It's sounds like her parents' mindset is to enjoy their money before they die & leave nothing on the table. It's fine if they don't want to leave an inheritance for their kids... it's their money to use as they see fit. However, they're burning through it way too quickly & putting themselves on the road to becoming dependent upon their kids (and/or taxpayers and charities) pretty soon. Their math just doesn't compute. Sad for the kids.

A. Smith That's not his problem. Children don't choose to be born; his parents chose to make that decision. They chose to spend their money on children and it was their responsibility to care for them. When you're a parent, your children being happy and healthy is your reward. Personally my momma was an amazing one before she passed and I still wish I could've bought her a house; however, I don't have to do that. It would be a great thing to show appreciation to your parents but how you show it is up to you and no, you don't owe them anything.

They wanted to take a trip to Australia after the death of their youngest child?🤨 shouldn’t they be grieving instead of going on vacation?
@JessicaO490Z5 жыл бұрын
@@leilanidru7506 sitting at home staring at your walls in misery is not grieving. Grieving takes many forms. If Australia meant something special it's a way to bring meaning to your life that suddenly feels turned inside out. If it was just to some where to do touristy things then it was probably escapism. So say you're in that position, first you can find out if Australia is on their bucket list or a spontaneous pick. Then if you can't afford to help you can have them trouble shoot, why this place, why now, and is there a cheaper substitute. If it's to get away from everything that reminds them of their dead child a cheaper toad trip might work, or a cruise that's a bargain. If their house is full of memories that hurt too much right now, it might help more to spend a week visiting/staying with each of their other adult children. Help reinforce those connections to children that are still alive (that likely will help the grieving siblings too). so you see it's more than just, no I can't give you money for a very expensive vacation mom and dad. when you get to the root of why you can find other solutions that don't cost an arm and a leg. Or saying you have a 100K or more in the bank you might decideit's worth the money to help your grieving parents. Either way people need to stop putting narrow structures on what constitutes proper grieving. it's not sitting on a couch sad for 3 years trapped with people avoiding you. Often are very different reactions, including being more desperate about your bucket list, clinging deeper to those around you that are still alive, etc.
@leilanidru75065 жыл бұрын
Jessica Olson I wasn’t trying to restrict what grieving should mean to people. And if was for a sentimental reason that meant a lot to the kid of a family then of course that’s a form of grieving. But if they were hitting their son up for money to have a summer vacay in a luxurious Sydney resort that takes a bit of a different tone. But ur right it’s subjective🤷🏾♀️

My answer is always the same "no one has asked you for anything, just don't leave any debt and take care of it, your expensive car and your mortgage that is only 300e/month when you could easily afford more than double that". He doesnt get it, as expensive as it is to raise a kid, i was raised in a country with free healthcare and education, so their expenses where not like they would be in the States. At age 15 i started making little money and while i went to high school and university i worked evenings and weekends, i paid my bachelors and my masters degree while living abroad and my husband and i have never had debt, or a loan to pay.Yet he comes with this, i don't expect to inheritate any money, never did i ever think of that, but just don't leave your financial mess for that sports car, your not needed first class flights when you go on holiday or your drinking habits to your daughter.

Imagine learning your doctor (of any kind) was desperately broke. Scary!

Let them do what they want. They are adults. They're your parents. They should not be asking their children for money. Especially if he was a dentist what in the world he didn't even plan for retirement? I would not bail them out no.

If you're worried your parents will lose their home, talk to your siblings about saving some money for that now. In the future the three of you can buy a small condo for them - preferably with cash. BUT do not give it to them,. The three of you own it and let them live there for free. That means they can't take money from it to spend irresponsibly, and it belongs to the three of you when they pass away.

They need to get a reverse mortgage. It's a terrible option, but they didn't make plans for owning their house or funding their retirement. Bad options are all that's left.
@dc763844 жыл бұрын
Sounds like mom and dad cant afford the mortgage any longer, so they want to dump the house...which will prolong the inevitable.

Debbie's siblings clearly are the one with brains because they won't mess with the parents house nonsense while Debbie was stupid enough to care enough call Dave on something she shouldn't ever even consider. If the father was a dentist making mountains of cash and now have nothing to show for no retirement no nothing, then Debbie needs to grow up and stop trying to help people who're beyond help.

All for looking after parents. All for older people finishing bt off and using up their money if that's what they choose...NOT AT ALL for parents just blowinng it to the point of putting unnecessary stress on their kids and grandkids.

Its a business transaction. Treat it as a purchase of a house you would rent. And charge them rent. . reverse mortgage = 0 value left when they try to get out of it or when they die... . These old people are in a pit they dug for themselves.

They may now see they can not afford to live in the family home with all the memories and regret it.

let them get a reverse mortgage.............they will not change their handling of money

I would have bought them out. I would have told them we are managing your money 💵 because we don't want you to be homeless. Sometimes we have to cut back on something. My parents tell us we don't tell you girls how we are doing money-wise because we have to take care of ourselves.

Reverse mortgages sound scammy and very risky. They sound irresponsible.

The kids needs to pay $120k for house worth $350k. They must pay it because they will inherit the house when parents are gone.

If they lived another 15 years that’s just over 1,000 a month extra if they were smart and broke it down like that so they don’t spend it all quick. I would take the 190k to buy a tri-plex, live in one apartment and rent the other 2. If you make 1500-2000 a month that’s more than the 200k broken up over 15 years then you still have a property.

Why buy a house over $300,000 and not have it paid off by the time they turn 70?! If they make good money then spend it to own your assets before you retire? Shouldn't that always be a life plan and have some leftover money to life off of for retirement? Or just live with less..
@jamesk88914 жыл бұрын
Tell them to sell the house and put it into a index fund then buy a cheap camper van (not a $50-60k one a cheap cheap one) or they could buy a super cheap property America is full of them then they can just use your address / the new address or a PO box for mail and will have enough money for food and basics from the dividends but something tells me this won’t be enough for there “lifestyle “ well tough they had there life and spent there money there not in a position they will be made homeless unless they choose to be I wouldn’t buy it / pay there mortgage for them as what’s to say they won’t just downsize then keep the leftover money for “living expenses “
