintaining your aircraft, will greatly reduce any failures and accidents. Some products are better than others, but that doesn’t mean the lesser product is a down right death trap. When I get ready to purchase my ppg, it will be a BlackHawk.

Makes a lot of sense you don't become an expert just because you were granted permission to sell a manufacturer's product you become an expert when you've been doing it for many many years and you design your own wings and engine then you can call yourself an expert once you complete that pretty ridiculous how people call themselves and expert when they read a few books and fly for a few months

How do you address product ratings. I have watched videos of Tucker Gott and Mark Honeycutt. Their comments aren't bad, but there are subtle comments about your products. I not sure if I should go with a Black Hawk, Fresh Breeze, Nitro, or Scout. Not sure how to check. All the posts I see seem very biased. What would you recommend to be the best way to choose?

That's a VERY good question. I've worked as the Marketing Director for a couple of Manufacturers now... When I first started looking into this sport (on KZbin as just an enthusiast), it was so frustrating to try and find information that didn't contradict something else being said. It was so hard to know who to believe. A wise Pilot friend of mine told me something I never forgot... He said to "ALWAYS listen to what customers / owners have to say over anyone trying to sell you something." It's also just as important to be wary of people who spend more time talking about other brands (negatively), than what they like about what they fly. I started to talk to people who were NOT Dealers or affiliated with one, not members of "Flying Clubs" or posting in Facebook Groups all the time, and not "some kid or Pilot who want's the fanciest, most expensive toys to start out with." The difference in tone, quality of information, and the friends I made are what helped me get to know "the REAL sport." I'd listen to your gut instinct, and this is a very "relationship-based" decision. It's a BIG investment, so make sure you feel very comfortable with the person you end up buying from. I don't care what brand you end up with - as long as you are out there flying with us! =) I hope that helps and let us know if you have any other questions. Dee Gee not to bash Mark or Tucker but alot of the issues they had where neglected maintenance imho..I know guys with bh stuff with no issues at all..but you have to do the proper maintenance...just like any two cycle engine.. paramotor engines run at high RPM thus need to be maintained regularly.

Great video, Mike and Heidi. I'm anxiously awaiting my new Talon 190 and training coming up in a couple weeks! I've been following PPG online for about a year now (the dream is about to come true!), and one of the first things I noticed about this sport is that there is a lot of trash talk and putting down other peoples equipment/training. I've been a car guy my whole life and it reminds me of the "Ford is junk, Chevy is king...Dodge is the best, Chevy is overrated...Chevy makes good trucks but cars are junk...Dodge is the hot-rod king, Ford is slow...blah, blah, blah." They all do something right and they all have room for improvement. Every PPG equipment review video that I've seen (from any brand) has had a failure and repair at some point.

I flew everything else BEFORE trying the BlackHawk, now I am a dedicated BH user. No-one else has done so much to help people get into this sport but now, it's not just for beginners! The Talon v3 is second to none and if you want to learn or tear it up as an experienced pilot, you can't go wrong with the Core! You should schedule a flight with a local dealer or come to a fly-in and try it out. Remember, the paramotor is simply weight and thrust and your concern should be support, parts and customer service. So, the next time someone tells you why their paramotor is $2000 more, ask why.... As a dealer it represents the tightest margin of all manufacturers but is a product that will be flying years from now.

As someone that is looking to get into the sport I have to do my research on who I think will give me the best training and training that will help save my life when I get into the sport. I have been doing research for years now and have watched countless videos on all sorts of manufacturers. Sadly I fell that not enough people do the research needed to make an informed decision on who they can trust or not, and that is a direct result of not looking on social media or KZbin. It all comes down to the type of training an individual has and the equipment they use. People getting killed using "reflex" gliders that collapse or getting training from someone that has no business being an instructor, and who are basically still students themselves. There is so much out on KZbin and social media to try and make your own decision on what equipment to buy or who you are going to trust your life to for training. For me I will one day get that training in the sport and all the research I have done points me to one of your biggest critics and that is Dell Schanze (which will probably get my comment deleted just for typing his name). We as perspective parameter sport enthusiasts have nothing to go by other than people that have used the equipment and have shared their issues with them. It is very difficult to know if that person is telling the truth on whether they have used the equipment or not other than seeing it on KZbin. Let's face it, no one wants anyone to die in this sport and unfortunately it is something that does happen. As soon as it does happen anyone will see what equipment they are using and have concerns (you do see what I am getting at here right?). I don't think you as a company should tell people not to listen to social media and just be happy about flying and leave negativity out of it. All I can do is read and make my own decision if that information is true or not, and that is all I have to go by.

