Hi Everyone, welcome back to my channel!
Today's puzzle is an exciting one. I don't know about you, but my puzzle budget is pretty limited and that means that I get the vast majority of my puzzles from thrift stores and buy from online marketplaces like eBay or Facebook marketplace. Liberty puzzles of this size typically go for $100-$150. I found this beauty at the Goodwill for a mere $3.99! As you can imagine I snagged this puzzle off the shelf the second I saw it. I took a few moments to scan the shelves to make sure there weren't any more and then I booked it to the register. What a deal!
If you are unfamiliar with Liberty Puzzles, they are a wooden puzzle company based in Boulder, Colorado. They were established in 2005 and can be found making heirloom-quality puzzles still today. One of my favorite things about wooden puzzles is the funky puzzle piece shapes and the delightful whimsies. A whimsy is a puzzle piece that is cut into a familiar shape (a person, a dog, a wine bottle, etc). They add an element of charm to the puzzle process and add to the beauty of the puzzle. Having not done one in a while, finding the correct puzzle piece takes a little getting used to.This particular puzzle was on the spicier side, especially with all that black background.
Mr. Find Every Little Piece joined me in assembling the entire puzzle. I love that he enjoys puzzles as much as I do. You can see he put together a good majority of this one. I made the mistake of deciding to focus on the text first. What I didn't realize until I was putting them together is the text had a lot of E, F, L, I, and T, letterforms. They all have a lot of the same straight lines and it made figuring out which piece went where a lot harder. Once I stopped looking at the image and focused purely on the shape of the pieces I made a lot more progress. You'll notice that we didn't start with the edge on this one and that was for good reason. These wooden puzzles are quite tricky in that they'll have two edge pieces touch, but you need an inner piece to connect them together. It's very hard to complete an edge like this especially if it's mostly all one solid color. I think leaving it till the end was a sound strategy.
Quality-wise, this was a beautiful puzzle. The pieces are delicate and have unique forms. The artwork was stunning. I have never felt compelled to frame a puzzle but I really considered framing this one. I left it on my desk for the entire weekend thinking about it. I might still frame it in the future to be honest. Something about that wood material elevates a puzzle to another level.
