I've been a huge fan of the sport since I first started running xc and track more than 12 years ago, but I do still sometimes find myself getting tired of the "Workout Wednesday" videos and whatnot. This series though, this series makes me so excited every time I see a new episode. The mixture of fantastic production (better than some documentaries on big name streaming services), the fantastic athletes and coaches, and most of all the pure unfiltered look at a professional athlete's life showing the lows alongside the highs has made this a must watch for me.

I love this series - especially how it shows how much of a mental game this sport is. I'm curious - do you do any runs on your own or is it with the crew? Are there specific benefits or goals that would determine solo vs group runs?
@_Clayton_Young_3 ай бұрын
I usually run all of my shorter second runs by myself-moreso out of convenience-but the rest of my runs are with a group. I think that most of the time running with a group is better. More motivation, accountability, sanity, faster paces typically, etc.

Hey Clayton, I really appreciate your content. BIG INSPIRATION !!! As a dietitian I was wondering if you think that is really necessary to cut carbs the first half of the week before you run in Paris (with the travel, sleeping in the olympic village, a lot of people around) ? Why not just keep the carbs as usual, reduce training as you probably does and make the usual carboloading 2 or 3 days before the marathon ? Good luck in Paris :D
@_Clayton_Young_3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the recommendation! Traditionally I used to cut carbs and increase protein and fats because of the science behind depleting glycogen stores in your body as you cut carbs. From what I understand, this depleted state then forces your body to "hold on to" more glycogen as you carbo load later in the week. In all honesty, in previous marathons I've definitely been mediocre at the carb cutting, and more intentional about the carb loading, but because of your comment as well as several others in the chat, it looks like I need to revisit the science!

What's the science behind cutting out carbs completely for the first half of the week before carb loading?
@jimoconnor85973 ай бұрын
"Old" science said it was good to deplete the glycogen stores as much as possible and then replace them with even more closer to the event, packing in a few more. Newer studies are de-bunking this idea. New science shows no benefit to cutting the carbs before loading. It could also be a comfort/confidence deal from what has always worked.
@_Clayton_Young_3 ай бұрын
Great question. And thanks for your comment on this Jim. You are spot on. Based on this comment as well as others in the chat, it looks like I might be "old school" and I need to revisit the science of carbo loading.