I was Dell's marketing director for a couple of years before coming to BlackHawk, so aside from his issues with literally every manufacturer in the sport, he's always remained upset that I decided to leave. It's just politics and something I don't have to deal with at BlackHawk (which was one of the primary reasons why I'm here. I love not dealing with negativity in a sport that's supposed to be about the flying). I'd suggest posting in the Paramotor Group on Facebook (with over 20,000 members) and just ask other Pilots what their experience has been with Flat Top. Are you willing to do that so you can get the general opinion of the entire community? Just a suggestion. Also, I always tell beginners to listen to CUSTOMERS above who's trying to sell you something if you want a good testimonial of a brand - including ours. Don't put all your stock in manufacturers, dealers, or professional KZbinrs if you want the cleanest information. We are a business, so of course we recommend our products. I'm not saying that you can't get some great info directly from a Manufacturer, but if you were my friend and I wasn't working for a PPG company, that is what I would tell a friend... Talk to Pilots, not salesmen / women. Facebook does have valuable info too! The point of this video is to try and minimize the brand "pissing match" that goes on way too much between Dealers. It benefits no one. I don't want that causing someone to not realize their dream of flight. The most important thing to remember is that it's all about the flying... I am self taught and even then I noticed that this sport is very clicky. It's the only downside to it. However when I go to fly ins, it doesnt matter what you fly. Glad to see that despite all the negative comments circulating, you guys took the high road. Commendable! Anyone can make this sport as safe as they want it to be. There is no such thing as a bulletproof motor specially with 2-Stroke engine. Titanic was thought to be unsinkable but we all know the ending. I own a BH125 and a Velocity Edge, I never abuse it and happy with it. In fact, on one of my flights I was surprised by a sudden 25mph wind gust which lasted for hours and survived it. Was it because of the equipment? Maybe. Was it because of my piloting decisions and experience? Maybe. Risks and rewards in this sport. Thanks for clearing the AIR for all of us.

I'm looking at this sport recently on youtube. I'm glad the FAA is not killing it yet, but suspect if things keep going the way thyey are, your party will be over. Y'all need to get together and realize that as a whole you all can grow and thrive together- look at all the car manufacturers. FANTASTIC comment. All the "politics" and BS are so unneeded in this sport. It gets exhausting for those of us who have been in the Industry for a while. There are just a few people who cause most of the problems for those of us who just love flying together... One in particular who can't stop getting arrested for doing reckless stuff. It's not hard to figure out who they are, but it can make getting good information so daunting for those new to the sport. We have a completely different approach to business here. We aren't on commission at our office and don't care what brand people fly so long as they are SAFE and smiling. When you have time, give us a call and you will immediately see the difference. Im so glad that you guys made this video. Im a guy that WAS looking into this sport. And like any hobby/sport i do my homework before purchasing anything. And for this reason is why i choose not to purchase any paramotor. My reasoning is if the manufacturers are bashing like crazy , so then when it comes to flying is the community the same " drama". And the one that really did it for me was another dealer says on youtube to a fellow pilot and a kid at that , that he is gonna die. So thank you blackhawk for telling it like it is.

Right! I went through the exact same frustration. I was so excited to discover this sport on KZbin, but when I started making phone calls - that's when the real adventure began lol. I had no idea who to believe and this was a HUGE investment for me. Over years of being in the Industry, I've found that there are only a few people who cause most of the problems. It's not hard to figure out who they are. I've seen the whole "you'll die if you don't by MY brand of Paramotor." Isn't that crazy?!?! I still can't believe "Industry Professionals" would say something like that. I wish they could see how the community reacts to those things. Using fear to sell a Paramotor is so wrong and hurts the whole sport. A lot of the people causing the problems are often the "loudest" on Social Media. It's almost like they just sit on Facebook all day, waiting to pounce on someone instead of getting out there & flying! Yet another great video. Let me start off by saying "you took the words right out of my mouth"! I'm so tired of seeing this nonsense and badmouthing on social media which shows how childish and unprofessional some people can be. I can understand people having their own opinions but especially the ones who post youtube videos saying how a certain brand of powered paraglider is terrible, dangerous, garbage, etc. "In my opinion" they all have their pros and cons but finding the right schools, gear, and how to use them along with how you fly and getting proper training is the message we should be putting out there. Your videos have always given me a face / faces to connect with who you are, what you sell, easy and informative information access and mainly a feeling of comfort knowing I'd be in good hands dealing with your company. Wouldn't you prefer to see videos about what a persons all about and what they do before going on a date with someone instead of a blind date in which you've never even seen them before? Well that's the analogy I'm putting out their to show how good these videos are for potential customers. Can't say that with any other PPG company I've looked into yet, mainly because of little effort in advertising which makes you not fully trust what or who you're gonna be dealing with. Words and pictures on a website and a few replies to emails is just not enough in my opinion. You guys have paved the road, broke the mold, and set the standard that others should follow!

