Hello Andy! I have been learning the guitar for just over a year now and I am still having fun. I stumbled over your lesson for Paranoid while on a work break this past Thursday and decided to have a go at it today (Saturday). Here is the thing that I most want to mention. I have wanted to play this song before I started learning guitar. Early on in my journey I attempted it but said to myself that I would come back to it as I found it too difficult. I can now play Paranoid easily as I understood everything you instructed here. I thank you for your many videos that you post on KZbin and help us who are just getting there to be better.

According to Tony Iommi himself, his riff does in fact end on the B note of the A string. 3:13

I mentally queried that as soon as Andy played it but if TI says it ends on the B it ends on the B....

I love how you explain different variations of this riff without saying "this is the right one and you have to do it that way" and you teach it very carefully. Nice work! Greetings from germany.

I've seen discussion before about where to play this, 12th on 6th string or 7th on 5th string, and the fact that Tony Iommi plays it at 12th being justification for that. Maybe one thing to consider though is the guitar being used. Tony plays it on an SG and the fret board is quite a way further out from the body on an SG. I have Epifone versions of both SG and Les Paul. I just laid the two side by side on the floor and lined up the curve where they sit on the knee to simulate them both being played in the siting position then looked at how the frets line up. Relative to the players body playing on the 12th fret of the SG is the same as playing the 9th fret on the LP. I'm a complete beginner so not trying to make any sort of expert point, it's just an observation. As a beginner I find it quite awkward to get to the 12th fret for the top (thick) strings on my LP (the wedge at the back of the neck gets in the way) but no problem on my SG. I absolutely love what you do by the way and this is the clearest and best how-to-play-Paranoid video that I've seen, worth watching just for that tip on how to quickly jump the power cord strings by baring both root notes and only changing the other finger, let alone the clarity and quality of the rest of your lesson.

Thanks Andy. I started your beginner course just over a month ago and thought id give this a go. No expectation of being able to play it but your tutorial was great and I have managed to pick it up. Would love a tutorial for the Solo. You did provide a link to the tab but i suspect ti would eb much easier with you presenting it. Thanks again.

Awesome tutorial! I have been struggling with Metallica's "one" for sometime now. I was so frustrated.. I've just came across Paranoid and gave it a go. The tutorial is so nicely done, I was so amazed that I could play it after couple tires.

Nice! Altho for the 12/14th fret pentatonic part, rather than down/up/down/up picking, I prefer up/down/down/up turning it into more of a 2-string sweep. Personal preference!

Hi andy thnx for the lesson! I've got a question regarding your finger placement/independence at the intro of the song. I've noticed that when you hammer on with your ring finger your middle finger curls a bit inwards. Sorry for asking, but it happens to me and i am trying to minimize it as much as possible. So to what extent this curling is acceptable?And how can i minimize it?
@ranhold16 жыл бұрын
Solo please sir and thank you very much as always
@wulf673 жыл бұрын
Props for showing this in the correct 12th position, but you have to hammer-on every other note (except the last two) on that intro riff, not pick-pick-pick-pick, pick-pick-pick-pick. Try it.
