The thing is that all members of the family have the qualifications and skills for those jobs but they don't have a "diploma", "status" to actually access those jobs because that's all people care about, they only care about papers and "connections". Even having a diploma or certification is not enough, they still need the "connection recommendation".

I believe the mother playing the current housekeeper who kicks the other down the stairs is a reminder that hierarchy is human nature and those at the bottom who climb up the social ladder are often just as likely to maintain their status by treating the others badly, keeping them from rising.

I love how this movie explored a different side of an overused topic (rich vs poor). We've seen so many films that cover the black & white, such as the evil corrupted rich taking advantage of the poor. While that's a sad truth, it's only a portion of the real power dynamic in our society. We often overlook how the poor is always fighting with each other when they could be pulling their heads together and help each other. We see so many examples through everyday crime news (all the hate crimes, neighborhood crimes, small business/convenience store robbery). The reality is, most middle-elite class in modern society are just minding their own business. Sure, there's a portion of rich people who are truly evil. But really, the rest of them simply don't give a shit about what's going down in the lower class community. Their main interest is on which company they should invest on next. That means they also have no business in directly harming the poor. At the same time, they casually look down on the poor people living in the same city while also casually donating money to Unicef.

I noticed another detail in my 7th watch of the "Parasite". In the basement revelation scene, Moon- gwang(The OG maid) says that her husband, Geun-se is living there because of the loan sharks. Then Geun-se states that he wasn't being able to repay the dues and loans because his "cake shop in taiwan" was destroyed by fire. This was foreshadowed earlier in the film by Mr and Mrs. Kim in the driver's lounge scene.They said that before Mr Kim was a valet, he used to work at a chicken place which went bust before the "Taiwan cake shop". The "Taiwan Cake Shop" mentioned by Mrs Kim is the exact same Taiwan Cake Shop which was owned by Geun-Se. 🔥💯 Parasite is literally the Greatest OF ALL TIME. 💯

In that scene, Mr & Mrs. Kim clearly states that he used to work as a valet in the same area in Taiwan where the Cake Shop was burnt. I proved it the help of those scenes where the Taiwan Cake Shop which was mentioned by the Kims Is the same Taiwan Cake Shop which at one point was owned by Geun-Se! Now can you prove that it wasn't the same Taiwan Cake Shop? Is there any scene where it is said that it isn't the same Taiwan Shop? Nope you can't because there isn't a single scene where it's hinted that the cake shop mentioned by both families are different. Don't prove someone wrong with such confidence when you don't even have any proofs.

@@ManiDa-qu2hi normally I wouldn't respond to someone as rude as you are but here is your proof. At 31:01 they discuss dad's past work. He owned a chicken shop that went bust. Then he owned a cake shop that went bust, then worked as a valet. He owned these failed businesses. At least that's what the subtitles indicate. They might say something different in korean, which I don't speak. Really no need to get so aggressive about a movie. Don't you think they would have known each other if he worked for him? The cake shop was a small business, surely the owner would know all of their employees? Why didn't they recognise each other? Two different cake shops, that's why. Your idea was neat but falls apart and makes no sense when you really think about it. The director just knew the cake shops were trendy at the time and thought it would be realistic for the time and place. It actually has a lot to do with the movie, a lot of middle class folks became poverty class because of those cake shops.

Another nice detail is that when the son wakes up after the surgery, the first thing he sees is a detective who looks nothing like a detective and a doctor who looks nothing like a doctor. This is meant to show that those people have the necessary documents to be doing their jobs, while the Kims have the skills and not the papers to be doing their jobs. The theme of bureaucracy carries on throughout the film, for example, when the sister is responding to Mrs Park's call, the first thing she asks for is the documents, despite knowing them very well.

0:08 I am a huge fan of your videos and everything you have put out but you did get one thing very fundamentally wrong in this video. You mentioned how the poor family are the parasites of the movie but actually it's both families. The movie actually very much highlights this duality. While the poor family cannot live on their own and have to constantly use others to continue living, such as using people for job references, using other people's Wi-Fi, and of course the obvious of taking what they can from the rich. As for the rich family, they have actually become too privileged. The rich family is that a point where they can no longer tutor or babysit their own kids, they no longer cook for themselves, they don't clean their own house, nor do they drive their own cars, and have to use the poor to continue living themselves. Both families use each other heavily throughout the film in order to get by. The relationship is parasitic due to their complete disregard of how their actions affect the other family and selfish nature to use each other for their own wellbeing. 0:08
@ChinnuSped Жыл бұрын
I think you misunderstood the meaning of "parasitic nature". The poor family is being parasitic by leeching on the rich family eventhough they're teaching,cleaning and driving the rich family, they're still frauds. But the rich only employing them and using them and paying them. This is not parasitic at all. You might say symbiotic where both parties get something, but definitely not parasitic.

This movie was absolutely amazing! Loved to learn more about some small details I missed, like the number of chairs changing. One thing that really struck me are the themes of togetherness and being apart in the movie. The poor family is almost always together. In their small home, going out to eat together, getting a job together and even when the Parks are away and they are in their house you see them coming together again. Meanwhile the Parks mostly seem to live very seperate lives. They are hardly in the same room as each other and that only seems to change once they employ the poor family. You also see it all fall apart for the poor family when they all split up during the birthday party and final scenes. They are all physically and mentally in different places. The father seems to have made up his mind that he will kill the people in the basement. Meanwhile the mother who actually killed the women by kicking down the stairs thinks everyone was overreacting and maybe they can talk it all out today.

I don’t understand the rock. It clearly has mass and density, as several characters consider using it as a weapon. And nobody ever remarks that it’s lighter than it looks, or anything.
