I’m 16. I took my mom’s 2017 Sienna to school on a very foggy morning and was hit by a pick up head on at 55mph, I walked away with a small fracture in my hand and a mild concussion both from the airbags. Four years prior my eldest brother was run off of a dirt road and rolled our 2011 Sienna and his only injury was a bruise from his seatbelt. The Toyota sienna is the reason both of us are alive today. They kept my parents from having to bury their children. You don’t have to be a parent to own a minivan. I don’t have children, but I bought a minivan because it is far more practical then a SUV and roomier then a car. I can haul stuff in my minivan that a SUV can’t. In fact my minivan can almost haul anything that a truck can haul. I said almost because if it is too tall or long you will need a truck. A minivan is the best vehicle you can own. They are comfortable and roomy. I don’t care what other people think and I don’t care about driving a SUV just because it’s the in thing. I'm on my 2nd Sienna AWD and plan on getting the 2021 for the style, reliability, and mpg. I always remove the middle seats, stow the rear, throw in a couple of mattresses, ice chest, drybox, couple gravity chairs, and away we go. Under the mattresses, I keep an ax, hatchet, machete, tree saw, large tarp, and 100' mule tape. I've also had a towbar installed so I can attach a cargo carrier and bike rack. The advantage of a minivan over an RV is it's more versatile going deep into forests and boondocking is never a problem. We've stayed in neighborhoods sometimes as a last resort.
@TheSchwiz3 жыл бұрын
Of course you don’t. But statistically speaking you’re an outlier. I have a sienna but got it after we had multiple kids. Is it way way way way more practical than a 3 row SUV in nearly every category? YES. But when the kids are done. We will not be replacing it with another.
@PWCDN3 жыл бұрын
I won't have kids nor plan to and I want a minivan. I want to be able to haul my 2 folding e-bikes (60lbs each, no bike rack can carry them) and camping equipment for 2-4 people. I looked at equivalent priced crossovers/SUV's and you're literally paying the same price for less vehicle excluding vanity reasons. I totally see your point. At the same time, you have the option to haul 7 adults comfortably whenever you need. Only thing I can see as a negative is parallel parking. When comparing a Sienna to a Highlander, I really don't see the point of the latter other than aesthetics.

AWD in this Sienna is all electric and thus it has almost no penalty on highway, and only 1 mpg in city - that is as low as it gets for AWD. And with AWD you can get out of snow, gravel, sand in cases when you might get stuck with FWD. Also helps climb that slippery, snowy hill when needed and helps in turns and acceleration too. Whole system weighs only 100lbs and is very handy to have and will help in resale when time comes. The only negative is $2k you need to pay over FWD. So yeah, I'm thinking about it too, but I'm leaning towards AWD.

Just about to transition out of a 2009 Toyota Sienna XLE Limited FWD with 150,000 miles as kids grown up. Was a great family hauler, and when seats are down it turns into a moving van. I've moved landscape material, sheets of plywood, even a loveseat when child moved to apartment. Only issues were the auto sliding doors stopped working at about 120,000 miles, so now they're manual which is no biggie, and it goes through brakes a bit quicker than I'd like. If it was better on gas I'd just keep driving it as I think it would drive another 100,000 miles easily. Liked a different review that called it a living room on wheels, which is so true. Having a hard time leaving it, V6 power, spacious, luxury ride compared to most new compact SUVs, actually better handing than a Range Rover I tested. If I was just having kids now I would totally buy this hybrid Sienna (or the Hybrid Highlander if I didn't need as much room).

This is just my personal opinion and my personal experience only. I bought a van last year and as I drove during the evening I noticed I had to tilt the steering wheel to the right in order for the van to go straight. I thought it might've been the road but it wasn't. Took it back to the dealership and they were super nice and super awesome. They fixed it but as I was driving home it did it again. The technician who worked on my van came out and he test drove it and he agreed that somehow this alignment issue came back. They were so kind enough to changed the van for me to a brand new one but it had the same issue. They contacted their partner dealership to bring one to their location but asked to check the steering wheel on it. Soon we get a phone call back saying it too had the same issue. The dealership was kind enough to refund the van for us. I have been to so many dealerships in my life time but no dealership comes close. They were the nicest and kind people. Anyway, I went to another dealership after several month later and test drove one and that too had the same issue. Hopefully they fixed the issue now.

I'm a 40yo male with no family and I own a AWD Toyota Sienna. I use it as a maintenance van, I don't need to much space for my tools, so the Sienna is perfect. I removed all seats except the front seats. Before that I owned Honda Odyssey and it did 260K miles before I sold it. Minivans rule.

Plenty of older couples, who have no children at home, love minivans. They love the seat height and find it easy to get in and out. Much easier than a car. Older couples like the sliding doors...which SUVs don't have.

It is big… we started driving Sienna in 1998, here in Canada there’s a confidence you get in a Minivan, Truck, SUV or CUV for winter driving. I still can’t get my wife to look at a car, there’s no way she’s getting in one in the winter. I currently have a CRV and Santa Fe XL, I would definitely trade one in for a Sienna Hybrid. But a Model 3? No way… Model Y is still a little small… when prices become reasonable and there’s EV Infrastructure in place I would consider though. In Canada the Sienna gets 6.5L/100 km on FWD and 6.7L on AWD combined City/Highway

“But I don’t think you’re really too concerned about power are you?” ... Uh YES, actually. Why wouldn’t I want good power in a 7 or 8 passenger vehicle? This idea that minivans don’t deserve or don’t need healthy power is absurd. Maybe more family men would sign off on owning one if they weren’t so damn lacking. Oh wait, the odyssey has a nice robust engine. That’s what I chose.

52, Male, Zero Kids, Tons of bicycles, Owned 6 mini vans in the past of which rear seats were used about 0.01% of the time (rear seats unloaded into the garage on day 1 of ownership, reinstalled to sell). It saddens me that minivans have such stereotypical appeal, especially now that 3 row SUV's are being purchased by so many people who are turned off by Minivans. This van could be perfect if: all rear seats were easily removed (Element Style please), Ground clearance increased (this thing is basically an AWD snow plow) and less electronic bells and whistles. Please Toyota, just give us in North America an AWD HiAce (the van they sell in most of the rest of the world).

I was shocked to see the tow hitch on your model. We were told that even though they are listed as an option, they are not actually available. We traded in a 2011 Sienna with 239,000 miles for a 2021 XLE. We are a little disappointed in the gas mileage, BUT 90% of our miles are highway at 75 mph and we are averaging 31-32, still good compared to 20-22 before. The behind-3rd-row cargo space is actually about 10% less than the previous model. I don't care about the 2nd row seats not being removable because I have four kids and would never remove them. I changed a setting on the lane departure feature and it's much better now.

I used to drive a 1985 Toyota Supra for 23 years until I have kids, needed a minivan. Mercury Villager, Mazda MPV didn’t last long then came a wonderful long lasting 2005 Toyota Sienna still runs great at 325K miles. A fourth Generation Toyota Sienna has been added, a very good gas mileage vehicle with modern safety technology but interior design is not as good as the 2005 Sienna. Seat fabrics, seat design, cup holders, interior lighting are not as good designed as the older Sienna.
