Sad to see so many destitute. This elderly lady definitely needs help. I know that not all want help but often it is because of fear and not thinking clearly. What we may perceive as normal in wanting help many others do not. Not all who live in makeshift dwellings are drug addicts. The every day struggles to get food, dealing with emotional stress , loneliness , trying to keep hygiene in order in difficult situations is enough to break anyone. I know there are shelters but many are hesitant to go there. Years of trying to survive often makes people struggle to follow rules . We need a society where the needy, poor, single struggling parents, veterans etc are taken care of. Money spent on weapons and military packages abroad could be well spent on those in need.Bless the lost souls and all struggling, the police and rangers and sanitation workers trying to do their work .

Not sure. There are people who were homeless and turned their lives around because there was good inside of them. They did not feel entitlement. There are multiple resources for homeless people in California.

I can only imagine what tourists from other countries observe and think when they visit tourist spots like Santa Monica and Venice Beach. I was just in Japan last week walked around Tokyo for 5 days saw probably 10 homeless people tops they were respectful, cleaned up all their stuff during day, weren’t harassing anyone or visibly doing drugs in front of adults/children or acting in a way to make me think they needed mental health services and could snap any moment. The idea of shame and honor and respecting others so as not to impose a burden on the quality of life for those around is something I was truly amazed to see first hand. Why not do something positive like force those suffering from mental illness or addiction into programs that can build up their self respect like paying them to clean the city and public places. Then once they have this sense of respect and needed counseling/medication they can start to rebuild their lives. I grew up near Beverly Hills as a kid but moved away for better schooling and employment opportunities and just because I was born there doesn’t mean now as adult I’m entitled to live there for free wherever I want because it’s where my friends or family live. I’ve moved so many times for cheaper housing and better jobs to maintain my independence and not rely on anyone else. Also I didn’t grow up rich either parents are both dead and I’ve known my share of hardships being on my own since 16.

Mental Health is no joke.People can blame this unfortunate woman for all her troubles but mental health untreated can be very dangerous.I have family members who struggle with mental health issues.A few have been in situations to where they were assaulted for talking out of turn to people.People do not realize these folks are very ill.So they react accordingly.I pray this woman gets the help she needs and I will pray for her because she really needs peace and carers in her life to look after her.

This is so sad to see...I think what needs to happen is that they need to open up way more facilities for those with mental illness so they can get the help we need. This lady assaulting the cops is definitely a no no but at the same time I cant help but feel a little bad for her. The situation is complicated. On one hand nobody wants to see a bunch of homeless people pinching tents on the streets because it poses a danger to the public as many of these people are known to act violently. On the other hand, living in a shelter is also an issue because from what i hear the shelters treat these people like ragged dolls and dont care for them. Open up places for these people to get help and assist them to get housing. I think thats the best solution. Its sad that a lot of LA looks like a homeless encampment city. As much as I understand that the homeless need somewhere to go, pinching a tent on public properly shouldnt be allowed. it poses health risks for other people. Especially when many of them use public streets as toilets
