It's a shame doctors are so dismissive with patients who seek help from them. When my bestfriend started complaining to me about symptoms he was having, I immediately made an appointment for him. I just knew he had bladder cancer, yet his doctor doubted it; but because I wouldn't allow her to be so dismissive, she referred him to a urologist. A week later we found out he had a tumor the size of a golf ball and other small ones...Cancer was starting to spread! Thankfully, they were able to remove all cancerous tumors, and chemo shrunk the rest. He's been cancer free 7 yrs now!

I was misdiagnosed for two full years. My doc kept saying it was IBS and that stress was causing my symptoms (basically, he thought I was imagining them). When it got to the point where I was having nose bleeds, sick to my stomach, and passing out, he was still saying the same (talking about women and “emotions” and “female stress”). I said I have never heard of stress causing nose bleeds or losing consciousness - he said you would be surprised what symptoms stress can cause. I was having blood taken weekly for tests and he kept telling me that everything came back fine. I was getting these super dark marks under my eyes and I was barely making it through my days - I went to one of my (weekly at this point) appts one day. My normal doc forgot to cancel my appt before he went out of town so they said they had a new female doc that could see me if I was ok with that and I said that was fine. That doc saved my life!!! She found all through my med records where all those blood tests they had been running for literally two years showed my counts all over the place. The lab kept highlighting the results and saying that he needed to meet with the patient (me) - my doc would sign off that he saw the results but then never signed off as having contacted me regarding them. This was a Friday - so that female doc had a female oncologist friend from med school that was top in their class. She called her that day, faxed her my records, and had me set up with an appointment that following Monday. They had me rushed in for surgery 2 weeks later - they didn’t think I would survive the surgery, much less any chance of any years. My oncologist said it makes her so angry these male docs that don’t take women seriously and just assume that we are being “so emotional” when what she finds is that we tend to pay attention to our bodies. She made me promise that if I ever questioned a doctors diagnosis, that I seek a 2nd, 3rd, or however many opinions that I need to - because we know our bodies best. (Because it was in my med records a bunch of times that I had already had cancer before and I kept thinking the cancer was back - I thought surely my doc knew better than me since he had all the blood tests). Since all of this, I have trusted my instincts because you are right - they are “practicing”/learning as they go. Like you, I also had a very aggressive cancer. I think anyone who has ever had a cancer diagnosis remembers the moment of being told. It’s like everything they say after that just falls away. I remember asking her if I was going to die and she said she just honestly didn’t know. One thing I unfortunately learned after my cancer diagnosis was who my friends truly were. I thought I had so many friends, but once I was diagnosed, they just disappeared from my life (including my guy, who I wouldn’t have thought would have just walked away). I had very few people left in my life when it was all said and done. I was in my late twenties at the time - it was the hardest time of my life… I will never forget putting together my will so my little boy would be taken care of. But I’m now a 3-time cancer survivor, and I have made it through!!!

Please read the comment under Martina McBride's ' In My Daughter's Eyes' video: My mom recorded a cover of this song for me and it took years before I could listen to it. Then it took a long time for me to be able to listen without crying. She got H1N1 back in 2009 when there was a huge break out of it. She was hospitalized and pit in the ICU 6 weeks before my 6th birthday and my little sister was only 1 1/2 at the time. The doctors told my dad and my grandparents to start preparing for her funeral because they didn’t think she was going to make it. So we prayed. Then not long after that on my birthday (September 27) she slipped into a coma. So we continued to pray and a few days later our prayers were answered as she began to get better. About a week or two after that she was home and on the mend. It was a true miracle and I don’t have a doubt in my mind that God had heard our desperate cries and answered them. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have her today. Praise the Lord.

One lovely comment, not mine: My husband had a stage 4 lung cancer, and doctor said he would only have few months to live. We have changed our live style together by changing our diet (Whole food plan base diet), exercise, and be in the sun for about 1 hr/day. To our surprise, his tumor in the brain shrink then disappear in just 2 short months. His doctor had no words on how we could reverse cancer naturally.

