Just came across your video, my journey was more than 12 months, same as you my calcium levels were high. I had ultrasound, CT Scan and MRI, my surgeon is a star, and explained everything thoroughly. My surgery was scheduled for November 2023 but a week before I contracted COVID and then subsequently had 2 chest infections. I finally got my surgery last Tuesday and am on the way to recovery.

Thank you for this video. I hope you’re feeling great and back to normal. I just had my blood work done and my PTH is at 152 and it’s supposed to be 60. I got online and chased the problem to parathyroid and then came to KZbin for some more info…that’s when I found you and this video, so now when I see my dr on Wednesday, I will be ready for the drill and know what to expect. Wishing you ALL THE BEST!

My wife’s Endocrinologist had the exact same alarmist reaction while diagnosing her. He went as far as to mention cancer! I don’t know why some doctors get overly excited about a very rare chance at it being cancer instead of just informing the patient the simple fact that primary hyperparathyroidism is very curable with a simple surgery. smh

I had surgery on my parathyroid yesterday. They had to remove two of the four. One was 20% larger than the normal size of a parathyroid. Currently my neck is sore but mentally I feel 100% better. I have been dealing with tiredness and depression for several years. My primary care doctor started noticing my calcium levels and sent me to a specialist that determined I had hyper parathyroid. I hope to continue feeling this good with energy I currently have and it’s only been one day.

I also did the same test as you and got the diagnosis. My surgery was supposed to happen on January 2nd but anesthesiologist mixed it due to me recovering from the flu and still having the rough coughing. Thank God my parathyroid is doing just fine, everything's back to it's normal levels 🙏🏽 I'm on a low fat diet to lower my cholesterol and it's not been easy, I've put on some extra weight within this past year and it's been very challenging. I'm at the gym riding the treadmill at least 4 times a week and I love it 😀 I've lost 5 pounds this week thank God. This weight must come off... I hate it!! Apparently the only cure is surgery. How do you stop the overactive parathyroid gland with natural means? If you find something that works, please tell everyone and post on social media but I don't think there is anything else that can be done but surgery to remove the enlarged and overproducing parathyroid gland. They just get bigger and bigger.

Hi there Christi I'm so sorry to hear this about your surgery that's horrible. It takes time for your levels to go back to normal. My levels took month's almost a year. What helped my levels go back to normal was my Endocrinologist put me on vitamin D pills and took the water out of my high blood pressure pills and it worked. My calcium is back down to where it should be. My parathyroid has gone down but not quite all the way down from my last doctors visit but the doctor said that was fine as long as my calcium levels were down then everything was fine thank God. How many parathyroids did they take out? My doctor told me going back in was never a good thing and that worried the heck out of me. Thank God I checked out fine this past January 🙏🏼 I'm praying for you, I can't imagine what you're going through because of all of this. No worries everything will be ok. About 3 weeks however it was totally up to me because I thought I had to come up with my out of pocket deposit before I could schedule the surgery which that's what they told me at Norman Parathyroid Center. That information was so wrong. They tried to get me to pay $400 upfront before my surgery and I almost did. How could they give me that fee when they never processed anything with my insurance company 🙄 PLEASE do not pay anything until they process with your insurance company. That $400 they asked me to pay ended up being ZERO! My insurance paid the entire bill and all I had to pay was $21.00. I could've scheduled my surgery sooner if I had known that I didn't have to pay a dime for my surgery. It doesn't take long to schedule your surgery. It's up to you and their availability on their surgery schedule.

I've just had one parathyroid gland removed and weight loss was very evident for me. Apparantly you can get muscle wastage with it and also the pth hormone can stimulate the white fat cells and they become 'exited' and turn to brown cells (skinny people have more brown cells) and so in some people weight loss occurs. I was normal weight for years being vegetarian and this disease certainly took its toll on me. Hopefully now it's been 3 weeks since my surgery and I can start to gain weight again! Hope you can too.

@@NeshaAntoinette The Norman Parathyroid Center does the nuclear scan the same day as surgery. Don't have this done twice. All they need is your blood test results to diagnose you. They do not need a nuclear scan to diagnose you ahead of the surgery. The quality of the scan depends upon the experience of the one doing the scan. Have the specialized parathyroid doctors take care of all of this for you. They know what they are doing. Go there first.

What a horrible way to introduce hyperparathyroidism! Maybe start with the diagnosis explanation BEFORE jumping into "you need surgery"?? Ffs, doctor I'm so sorry you were attacked that way with the situation rather than a reasonable introduction to the disease. I had my 3.5 parathyroidectomy on 11/27. First sign was a calcium of 10.8 last Nov. Parathyroid cancer is Rare. A benign tumor or hyperplasia is the usual cause of primary hyperparathyroidism, as diagnosed via labs - site only sometimes confirmed and.condition treated via skilled surgery

@@NeshaAntoinette What are you talking about? I said that the way it was introduced to you was awful. At the first lab, telling you about the high calcium and why you needed new labs would have been kinder and would have served to avoid causing a panic. None of how things were presented to you, as shared on your video, have anything to do with what you did OR what you could control. I was clearly speaking facetiously, to the MD who sent you into a panic by waiting until After the nuclear test to tell you what was going on. I don't feel like you've been mean because, in reading, it seems I was misunderstood.

