I played chess against a guy called Johnny whilst visiting Washington Square Park in NYC last summer! (This park is known for having a ton of chess players and chess hustlers). This was one of my most memorable chess games from NYC so I wanted to share it with you even if it was a while ago, hope you enjoy! :D

@@kaptep01 You must get scammed a lot, since this man is clearly a scammer. You can tell by his body language (Looking around, not focussed on the game, avoids eye contact with his opponent) aswell as him immediately attempting to cheat when his opponent is distracted. He knows exactly what he is doing; I'm no chess expert by any means but I know an illegal move when I see one, you can't tell me this guy doesn't know the rules. And if he does this with an innocent game with no stakes against a friendly person, imagine how far he'd go for 'real' stakes.

One of my favorite quotes that Johnny may like: "To win at chess is to exercise skill. To lose at chess is to gain skill." Ole' Johnny definitely gave me notes on how to teach my son in an enthusiastic way, both in this video and the one where he plays Anna's mom. Shows how we learn from different people in many different ways.

I really like Johnny... nonstop philosophizing babble -- hardly ever looking at the board. Very interesting. In fact, I think he has learned how to babble while actually thinking about his next move, knowing that almost all of his opponents would be completely distracted by it. He also gets the advantage of stopping the clock (as if he's not still working on his next move.) Anna, acting like she's been completely distracted from the game, says, "I feel like I'm learning so many things about life, sitting here." So, at 6:12, after Anna played ...Qf2, the guy talked (and calculated) for 3 minutes and 35 seconds, and made his move: Nc6. Then Anna played Nc5 in 3 seconds. That cracked me up. Then he looked away and tried to cheat while Anna wasn't looking -- but she caught him. I LOL'd. This video was so fun! The actual game wasn't nearly as interesting as the "other" game they were playing.