Ladies, please if you have any concerns about bladder problems make sure you make a lot of noise with the medical profession. My daughter had UTIs for 20 years and constantly fobbed off with antibiotics, long and very painful story later she died on April 10th 2021 aged 39 leaving 5 children behind. @THEGREATANDMIGHTY!🌹 that was the scenario with my daughter, please shout louder to your doctor, probably nothing but they should be investigating further. They have the mindset that younger people cannot get bladder cancer but I have seen so many reports stating otherwise. For your peace of mind ask your doctor to investigate further. I’m having bladder infections several times a year now and I need to have another cystoscopy. I’ve had several colleagues die from bladder cancer. They were old white women, retired RNs like me. Again, Ebony, thank you for encouraging me. I needed it.

I had an ectopic pregnancy & my doctor did not even ask me to take my coat off!! I went two days later to another doctor who looked at my face & phoned the hospital there in front of me & made an emergency appointment for 0845 the next morning. I shudder at the treatment i initially got. I bled as if I was competing with Niagara Falls. I recovered & had two children a few years later., All good.

I feel this. I had stage 1 bladder cancer two years ago now. I spent 6 months trying to get someone to listen to me. They kept checking me for UTIs and, when I finally got an appointment with the urologist, they basically told me I was probably imaging things. Just as they said that they turned the camera and there was a huge tumor. I’ll never forget their, “That’s not supposed to be there.” Thank you for sharing your story.

A urologist told me I was imagining things, that I should go to a psychiatrist home Please tell me did you do a surgery and how are you feeling now? And how was the tumor found? I have done several test but all of them keep coming that I’m okay and I can’t forget how the last urologist I went to shouted at me for trying to explain to him how I feel I’ve been suffering with this for the past 8 months now Please help me out with information! I’m dying, I’ve lost control of my bladder , I pee like 19+ times a day I have a pain inflamed in my back sometimes and most times I have a biting pain inside the centre of my bladder most times like I’m pee filled when I’m not 🤦‍♂️

🇯🇲Bladder cancer is seldomly thought to be a possibility with: 1) women 2) young, women 3) young, black, women 4) young, black, women who neither drink, smoke or work with certain chemicals I was quickly diagnosed in my very early 20s via an ultrasound that showed the tumor lodged inside the bladder. Take courage. God is able. He still heals. I'll be 60 this year. No issues. No cancer. By the way, not many wear a bald well. You did so gorgeously.😊 Few things if you don't mind: 1) Be mindful about your diet 2) Try as best to maintain a positive mind and deal with things in a pragmatic way 3) Deal with all hurts, regrets and disappointments of the past 4) Develop a healthy relationship with the Lord 5) Speak life, words are powerful. Do not personalize it. It's "the" cancer not "my" cancer 6) Be careful about what you say(your conversations), watch, read and to what you listen 7) Be very mindful about your conversations and the persons with whom you share the deep detail while on this leg of the journey. @@kanikagupta2456 NO ONE TALKS ABOUT - 1] what happens down the years with those hard medications. 2] Currently doctors’ practices changed to be standard typical treatments which they apply to every patient - They themselves do not know how to think outside the box. Which is harming so many people? 3] Many agriculture and meat contains Pesticides and now-a-days these type of things diseases like cancer and dementia, muscular, Tendonitis etc. are popping up like popcorn. Nobody is taking any action against those people who are providing these foods in market. Those who get the diseases - they get occupied with their internal health issues so their ability to fight gets limited with outside world. Those who survives for little longer they will think I have just touched near death experiences so let me live my life to fullest and matter for original cause of problems are not address. IN NJ they have found 500 plus cases of dementia in kids. Those kids parents should take action . This has become a game and for some doctors a play book game. I guess that is why they call they are practicing on you. At cost of your health they are practicing on you. 4] IT shocks me when doctors tell that all medicine has side effects and if you do not follow the rules which they created they cannot help. Clearly they do not want to think outside the box. 4] Radiation has so much issues with it - while taking even if you breathe it changes the position and wrong side get radiation - which means if you have on left side under you heart - your heart muscle can get damaged. Why can not do Open surgery to burn the lump or tumor etc....Why they are risking patients life to get damaged to other organs. WHY???? They are brain washing you with each medicine they put out in market - So pharma co makes profit at cost of your health.

