Parents Surprise Daughter with Dog she had been caring for at shelter.

So, here’s the story. Our daughter Hallee Fuqua has been asking for a dog for Christmas for years. We told her she should wait until after she graduates college. She began volunteering at the Humane Society of Stillwater. She fell in love with a dog named Rambo and visited him often. My wife and I decided to secretly adopt him 3 weeks ago. With the help from the Humane Society we kept it a secret. She found out this weekend that Rambo had been adopted and she was broken. So Sunday night we surprised her with her early Christmas present. We captured the moment on video. I never wanted a dog. And then, last year we went to the shelter to look for a dog for my friend. She found herself a great friend there. There was only one BUT... BUT the dog that stole her heart had a brother,a bit bigger than her, very timid, scared and stubborn and with a pretty nasty hip dysplasia,but at the same time very fragile, sad and depressed as he already knew nothing else will happen to him. That's the way my cat was to me when we first met. He picked me and he is my devil child. I love my little devil. Then you choose the time of day and dates via their volunteer website. I love to comfort the bigger nervous dogs that may intimidate some people, but they are just confused and somewhat frightened! It’s very fulfilling when a frightened dog lets his guard down and trusts again

Dogs just know, i don't know how they know but they know, When we got our Jack russell Derek, he was a rescue dog and he looked all sad, even when we picked him up he seemed sad, im not kidding the instant we got out of the car at home and opened the front door he went batshit crazy like he realised at that moment that this is his new home and he has a new family, my wife went inside and i went to park the car around the corner, when i came back just 2-3 minutes later, the moment i put the key in the door he came running downstairs barking and continued to bark at me when i walked in as though to say "get out my house hooman!" I was like excuse me! i live here! he and ran off and continued to go batshit crazy, that first night we were sitting on the sofa watching tv and he jumped up between us and just flopped on his back, paws stretched out and fell asleep, we ended up falling asleep on the sofa with him that night. He just knew.

I always wonder if maybe the smell of a home- the smell of a family in one central place, helps dogs realize that they’re being brought into the family den, that they’re accepted and desired in this place? I wonder if they have their own symbolism with that concept, something almost universal for dogs? If you’ve lived in a place for a while your smell is sure to saturate the place, discreetly marking it as yours. I wonder if that registers to them when the doors open and the smell of human habitation reaches them? Or if they understand that this is a very different place than a shelter even by the structure itself? When we adopt a animal we always ask the shelter to show us the dogs/cats that have been at the shelter the longest. I have a cat called Macavity who we saved from a shelter & i have had her for 3 1/2 years & still follows me every where i go at home & sleeps ON ME every night.