Forgive me for the misunderstanding. Your comment was missed read. Please forgive me, I had a bad day yesterday. I found out that my parathyroid levels has gone up but my calcium level is real good thank God. I might need surgery again after I speak with the endocrinologist 😭 Once again Please forgive me for misunderstanding your comment 🙏

@@NeshaAntoinette I'm so sorry to read that! Hopefully, they can get them all this time. For me, diagnosed with depression since 2004 but living with it on some level since my early teens the 80s, increasing anxiety was my main, increasing symptom since last year. The good thing was that it was the first thing that I noticed was back under control post-op. The "psychiatric groans" part of the picture is so real, only made worse by the physical symptoms that we don't know how to categorize as normal or not normal. The longer the disease (at least 5 years for me, judging by when my calcium hit the "normal" 10s. No adult should be in the 10s,apparently), the more struggling with fatigue, brain fog, etc., making us feel so old and untrusting of how we're going to feel from day to day. It's a hard way to live. The nurse in me came out when hearing how somebody in that position would have relief presented as a scary thing, rather than the helpful solution that it should have been! I do pray that they find them all this time. The scans are really only to help the surgeon pinpoint where to look. It really comes down to them to explore and catch them all (sometimes in the mediastinum). One of mine was up above the hyoid bone (above the voice box) on the left, which wasn't noted on film. My surgeon checked my PTH during surgery to confirm success. Hopefully, you'll have access to a board certified endocrine surgical specialist who will help this surgery be the cure that it should 🙇🏾‍♀️

How long does it take for the surgeon to do the surgery? Were you just in hospital for the day? Hope you are going well now😊

Hi there 😊 It took 1 week after my 1st initial consultation. It's based on the surgeon's schedule. 1 day surgery, they send you home same day.

Hi Rebecca how are you? I pray all is well ❤ Very good question. Yes my cholesterol was very high and I was put on a low cholesterol diet way before my surgery. I go back to my primary doctor in February to check my cholesterol levels and I pray to God it's gone down. I have to eat the right foods and exercise to get my cholesterol down. You practicly can't eat anything while watching your cholesterol. This is not fun at all. Thank you for your comment Rebecca. Have a Good Day 💐

Right in the center of my lower neck line and it was not noticeable at all from the outside, not even a lump I don't think. However that tumor was huge 😳

I felt like someone was choking me. Fatigue, absolutely no energy, depressed all the time. Anxiety out of this world. Blurry vision, panic attacks. Very bad headaches, brain fog, confusion and weight gain. Those were all my symptoms before my parathyroid surgery and they all were nightmares 😢 I thank God it's all over

I love your video it describes exactly everything I’m going through. Your video was explained perfectly. I just realized my vision is getting blurred and I feel old like my body is breaking down and just don’t want to do nothing anymore. I meet my surgeon January 8th. I just want to be normal again 😢

This too shall pass 🙏🏽 I pray for good health for you. Thing's will get better. I'm sitting in front of the Endocrinology center now as we speak 01/04/2024 8:00 Am waiting to see my parathyroid specialist 😢 I had lab work done 2 weeks ago and my primary care doctor said my parathyroid has gone up. I'm so upset because I'm starting to get those same symptoms back again. Body aches 😫 blurred vision 😫 tired as ever. Depression, weird tension headaches not often but I have noticed that. I'm so scared because I don't want to have surgery again 😫 I have 3 parathyroids left and I don't want no other issues if I have to have them removed 😔 😭 I'm about to walk into my parathyroid appointment now please pray for me and I will do the same for you. Be Encouraged my friend 🙏🏼 Feel better.

@@NeshaAntoinette I'm sorry to hear that. I'm no doctor, but according to what I've researched, it's not unusual for your PTH to go up/fluctuate as long as your calcium level remains within the normal range over time. I'm sure your endocrinologist will get to the bottom of it. I'm praying for you that you will NOT require another surgery! Hopefully, the symptoms are just due to your anxiety upon hearing of the elevated PTH 🙏🏾

Thank you so much 🙏🏽 I had good news on this past Thursday. My Endocrinologist said the same thing, as long as my calcium level is down to where it should be then I'm doing good praise God 🙌 Everything's fine with my lab work except my bad cholesterol is high 😢 I've been struggling with this for a while now. I'm on a low cholesterol diet because right now I refuse to take the Statins because they make me so sick and it makes my body ache. Thanks again for your kindness 😊 I pray all is well with you.

@@NeshaAntoinette That's a blessing! I'm so glad to hear this. Maybe I should go to med school, LOL 😂 Too bad your cholesterol is high. Hopefully you'll get it under control. I'm fortunate that mine is only slighly elevated, so I have to watch my diet as well. Same with my glucose level. I'm starting to feel a little better and I just took a walk to the store after sitting around on the couch, watching TV since my surgery, lol. We had a little snow this morning, but it melted, so I decided to get my butt up and take a walk 🤣
