Karighatta is a hill situated a few kilometres outside the 'island' town of Srirangapatna. It is situated off the Bangalore-Mysore Highway just before Srirangapatna in Karnataka state of India.The hill has a Hindu temple devoted to a form of Hindu god Vishnu, called “Karigirivasa”. This deity is also referred to as “Lord Srinivasa” and is also called “Bairagi Venkataramana”.
ಕರಿಘಟ್ಟ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರೇಕ್ಷಣೀಯ ಸ್ಥಳ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ ಒಂದು ಪವಿತ್ರ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವೂ ಹೌದು. ಇದು ಮೈಸೂರಿನಿಂದ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುವ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀರಂಗಪಟ್ಟಣ ಆದ ನಂತರ ಸುಮಾರು ಮೂರು ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಲಬದಿಗೆ ಇದೆ. ಇದೊಂದು ಸುಮಾರು ೩೦೦ ಅಡಿ ಎತ್ತರದ ಬೆಟ್ಟ. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ದರ್ಭೆ ಹುಲ್ಲು ತುಂಬ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀನಿವಾಸ ದೇವರ ಒಂದು ಗುಡಿ ಇದೆ. ಇದರ ರಥ್ಸೋವವು ಫಾಲ್ಗುಣ ಶುಕ್ಮ ಹುಣ್ಣಿಮೆಯಂದು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ.

Dear Parichaya, thanks for showing and telling the details of Karighatta Srinivas temple. It is a Hindu temple in place called Kallikoppalu. It is a hill situated few kms outside the island town of Srirangapatna. It is situated off the Bangalore Mysuru highway just before Srirangapatna in Karnataka. The name Karigiri or Karighatta translates to Elephant hill. In Kannada Kari means Elephant and Giri means hill. This hill has a Hindu temple ( Sri Vaishnava temple) devoted to a form of Hindu God Vishnu called " Karigiri Vaasa". This deity is also referred to as " Lord Srinivas " and is also called as " Bairagi Venkatesh " . The ephitet / title " Bairagi " for this idol is derived from the fact that when Alankara ( Flower decorations) is done to the deity, it looks like a Bairagi ( Mendicant). The Karigiri hill stands at a height of 2697 feet above sea level. It supports dry scrub jungle and many Tamarind and Gooseberry trees are found around the temple. There are 3 types of Srinivas are in this temple. They are Vaikuntha Srinivasa ( Main God of the shrine), Yoga Srinivas ( without his consorts/wives) and Bhoga Srinivasa idols. Apart from this Goddess Padmavathi is on western side of the temple. It is believed that the great sage Bhrigu has done the Prathisthapana ( installation) of the god here. Again you have given wrong information that 550 steps are required for climbing the hill to the temple. Actually the hill may be climbed by 450 stone steps only. This stone steps lead to a flat hilltop where the temple stands. From the hill we can have superb Panoramic views of Srirangapatna and Mysuru. The famous Nimishamba temple which is on the banks of Kaveri river at Srirangapatna can be clearly seen from the top of Karigiri hills. It is said that the hill got its name after a Wild Elephant Kari, attacked and killed four girls taking bath. To bring them back to life , Sage Kutsamuni undertook a rigorous penance ( Tapas in Kannada) and requested the lord to save his Devotees. God Srinivasa appeared and saved the four girls and stayed here. So the name is called as Karigiri. Gradually to the influence in language by British people or local people Karigiri name has turned to Karighatta. So Original name of this place is Karigiri. If you have added this point, the weightage of this video would have been more . It is also referred in Varaha purana as " Neelachala" a Sanskrit word which means ' Blue mountain '. Legend has said it was on this hill that the British people had placed their Cannon ( Firangi in Kannada) during the siege of Srirangapatna war times. Again you have provided wrong information here. The traditional car festival ( Rathotsava) is held every year is believed to have been initiated by sage Vaikanasa as early as in Trethayuga. This practice is being continued and Annual fair ( Brahmotsava of the temple) takes place during Kumbha Maasa/ Phalguna ( Kannada month). I.e. February or March month of English calendar every year. In Shravana Maasa ( I.e. August or September) special Alankara will be done to main God Srinivas here. No Rathotsava or any utsava is done here at that time. Hoping you will clearly rectify this important type of point in your coming future videos. Again you have provided wrong information that by saying that it is Karnataka's Tirupathi. It is only one of the Srinivasa temple in Karnataka. Actually Chikkatirupathi, near Malur is considered as Karnataka Tirupathi. Shri Prasanna Venkatesh swamy ( with his both wives) are there in Garbhagudi in Chikkatirupathi. Chikkatirupathi is located in hobli of Malur taluk, Kolar District. It is in outskirts of Bengaluru. Like main Tirumala Srinivasa temple, daily Kalyanotsava is conducted here. Speciality is that Lord Srinivas is with his both wives and this temple is there from first day of Kaliyuga. Story of this place related with Arjuna and Krishna of Mahabharata. This place is just 15 kms from Malur, 26 kms from ITPL, 30 kms from Koramangala , 46 kms from Bengaluru and 6 kms from Kalkunte Agrahara. In Kalkunte Agrahara there is a famous 250 years old Ranganatha temple. It is a special Ranganatha where we can find both Sridevi and Bhoodevi are there at the feet of Ranganatha. Another Speciality of this Ranganatha is it has Brahma from its stomach and whole Ranganatha Vigraha is carried by Lord Garuda. Both Chikkatirupathi and Kalkunte Agrahara Ranganatha temples are Sri vaishnava temples only. The travelling time to Chikkatirupathi from Bengaluru is only 1 hour and BMTC bus route number 304 series ply from Majestic busstand, Tin factory, K R Market, Hebbal and Yelahanka to this temple only very frequently. This temple is open from 6.30 am to 7.30 PM ( all days of a week) and has four daily rituals at various times of the day. Special pooja will be conducted to this God on every Saturday and for Darshan heavy queue will be there in this temple. I have visited this Chikkatirupathi Srinivas temple many times. So Karighatta Srinivas temple cannot be considered as Karnataka's Tirupathi as you have said in this video.
