Brian - I have been watching a bunch of your videos and just want to say you must be an inspiration to others with SCI. You appear to be kicking SCI's ass and not letting it stop you from living your life. To take time out of your life to show others the lessons you've learned is very cool.

Yes, it was very easy to modify my existing desk and my employer was happy to do this for me. All they had to do was slide the legs under the desk and screw them down. You're right, I've always been a handy person and I enjoy tweaking things to make them custom. Thanks for the positive feedback, Joe!

JoeOnWheels Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, companies are required to provide reasonable accommodations. The cost of the adjustable desk won’t “break the bank” or have an adverse effect on the structure of the building; therefore it’s a reasonable accommodation

The standing chair that you used is interesting - never seen one like that before. It's a manual with a power stander. What brand/year is it please. I've thought of getting a stander (not mobile) for my workspace. Any thoughts on those?

I bought it used and have no idea what kind it is. It doesn't have any logos. But yes It's manual until I use the power assist to stand. I used it today at work actually. I don't use it every day though.

Have you heard about the fairly recent advances in Bionic Exoskeleton's? Basically robotic legs you wear on the outside that allow parapelegics to stand and walk. There has been a lot of exciting research done in this field at U of C Berkeley in California and there is a very nice exoskeleton out on the market called REX made in Israel. Right now prices are high as the technology is relatively new, but like any technology as it advances and these devices go into mass production, economies of scale will result and they will be affordable. I think you would be an ideal candidate for one. By the way, thanks for all the hope and inspiration you provide both for paralyzed and able bodied people as well with your videos.

Do you still have this chair? If so power assist wheels will make it easier to push around the office (providing the chair is compatible--if you had to, I'm sure you could modify it). The irony in power assist wheels is they are heavy. This was obviously pre ab-binders day. After you got the ab-binder...did you notice a difference in breathing?

I saw in one Clip that you said you like to tinker about with Cars, and I was thinking to myself, oh if only he had the full use of his Hands at least that would be something good. - (is it teno something that Patients get in their Arms / Hands with higher-up Injuries that prevent them from holding stuff etc?!) But, if you're from the Waist down does that mean you have full use of your Hands? : )

Stand as much as possible. I'm t4/5 almost 30 yr. I had the money for a 1st gen lifestand serval $k. But I didn't use much. Two times it hurt me so I got mad and quit. Now, my bone loss so bad doc says I can't stand. Fell in 2015 broke/crushed knee falling out on a txfr cause of osteo. All I've read says paras always lose bone mass even if standing so stand as much as you can. Don't make my mistake. Good luck

If you find torso support helpful, take a look at Inova Corsetry-the corset vest. They make corsets for the male body. Like a female corset it provides back support but they tailor it to the male physique. It’s less bulky than any medical back brace and it’s firm enough to provide really good support. So if you like the compression your tight shirt gives you, you may like the extra support this undergarment might give you.

+aiman haikal Not a whole lot you can do about the belly if you have a higher injury level. It's called a "para pot belly" and is mostly caused by not having any abs to hold it all in. I've found that using an abdominal binder really helps slim me down and also gives me a little more core stability.

Great video! I'm wondering if the chest strap is too tight and that's why you are having trouble breathing? I wonder if you could rig up something so that you are still getting the trunk support you need, but not binding you up so high on your chest near your diaphragm? Maybe a strap that is much wider? Just thinking out loud.

Hi Brian. So it has been 3 years now since you posted this video. How is your standing routine now? Do you stand more than 2,5 hours per day? Brian Great video. How long were you out of work for after you were injured? Do you still work for the same company and may I ask what you do for a living? How long ago were you were hurt. I like your elevating desk and standing wheelchair. May I suggest next time you fly take your wheelchairs on board the plane with you so they don't get damaged on you by the careless baggage handlers. I know a fellow Veteran who is a quadriplegic who had his wheelchair wheels badly damaged by the baggage handlers. He couldn't even roll his chair in the airport. The wheels had to be taken to a shop in the airport to be be straightened out so he could use his chair again. Long story short he had to get new wheels before he came home. May I ask are you a fellow Veteran? If so thank you for your service Brian.

Hi Sebastian! I tried the Supracor cushions and didn't feel they gave me enough protection. I would check my skin after sitting for a little while and my butt had red marks showing there was a decent amount of pressure. I prefer air filled cushions. I currently use a ROHO hybrid. It has a solid base with an air pocket for your butt. It's light weight and doesn't require a lot of maintenance. Luckily I have a spare just in case I got a puncture but they come with a patch kit and are easy to fix if you ever do run into a "flat." I actually did make a video on cushions if you care to check it out. Good luck! kzbin.info/www/bejne/hV7bm2VnjJWAiZo

Paralyzed Living It simply from a business point of view, feelings aside, is a terrible decision to put any disabled person where they can be seen. To prospective customers and vendors it represents weakness. Lets face it, it's all about what we see in any business. Most companies will not do business with any prospective business that represents weakness to them. It equals poor quality and or performance. I am not trying to be mean, but that is the facts, whether we like it or not.

+stargate4698 Wow, that makes me wonder what part of the world you live in. I can't imagine anyone reacting like that to seeing someone disabled; that's nuts. I do think some companies are afraid of hiring disabled people because they're afraid it will be more work for them (that they would need to buy them special equipment or change the office around or something), but as far as 'image', that's nuts and no, people don't think like that (at least where I live).
