Great video! Just to add, PTH also promotes phosphorus homeostasis by increasing the resorption of phosphate from bone and reducing reabsorption of phosphate in the kidney (thus promoting its excretion in the urine).

Thank you so much Doctor , for being so kind to answer me. I'm going to really enjoy watching your videos, I'm trying to help my child in Anatomy. You do make it clear to understand . It regulates our Calcium inside our blood to make bones stronger. So we are able to absorb the Calcium and vitamin D to help our bones not to break or fracture also what is the count of the Parathyroid hormones are we suppose to have in our bodies to help absorb and regulate the proper amount of Calcium and vitamin D in our blood stream ? Sorry for so many questions . Thank you so much for Answering my questions .

I'd like to point out that the parathyroid hormone does not increase the activity of the osteoclasts directly. It acts on the osteoblasts to increase their uptake of calcium from the surrouding bone matrix and releasing it in the blood. And it's also the osteoblasts that acticate the osteoclasts. So it's more of an indirect effect.

Majdi I have recently done lab work. My PTH is double what it should be. My prolactin is also triple what it should be. I know adenoma is a possibility. I'm worried. I go get my Prolactin level done again tomorrow to see if it's still elevated if it is I have to go for an MRI of my brain. I'm just nervous. I don't see any simple reasons my PTH and Prolactin would be that elevated.

If PTH increases blood calcium level, shouldn't the kidneys cause reabsorption of calcium to bring calcium into the blood? Shouldn't the gut do the same thing, cause reabsorption of calcium, to release it into the blood? On the diagram it says kidney absorption and gut absorption.

Is parathyroid a gland or a disease ? Thyroid I know produces hormones but is Parathyroid gland caused blood in bones and intestines which would be like bleeding internally . What I am asking is the parathyroid gland a normal gland in our bodies to help absorb proper nutrition to our bodies that everyone has. Or is Parathyroid a disease in the Thyroid ? Can someone answer my question because I'm very confused not knowing very much about Anatomy ?

There are four tine parathyroid glands located on the posterior side of the thyroid gland; they are physiologically normal components of neck anatomy.
