“My wife thinks I was being too hard on her. And I should at least think about it.” The wife needs to stay in her lane. What is it with spouses feeling sorry for a person who clearly treated the OP badly? I’m sure OP has told her his story and she still tried to guilt him into taking his mom in?? Like? Seriously??
@gotenblack25429 күн бұрын
because the mother puts the act like Shes sorry and changed etc. the wife gets blinded by that and sides with the mom and not the op who suffered a lot through his life

I reckon it's because the spouses have only heard the story but didn't live through the situation. I believe this can be applied to a lot of stories as well

It reads like OP's parents were really stellar examples of the human condition. Like OP said, they deserved each other and, if they got divorced, they would certainly find some unfortunate and ignorant innocents to inflict themselves upon. So, yeah, this is a win-win scenario for all sides. With luck, the next time they have a falling out, it will not suck OP into the mess.

I sincerely hope that OP and their wife continue to enjoy this happy and healthy relationship. They had a difference of opinion, but didn't let it devolve into name calling or passive-aggressive fighting. They sat down and discussed it like adults. These good, decent young people deserve each other just as much as OP's mother and father deserve each other.

OMG, the karma in this story is GLORIOUS! I guess someone up there really listened to OP's prayers of horrible things happening to them: she gets cheated on and forced to live with him despite that, and the cheater also got cheated and will have to settle for the wife who won't let him forget that he's a cheater. Glorious. They really deserve each other.

Me either. His mom sounds like mine and yes I've gone no contact but I had in the past tried to have a relationship with her. Impossible. Some people I went to middle and high school with reach out via social media from time to time one of them always says "but she's your mom" "how can u not see or talk to her" "omg I cant go without my mom" it makes me so angry when he does that. If he had the sense of a rock he'd cut his unfit mom off too. She abandoned him at 4 with strangers in California had 6 kids with 6 different men none would stay the only reason my classmates made it back to Louisiana was pure devine intervention. His dad had a brother in the army he saw the kid with a group of hippies high on something so he gave one of them money to get the boy and brought him back home but took him to the grandparents home where he stayed until he was 11 then had to go back to a 2 room apartment and 5 other kids. Some people are not parents they don't deserve anything that comes with being a parent. His mom is one of those types of people and I think he handled perfectly.

@bekleedee8 күн бұрын
Because they never want to admit to their mistakes and faults. Or they genuinely don't believe they've done anything wrong. My situation with one of my parents is that they don't like admitting they were wrong and what they did was wrong. But there's a lot of people who really don't think they did anything bad in the first place. That's got to be really frustrating

"My wife thinks I was too hard on her. And I should give her another chance." If that's the way she feels, wife can go live with MiL and they can support each other through out their divorces. But I'm the type to advocate for scorched earth after a betrayal. After updates: I'm glad that OP and his wife worked things out. Of course the two narcissists ended up back together.
@jharris32677 күн бұрын
NTA! What you did was epic! Tell your wife to step to the left. She’s worried about a stranger? When kids go no contact there is a reason. Don’t be so quick to judge. As for your wife sorry you lost your parents but that doesn’t give you a pass. Be loyal you don’t know her you know your husband. If my husband had cursed someone out I would have helped. You should’ve thrown salt at her!
@princessmarlena13594 күн бұрын

As the son ot a father that appatently was really nice and caring with kids, i can confirm that it is ABSOLUTELY NOT a "green flag" to choose a partner. So please, dont base your choice on that kind of image.
@Maria-wi1pj8 күн бұрын
THIS. Just because someone is good with children doesn't mean they'll be good parents. And just because someone is a good person doesn't mean they're good parents. It sound hypocritical but it's true. Someone can be nice and still be a horrible parent (I'm not talking about op's parents specifically since, in their case, it seems that they were also horrible people who used orders and discharged them when they weren't useful anymore)
@jonix24mejor8 күн бұрын
@@Maria-wi1pj yeah. in my case, my mother said that one of the reasons she picked my father was because when he worked at a School, he was really nice with the students and a good bunch of them really liked him, he even was very kind and warm to my mother's nieces and nephews. It was a really big surprise for everyone that, once my brother and i started to grow up, he really cared a lot more about himself than us. At some points in life he even make us feel as if we were some kind of bother to him, and for as long as we studied at the same school where he worked, we never understood why so many people seem to appreciate him so much, cause we never fully saw his good side (not to mention that he cared more about his reputation at the school, than about our well-being).

Hearing so, many of these stories always reminds me of the fact that a lot of people actually WANT to go to college
@laurenevers86446 күн бұрын
But can't because the cost of a college degree nowadays is the equivalent of someone who makes $30,000 a year wanting like, a tesla or ferrari. If someone ever tried to do that the salespeople would laugh you out of the parking lot, and yet society expects people to pay that much for a college degree if they ever want to have their dream job that still pays you so little that you'd be working off the college debt for decades. That's why my sister and I are instead looking at getting certifications to advance in the careers we want. Or maybe I'll pay to get certified in medical coding to save up for the cheapest bachelor's I can find.
@dragoniccrab5 күн бұрын
@@laurenevers8644 I personally dont want to do college as a whole. I'm only attending community college because of an altematum I was given. story 1: I think it's good to give dish served cold to the parents. However I am concerned that this vengeful behavior would become a generational issue that OP would deliver to his own children. He needs to be extra mindful of that.
@alexisg78778 күн бұрын
I'm glad it sounds like OP and his wife resolved their issues eventually, but not gonna lie, fuck the wife. I can't stand when the partner (husband or wife) goes "Oh but have mercy!!!" On someone from Op's past who very much did not treat Op right. It's like, don't you care about your partner? About their wellbeing? Unless your partner has specifically voiced wanting to reconcile/make up with a person from their past, you don't fucking push your partner to try and be nice to someone who wasn't nice to them. I get that she just lost her parents, but that still doesn't change the fact she knows Op's mom wasn't a great person. You can grieve and still support your partner.

The way the mother phrases that should show that they never took responsibility. They never acted like parents and showed the child love. Luckily what the OP told them sounded like karma or him telling them their future. His wife knows about his issues with his parents and she had issues with hers. I know that it's hard to move past when parents pass away but it's not her parents it's his.