We have some "characters" in this sport, that's for sure (putting it lightly). I worked for Dell for 2 years as his Marketing Guy before I came to BlackHawk. There are some electric units on the market, but the technology just isn't quite there yet as far as flight time, weight, and especially price. We developed one, but the price and flight time just isn't what most Pilots are looking for. That's the most frustrating part about this sport. I used to run chains of Karate schools and I thought the ego or "politics" was bad there... This Industry is really unlike anything else and it didn't used to be like that. At least it makes it easier to see the companies / Dealers out there who are in the business of flying, compared to those who have lost themselves in the sport. I've seen it all. I tell those who are new to the sport to always listen to what other Pilots have to say before listening to someone who is trying to sell you something. What bothers me the most is anyone who uses "fear" to sell a Paramotor, or those who have strong opinions about a motor they've never even flown. Can you imagine if Honda or Suzuki was treating people like this? Telling customers that "they will die if they buy a competetor's product?" Not all Manufacturers / Dealers are like this though. There are still a LOT of really amazing people in this sport. With a few phone calls, you will quickly establish relationships with people who are truly here to help you fly. It really can be an investment and I thought the same thing a decade ago when I first saw one. I started looking into building one myself and ended up with a whole new respect for how they are made & why the cost what they do. As you continue to research the sport you will reach the same conclusion. This is a non-licensed sport and Instructors take on HUGE liability doing this. It's very cheap compared to getting a Pilot License. We are the lowest price due to being a domestic manufacturer. European or imported motors are overpriced. Ours are only a small amount over the cost to make them. Hope that helps make things more understandable from an Industry perspective. Next time someone says black hawk is junk have them give a reason and some background of why it happened. I'm an Airframe and Powerplant mechanic I have worked on helicopters and now on B747 and B767 and i can say that when something breaks its usually due to user error or someone carrying out maintenance incorrectly. I just purchased a blackhawk today and I am confident that if the maintenance is done correctly it will outlast all the paramotors that belong to these idiots on Facebook and KZbin.

They literally believe what they hear on social media and it prevents them from enjoying this sport to its fullest. Man I want to get a paramotor but no idea what to get, everyone bashes whatever brand they don’t have and contradict their own arguments against other gear, it kinda pushes me away a little because of that, also the community is toxic as hell, there’s a small percentage of people that aren’t; those people are typically encouraging of the sport and helpful. That is so well said and it's really exhausting for those of us who have been in the industry a while. I've never seen anything else like it in other businesses I've been in. When I first started watching videos on KZbin, I couldn't believe that anyone could say anything bad about such an amazing experience! The more I looked around, the crazier things got. I've worked for a couple of Manufacturers now... One that was a BIG part of the problem we're talking about, and now BlackHawk - which is so different. All of us here are doing everything we can to set a better example and try to get the sport back to where it used to be... About a decade ago, we saw a couple of "eccentric characters" get into the sport who started using all-out fear and bashing other brands to sell theirs. It was the strangest thing and before that, everyone got along for the most part. These characters would say something absolutely obscene and dishonest about their competition, and their competition would respond with their own colorful comments. It just kept the negativity going in a giant circle and building up - although it started with such a small group of people. It's almost become like a "standard" in the sport and really embarrassing for all Pilots. So many students are leading by the example of "pride and negativity" their Dealer or Instructor instilled in them. Also, the media attention some of these "characters" received by being arrested for doing dumb stuff with their Paramotors started bringing a lot of negative attention to the sport too. People were really afraid of it being regulated, and therefore fought back... Not always in the most professional way. We've been around for almost two decades and are known as "the land of NO PPG politics!" We've heard people say the most horrible things about us, but our time is much better spent working on inspirational videos, making new relationships with Dealers, and helping people realize their dream of flight - instead of taking part in the whole mess. There are some INCREDIBLE honest people in this sport and it's not hard to find them if you take your time researching the companies. I'd suggest listening to people who aren't selling a single thing, and those who don't say anything negative about their competition. Talking to customers might be a lot better than talking to Dealers in this sport. If someone uses "fear" to discredit another product, that's a huge red flag. Dealers are on 100% commission and there's a lot of money involved in the sport. This has caused a lot of people to lose sight of why they got into the sport... Something BlackHawk is committed to never doing. You will find a whole different crowd of people here and I hope you give us the chance to get to know how we do business. =) Hope this helps! I've heard of a term in this sport called prop strike. I don't care if it adds another $5,000 to the unit, I will pay it to avoid this type of injury. This should be addressed by all the manufacturers and eliminated in this sport.