I’m have been a healthcare professional for over 30 years. I had an abdominal surgery in 2008. I continued to have pain while recovering in the hospital. I was discharged after 3 days still in a lot of pain in a Sunday around 3pm only rushed back to the hospital at 10pm because I collapsed & couldn’t urinate & still in severe pain with every breath & movement I made. I was held in ER until 5am when the gynecologist came in & ask me why I didn’t call with my issues. I was very upset, I told him that I couldn’t pick up the phone to call 911, my 12 year old daughter called. I guess he was upset because that’s a bad for him & the hospital for a patient to return within 12 hrs. I was in the hospital for 14 days with a perforated bladder from a thermal burn. I had an ultrasound & CT scan every other day & the radiologist kept reporting negative for perforated bladder on every study. My diagnosis according to my gynecologist was UTI, even though the ER nurse catheterized me upon my arrival and got 500cc grossly bloody urine. I was in so much pain that I couldn’t advocate for myself & couldn’t communicate with my children because of the pain. The nurses said I was noncompliance because I didn’t want to walk or get out of bed because of the severity of the pain. Two nurses decided to force me out of bed to walk I was only 120 pound & 4’11”, being pulled out of bed & pleading to them that I’m in a lot of pain which they ignored. I blacked out from the pain. Finally on the 14th day a urologist was consulted & did a cystoscope and those results again was read by the radiologist with another negative results. Later that day the doctor came in and said that I had a perforated bladder and the films didn’t transfer to the PAC’s system which is radiology equipment. I was given only 1 Percocet for pain because the healthcare system always treat African Americans as though they are seeking pain medicine. Once the nurses found out I had a perforated bladder they apologized for getting me out of bed. A psychiatrist was consulted because they said I was depressed. He came in and asked me what type of work did I do at the hospital and before I could answer he said housekeeping, which was also an insult. I told him I wasn’t depressed but just in severe pain and couldn’t make any movements to eat or anything. My childhood friend came to visit me in the hospital & said I was groaning in so much pain that he went to the desk to tell the nurse to please give her something to knock her out. Everyone that knows me know that I’m a patients advocate but couldn’t advocate for me. This trauma that I went through still has affected me today in 2023 especially with my bladder. If I had passed away the doctors were going to lie to my kids. It happens all the time. When I left the hospital there was a nurse that said don’t let them getaway with this. She knew and others too the wrong that was done to me and the negligence. Thank God I’m better but still haunted by what happened to me, and I was an employee at one of the many hospitals this company has. Please be aggressive with your care. If you feel your body isn’t right follow up with your doctor. Do your research. I don’t have much trust in the healthcare system of today. Doctors are sometimes very dismissive. God bless everyone that going to through health issues. I put all of my trust in God🙏🏽

I believe you should advocate for yourself now. Sadly, you went through all of that, and then biases were thrown upon you. The HIPPI laws still apply “treated with dignity and respect. “ I was Dx last year with LGLL. Went for a second opinion and felt unheard. I changed doctors this year and still felt unheard and lost. My last spot was this month and I told them my concerns and what I would do if I am not heard again. Things changed for the better! 😊

I had the same issues as you, got a neobladder 10 years ago. Been cancer free ever since. But, I developed a fistula between my neo bladder and vagina and had excessive leaks. I lived with it first five years, then went to try to close us the fistula with surgery, it didn’t last a year. I just replaced my neobladder with a urostomy. It’s been four months, but I think it’s made my life so much easier. Wish I would have gotten the urostomy much sooner.

I got sick one day out the blue. The pain knocked me to my feet. I started vomiting and was taking to the hospital. They referred me to urologist because unspecified blood was found in urine. I had the ct scan done and the scope which both showed no sign of cancer. Still having a little pain but no blood this is an eye opener to not just let doctors dismiss what mconcerns you and your body. Thank you Ebony

As a veteran nurse and a woman with various challenging health problems, a therapist who I had been working with told me something no doctor NP, PA, DC or DO ever said to me before. He said “you are the expert on you”. It was tremendously liberating to finally be emancipated after so many others had never understood nor accepted that construct.

