im pleasantly suprised about your opinion on fortnite. when mainstream media channels cover topics like this, they are typically looking for a good news story, warrenting less research, and many assumptions. im happy that you took the time to revew the game, and do your research, because fortnite isnt as bad as the news says it is. it is very nonviolent, and safe for kids of many ages.

I play fortnite with my kids. They play in the living room and I play along with them. They are not allowed to make friends outside our household and they are not allowed to chat to anyone or hear their voices. This is the agreement if they want to play it. There are so many different levels and things to do a lot without weapons. As a parent I suggest downloading it check out the setting options and play a few different rounds of different levels.

I'm a parent, I'm the real deal, I'm an old man, and I got the gray hairs and stuff. I'm looking for some perspective here. Hopefully I can get some responses from gamers of all different ages, cause I'm having a bit of a problem. I'd really love to hear from the female gamers cause my ex-wife is using the "woman" card, and speaking for all women on the planet (I HATE when she does that)! Apologies in advance if this gets long... Now me personally I'm not a gamer, I grew up with them though, so I do remember the joy of getting a new game. The Legend of Zelda for the NES will always be my favorite, but I also really liked Mike Tyson's Punch Out. My interest in games died out in the mid 90's when I was in High School, and I never really became interested in them again. My ex-wife told me that one of the most attractive things about me was that I didn't play video games. She really hates them, and she gets turned off by men playing children's games (these are her words, not mine). Now I'm divorced and my ex-wife takes the opposite position of whatever position I take. But I already knew the gaming thing was gonna be an issue if it ever came up. My son is getting into gaming and he wants Fortnight so he can play with all his friends. I'm all for it, but my ex-wife is fighting me on it. She says ridiculous shit like it'll turn him into an incel, or what if he wants to be one of those professional streamers. I'm like there are literally millions of gamers, and even girl gamers and I'm pretty sure not all of them are incels. And if our son can figure out a way to get paid for doing something that he loves, then haven't we done something right as parents? I don't know, I just don't see the big deal for a kid playing this game, or any others. This game has actually brought my son and I closer together cause from his point of view I'm fighting for him. His mom thinks that it's gonna turn him into this fat, smelly, undatable monster. She keeps playing the woman card saying "trust me, no pretty girl is going to want to date a grown man that plays video games all day". My son isn't even a teenager yet, so I don't know where this is coming from. I'm tired of my ex-wife telling me that the only reason I'm for this is cause I want to be the "cool" dad. Like any kids actually think that their dad is cool. I know I'm always gonna be lame in my son's eyes, and that's fine as long as he respects me. Being the cool dad is the furthest thing from my mind, I just don't want my son missing out on things, especially things that his group of friends are bonding over. She keeps insisting that these games make people obese, and that's just intellectual dishonesty. Of course I want my son to be healthy, and to have balance in his life. I don't want him on the computer all day, everyday, but setting rules and boundaries is what we're here for as parents. IDK I just don't think these games are as big a deal as my ex-wife is making them out to be. I feel she's out of touch on this one, cause gaming has grown to the point that it's the new normal. I think making him the only one in his group of friends to not be gaming is what will alienate him, not the other way around. Am I right? Like I said I would really love some perspective here, cause it's hard to see the forest from the trees. Thanks in advance!

I'll be honest as a dad myself, in this day and age, you can't really get around it as these games are everywhere. Yes, the kids can get isolated but if we as parents are doing our jobs, we enforce the breaks from the screen (KZbin included), focus on studies, monitor those who they contact (family only) and keep tabs on the spending, there should be no issue. Fortnite is the 'big thing' for my son and it is preferable to other games which are hyper-realistic (blood, headshot imagery, gun representation etc). Also it is something that I can bond with my son over; after all it's his world now!
