An ascent of Parchermo (6,273m) in Nepal, we trekked in from Namche via Thame and placed our camp just below the Tesi Lapcha. We then walked out through the Rolwaling valley.

Greta video Richard! I'm heading to cross Tashi labsta this season, and I was wondering if you needed to rope up on the glacier at all? I'm planning to go solo but if there's much crevasse risk I'll hire a guide. I'm a big fan of your blue mountains canyon videos! They're great for assessing conditions, I always check your channel for beta before going canyoning.

Hi Elliott, thanks for the message. Well, we were there late in the season (November), the glacier was bare with no snow cover so the the crevasses were visible. We didn't feel that we needed to rope-up. I guess the decision of roping-up depends on the conditions at the time. Right now (September), it's towards the end of the monsoon season, so there should be much more snow cover than I experienced, as a result, you'll need to exercise caution and assess the conditions there. It's possible you might meet another team on your trek that you can rope-up with for the crossing? Otherwise, you might be able to employ a local experienced guide with in Beding (Rolwaling side) or Thame (Khumbu side) - we stayed in a teahouse in both Beding and Thame owned by climbing sherpas with multiple Everest summits each. Hope that helps, Rich.

Hi there, could you please tell us when you summited Pacherma? We just finished doing it and we had to use fixed ropes because the climbing way was mainly blue ice and too dangerous to do it in alpine style. Thanks for answering

Hi, I climbed Parchermo a few years ago, I suppose the conditions change with the season and recent weather, plus glacier recession and climate change would have reduced some of the snow/ice in the few years between. Safe climbing :) Richard.