The reality is not as easy as we think..I’m dealing with 2 Dr. That only seems to care about collecting insurance payments for surgeries. As time is passing , my bladder cancer is going from low risk , 0 grade to 3 more high risk tumors and there isn’t discussions for treatment. ..What do Drs. are waiting for ? For my cancer to worsen . ? Now I’m going to see a new urologist on Oct. , I hope he cares and give a treatment to stop this disease from spreading 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I was diagnosed with stage 1 aggressive bladder cancer in March. I had no symptoms but also had blood in my urine but like yours was not visable . I had kidney stones in the past so l thought l had another stone but my urologist sent me for a CT scan which showed a tumor. It was removed but still needed treatments. I had 6 BCG treatments. & next week will have cycsosopy to see if any cancer has come back. This is so scary. Im so glad your husband is there helping & supporting you. Im hoping my cancer hasn't spread. Bless you l hope you will continue to improve.

My husband went to ER because he was having kidney stone pain. So they CAT scan and surprise, a tumor the size of a lemon! Went to urologist and surgery scheduled immediately. Surgery and at follow up, clear. 4 mos later, another check, cancer back. He said it was aggressive. Sent to cancer center and started clinical trial. He got Merck BCG treatment for the next 3 years. When he finished that it appears gone! So a couple more years of cystos and if he stays clear, he'll finally saybits gone. So good luck but it can be cured. Prayers for you.

Anyone with bladder cancer, or undiagnosed bladder issues.. I have a story for you.. Ebony, I am so glad you were able to finally get a diagnosis and treatment!!! I am not trying to hijack your story, just want to add more info for anyone who may be in the same situation... I have had bladder cancer twice! First time I was 33 years old. Mom with 2 little kids. Same thing, no tests showing anything. Non smoking, healthy, no other red flags! My only symptom was some blood in my urine. BUT I luckily had randomly chosen the BEST urologist! (I never went to the dr, was completely healthy so I didn't really even know where to go - picked a urologist from the phone book - this was back before the internet was as useful as it is now!) We also had no health insurance. Young, active, healthy and starting a new business - money needed elsewhere (boy did I learn a lesson!). It was a blessing, though. I did not have to wait for a referral or approval - I just went right to a specialist. And my urologist helped me find other doctors would take an uninsured patient. Because I was white and married, did not qualify for any govt assistance.. (another LONG story). Anyway, he never gave up. We had test after test. Over the course of 2 months I think I had a test/scan/scope/xray etc every week. My tumor was finally found with a strange xray where you have to take the xray 'as you pee'. Surgery scheduled and I credit that wonderful man (and God for sending me to that doctor!) to have saved my life! He never gave up. He was doing every single test in the book until he found out what was going on! I The tumor was of uracheal origin, but had broken into the bladder. So even though the source was not the bladder, its considered a bladder / urological cancer. The cancer I had was very rare, and I was lucky to have found it. However, my odds of survival were low.. Very LONG story short, tumor removed (I was able to keep my bladder even though the tumor had gone through all layers of the bladder wall)- radiation and chemo .. A few side effects have lingered from the chemo, but other than that I have been able to live a normal healthy life... 27 year cancer-free years later .. I was diagnosed with a different form of bladder cancer. Totally not related to the first. Still not a smoker, still healhty, but older now. In a way it was a blessing to have that instead of some other cancer, because I knew the signs to look for. Caught it early enough that the cancer had not even formed a tumor yet. After 2 weeks of blood in my urine, antibiotics did nothing.. I knew something was wrong! My Urologist is fantastic, Saw the suspicious cells during the cystoscopy. A week or so later (as soon as I could get all the pre op stuff done) I had surgery and he removed it and now I am doing BCG immunology treatments and outlook is good. Cancer is not a death sentence. Every person is different, and even if your odds of survival are low - dont give up! Keep fighting! If something feels weird, if you have unresolved medical issues, fight for yourself. You are the ONLY one who knows what is normal for you.. Go to as many doctors as need be. Find out what the issue is, so you can fight it! I have a channel where I talk about other things, but plan on doing a series about my entire cancer journey soon.

