Hey Bob, We've talked on the phone a couple of times but haven't been able to make timings work to meet you yet. Just wanted to say that I love your videos and I'm always anxiously waiting for a new one! We are beginners who are slowly building our tropical garden. I particularly liked this video as we are learning to identify plants. Great educational work! THANK YOU! :-)

I live 2 hours south of Sydney in a warm pocket of the coast frosts are very rare here we had a couple of light frosts this past winter but its usually pretty mild here and I have a lot of tropicals growing and doing well. They don't grow as fast down here I find but I have tried many over the years and most of the gingers come back every spring some don't even die down. But my secret is seaweed. I really pump my plants with seaweed and plenty of potash over the year and seaweed like crazy comming up to winter before I stop watering I find too much water rather than just the cold nights are what does most of them in down here. If you keep them dry and protected they seem to cope. The most sensitive ones I keep potted in the greenhouse over winter. I even have vanilla orchid doing quite well I keep it potted and just protect it for a month or 2. My soursop survived last year but that was potted in the greenhouse this year I will be running some heat cable in there at night. It did drop all it's leaves but came back. So we will try either a heat mat or cord this year and see if it keeps it's leaves. I am also growing the mountain soursop outdoors and it is doing ok. I have ylang ylang planted outside and it is also doing ok.

thing with even a simple cheap plastic greenhouse provided its well ventilated it dosn't just protect plants from frost it acts as an umbrella in winter so you can control how much water they get.
