Not South-African, Southern African... Rhodesia got splitted as Zambia & Zimbabwe.. I had one here in Africa... It is also called as Lion hunter... Very agressive, very very loyal dog breed... difficult to train as they are not afraid of getting beaten... No skin problems, no climatic isssues, drink less water, like to eat food many times in small quantities in a day... If you give more food he will dig it in soil... like to jump over the 1.8M high compound wall and also he like to sleep on top of the cage... Broke the chain many times... Very aggressive against other animals, especially other dogs... He didn't run away even after getting injured by the thieves...I was not at home at that time... Still he fought until he was brutally killed by them... The best ever guard dog I had seen so far...only problem is highly aggressive...if he decide to do something he will do it for sure... So in my opinion not good for houses with small compound walls and not having strong people to take care of them...