I’m so sorry you had to travel this long journey. In my 50’s I was lucky my bladder cancer was diagnosed very quickly thanks to a switched on doctor. Consequently my tumours were non invasive and contained in the bladder and could be removed fairly easily. My recovery was quick and I give thanks when I hear cases such as yours. This is a prime example why I always advocate to get a second opinion. Sometimes, you may have to get a third opinion. Things don't always show up on scans. It happens. I don't fault your doctor because nothing showed up on the scans. A doctor nor nurses are perfect. I am a nurse. We just try to do our best. A doctor usually looks at your tests and symptoms. If nothing is seen, what do we want them to do? I hate that it happened to you. However, I am glad that you are still here to talk about it!

I actually postponed it because my doctor said “maybe you’re just one of those people who have blood- it’s probably benign”. After hearing your story, I will make sure I undergo the test. Another bladder issue needs to be checked for and ruled in or out: Interstitial Cystitis. Orphan disease of the bladder. Mistaken for chronic UTI'S. It's an insidious little symptom presenter and a lot of urologists don't care to deal with it. Men can get it, too; but as with many other conditions, we girls/women tend to get it more so. We have to stand up for ourselves; we just have to. Ebony is one big inspiration.

Different folks with IC have their own individual outcomes. And there are no actual cures. It can affect daily life pretty unhappily. One of the biggest sacrifices in my case is sexually, because those organs down there are so close and connected. IC can cause flares of pain during and after sex--and the feeling of having to empty your bladder every five minutes for relief of discomfort. Uro-gynocologists are more prominent now, makes sense due to women's anatomies. Sorry to take up space about IC, but Ebony's story made me speak up!🙏👏🤗 And what she went through for the right diagnosis -- Time frame, I felt her frustration. It can take several specialists and tests to find the truth with urological symptoms.

My mother was misdiagnosed with a UTI for one year . She was in her early 70's had no other health problems what so ever. She had blood in her urine and burning upon urination. Once diagnosed with bladder cancer they removed the bladder and gave her a urostomy bag. They didn't give her any chemo etc so the cancer came back a year later. Then they gave her chemo therapy and radiation because it had spread. She ended up dieing a year or so later and her journey with chemo was horrendous. You are so blessed to be here and I am so happy that you are sharing your story with others... ladies/gentlemen if a uti doesn't go away within a couple weeks insist that your doctor check you for bladder cancer and don't take no for a answer.

My cancer was also not diagnosed for almost a year and a half despite all the signs. All it took eventually was a CT scan that picked up my cancer. By that time it had gone to Stage 4. I was diagnosed with non hodgkins lymphoma. I was treated successfully but cancer returned after 18 months. I had more intensive treatment ending with stem cell transplant. Horrible side effects - I would not wish this on anyone. I never used to go to the doctor but when I started feeling unwell I was seeing him often. I was losing a lot of weight, having night sweats, losing hair, could not eat a lot and any mouthfuls I managed to eat did not stay in me for long as I was being sick. Doctors need to keep up to date with the symptoms of cancers so treatment can be given quickly.

I am having a dull abdominal pain on my left side and I have women incontinence issues for years, so my primary doctor suggested that I do exercise to help strengthen my bladder - kegel exercises and I will but I am going to see a urologist to make sure that I don’t have an infection or something worse is wrong. I do believe the doctors are practicing physicians and I have been telling my family this for years. Nobody knows your body better than you when something is off and not right. Self cathertisation is not a nice thing to do, infact its evasive & can cause pain & frequent UTI's. When I had my cystoscopy, I watched the t.v monitor & we instantly saw my 4 bladder tumors. You shouldn't have had to wait for any results!

