This song really hits as a woman- loved seeing you take it in and actually HEAR her! Great reaction!

I grew up in a high-demand religion. This song reminds me of the life I escaped by leaving, and makes me feel courageous about breaking the cycle for my kids. If I have any daughters, I hope they never understand what it's like to be comfortable in a subservient role. If I have sons, I hope they never feel comfortable with print people in that position, and I hope they are able to find connection, community, and empathy, rather than feeling isolated and bottled up like so many men have been raised to be.

"high demand religion" I like how you put that. Second generation from Amish here. In THAT aspect, I'm afraid....they are all similar. Thank you!

Her eating the pomegranate is culturally for 1000s of years significant for women. It is one of the fruits that represents feminism and women in history. So something maybe youdidn’t know. It’s actually incredibly important.

She is finally eating the fruits of her labor and she isn’t a bit sorry. She’s destroying it.

I'd definitely recommend her other songs, personally my other favourite is "the fruits" which believe it or not has an even more controversial topic!!

The imagery both in the words and video are deep, even just her relighting her worn down candle while the equivalent on his end is barely touched Capillaries in the eyes burst due to pressure - extreme crying, giving birth, or assault

As a young woman, this songs hits true for me, my ancestors, and all the women around me. This song binds us all together because we have all experienced some form of this hatred.

I think as well as being about the traditional feminine roles, it could also apply to the expectations of the wealthiest classes towards workers.

Solid take, I concur

I enjoyed your reaction. Subscribed. It is a pleasure hearing a man comfortable with a female perspective, not reacting in offense but with an open mind. It is so nice for it to be just a human understanding and not gender wars. People just want respect and affection in return for acts of love in all forms.

I never comment, but this song makes me cry. It’s a song of grief about women struggling in relationships today, but it’s also rage expressed for the struggles of women in generations past.

Almost every line of this song has multiple meanings, and each listen I find another one. Never lifts a finger could mean does no work, but also could mean doesn't hit her. Each reference of labor could mean work, could mean having children. It's not an act of love if you make her could reference so many things, including the bedroom, or marriage in general.

This is a powerful song. You have to really listen to the lyrics and the double meanings. It is just not about being made to do too much labor but issues that woman go through with men.

I think it’s beyond mother or wife - this is the story of every woman.

i love how quickly you caught on! i've seen a couple reactions from guys where they get defensive with the whole "not all men" thing. which, yeah obviously its not literally all men lol. i appreciate how you digested the lyrics, because i honestly think she has a really interesting way of setting the scene in this song

Only some women have experienced all of this, but all women have experienced some of it. We're basically raised being told that our purpose and future is to take care of and serve others. Boys get trucks & plastic power tools, girls get baby dolls & plastic kitchens. A woman who doesn't want kids is selfish or doesn't really know what she wants, while a man isn't questioned. This isn't just about relationships, it's about how society views women as future wives and mothers - not individuals.

It's not an act of love if you make her This does not refer to working around the house this refers to activities in the bedroom.
@samanthaash39446 ай бұрын
It refers to all of it. Most of her lyrics have double or even triple meanings Working in the house. SA. Childbirth. All of it.

We don't all enter marriage voluntarily. Even in 1st world countries in the 21st century. Is it voluntary if every aspect of culture drives you like cattle into a corral?