Absolutely! A "prop strike" is anytime something (or God forbid "someone") gets struck by the prop. It really is extremely rare (although there are some Dealers who use FEAR as a sales tactic and tell people it happens all the time). It's really sad and fear shouldn't be a "marketing tool" for a professional Manufacturer. The most dangerous time during the entire flight process is literally starting the motor! So many people get excited to fly and don't pay attention or properly brace their motor while starting it. If you get really good training, you will never get struck by the prop. If you talk to anyone who has had a prop strike, they can tell you exactly what they could have done to prevent it. The netting helps a lot with safety, but experienced Pilots should never get too comfortable =)

Thanks for the comment and expressing your concern. This is absolutely not the case with our Paramotors. If any customer has an issue, our customer service is incredible, which is one of the reasons why we've been in business for so long. We sell more Paramotors than any other brand. With 10 times the number of BlackHawks out there, of course there will be people with occasional issues. How those issues are handled makes all the difference though. If other Manufacturers sold as many units as we do, there would be a lot more customer issues out there with their brands too. It's just the way business is. With foreign imported motors, it can be very challenging to get parts or repairs done - which is important to consider, and why so many people choose us. Here's what I'd suggest and this is very important. See where the source of whatever you read or heard came from. There is so much confusing, muddy, and contradictory info out there in the PPG world. It's frustrating for us all. I can almost guarantee that the sources of info you found are coming from a Dealer for a competing brand, a Dealer's friend, or have some kind of personal motivation to push a different product. If you look for negative reviews with any brand, they are out there. There's an overwhelming number of positive customer experiences too. The number of unhappy Pilots are a micro-fraction of those who love their BlackHawk Paramotor. I'd talk to Pilots who own a BlackHawk and not a Dealer or some KZbinr. When Dealers are exclusively on commission and competing with a brand that can undercut their price, some people lose sight of the fact that this sport is all about the flying... Not the money. As a poor 52-year-old Disabled Army Veteran with 18 years service, as well as an online videographer, photographer, an imagineer and social media marketer, I always do my research to find companies I can trust, as well as to share with others. I may be fairly new to the sport, but I do try to follow it closely ( hey, I'm disabled, what else am I going to do lol). Due to funds (vet's never made much money while they are in service, and they make even less money when they are out and waiting for that single small monthly paycheck.) I will likely never be able to afford a Paramotor, but if I do, I hope it's a BlackHawk Paramotor! keep up the good work

Everyone knows about Dell lol. What a "character" right? There are so many amazing people in this sport and they all just stay away from him / do their own thing. We all really feel sorry for the guy at BlackHawk. I can't imagine living in his head for one minute. (I used to work for the guy for 1.5 years which was all I could handle so I know him quite well. Not something I tell most people. It almost ruined my ability to get a job with another Manufacturer. He really needs help but could never admit that there's something wrong). Him using fear as a marketing tactic is what gets me. This sport is so incredibly safe, and while it's good to have a "healthy amount of concern" while flying, to make claims that people will die for purchasing a competitor's brand is just wrong. I believe that Dell is just kinda abrasive in his approach using someone who died just to sell more equipment. Bad taste really. Aircraft mechanic for 20+yrs and have seen a number of people die flying general av aircraft. It is never a good thing when someone dies and people get hurt(friends and family) outside the sport when it happens. Fly when it's good and safe. Know what/where you are going and understand the basics of flight/weather, your ability and the ability of your equipment. Bad things are less likely to happen, just a good time for all. Like that much better.