I was laying in my bed & came across your page. I just went to urologist 1/22/24 due to microscopic blood in urine. I had a cystoscopy. He said I have a small tiny stone on left kidney that just sit there but sending me to have another scan 1/25/24. And said he look at me in 6 months. I came out of the bathroom & showed my sister the toilet paper which had a very faint look of diluted watermelon juice on it, and immediately told her "i have bladder cancer". I can completely relate to your situation. I had a pelvic tumor at 16 and 20. Due to radiation in 1990 it destroyed my bladder and I had inlander leakage and inflammation in the bladder. In 1995 I had the Indiana Pouche which sounds a lot like what you had done. They removed my bladder and made a new bladder out of bowel and connected by kidneys to the new bladder and I have a pencil size hole of my right side. I cath myself and have had a few complications over the years. It is still the best decision I made. You don’t realize how quick you used to release your bladder versus now. I was getting bladder infections symptoms and would have to be on sulfate meds every 2-3 weeks and it was miserable plus dealing with the leakages. The Indians pouche was the best decision I made and it’s been 28 years. When I had my surgery in 1995 there was only 1 doctor who did that kind of surgery and he had only been doing it for 10 years. I’m glad it’s becoming more available as an option. Thank you for sharing your journey.🙂

I’ve had bladder cancer three times. My only symptom was blood in my urine-a lot of blood! No pain, no discomfort or fever. I was at my doctor’s office the next day. When he saw my urine sample, he immediately called another doctor who agreed to wait for me after office hours. That was on a Tuesday; I had surgery on Thursday. Because my doctor listened to me and acted immediately, it was caught early before it had invaded the bladder wall. I watched the surgery and saw the tumor before it went to pathology. It was the size of a man’s thumb, Two years later, it returned. Same symptom. Same procedure. This time it was the size of a man’s finger knuckle. Once again it came back. The size of a pencil eraser. I had yearly checkups for twelve years. The last surgery was over 25 years old; I just celebrated my 80th birthday. I’ve moved three times since then and every doctor I’ve seen asked me if I ever smoked. I had for ten years but had given it up 18 years before the cancer. I learned that smoking is the biggest cause of bladder cancer, even if you’ve given it up decades ago.

I was diagnosed with stage 2 Urine bladder cancer in late 2019. I was 67 years old. Underwent chemo & Radiation. Cancer was gone in Jan 2020,. It came back in June of 2020. My urologist wanted to remove my bladder. I said NO WAY. I opted for alternative medicine and change of life style. Did a lot of research and found some potential alternatives options. (1). I am taking kyolic Aged Garlic Extract supplement. (2) drink vegetable (celery + cucumber) juicing to protect my liver+ kidney. (3) use frankincense essential oil, orally and topically. (4). Get high dose IV vitamin C. As much as 50 grams per session, twice a week. Sometimes less. By July 2022,. I had cystoscopy and had biopsy on my bladder and prostate. Negative in both bladder cancer and prostate. To prevent the tumor from coming back and spreading, I am still doing the above mentioned therapy. But my IV vit C infusion is just 30 grams per session, every 10 days. I am telling you this to open your eyes to other less expensive alternative cure and very effective with no bad side effects. Even though her cancer is in remission, there is a high probability that the cancer ceiis will come back within the next five years. Hence, it is advisable that she take supplements to boost her immune system. She should take the Kyolic Aged Garlic Extract AGE capsule regularly and take lots of vitamin C (oral or IV). This AGE can prevent or reduce the incidence of polyp in our colons and tumor in bladder.

I have had bladder problems forever. I'm in my 60s, and I'm going to a urologist who's 76 years old, and he's in demand because he's the best. My appointment is in October to get scoped, but I'm constantly having UTI, so you have definitely helped me with my fears, sweetie, and you're so young to be facing this. Congrats for fighting and overcoming this difficult experience and thank you for your testimony to help others who will have to go through the same. You’re a wonderful women and I wish you and your family all the best. Had a bladder cancer too that was about to invade the muscle wall and a gross hematuria helped to diagnose the problem just in time. That was my luck and I manage to keep my bladder but I feel you.. thank you and be blessed.
