You can't use drugs or alcohol . That is why they would rather sleep in a disgusting public bathroom . Nothing will change until they require the homeless to obey the rules. Overnight camping is illegal on the beach or the streets, write them citations if they don't pay, arrest them, and give them the choice of shelter, rehab, or prison . A functioning society needs rules. Now, everyone has to follow the rules except the homeless. They can sleep anywhere, openly use illegal drugs, and leave trash everywhere with no consequences.

Rules such as you have to be in by 7pm or be exited from programs with jail and prison living conditions side by side, sometimes 3 hard steel bunks high on top of one another with funky drama and screaming all night. Sounds like internment camps in Nazi Germany doesn't it? Homeless shelters in American cities are at 100% capacity with the most horrid conditions in the world, but maybe some elusive housing programs still possible to sober compliant subjects. And once someone does get a Section 8 voucher, it's tricky to find affordable housing within the rent limits set locally in every county in ever state. We all miss when America was economical and united as one being for everyone. There isn't much social mobility for most nor is it cheap to travel and do things like eat out like how it used to be.

Yeah. It’s a cycle of stupidity. As long as these vagrants comply with the police officers’ commands pack up and get out, they can return to the same locations as soon as the cops leave. These cops see the same people day-after-day in the same spots. Unfortunately, California residents keep voting for politicians who allow filth to accumulate in public spaces.

I saw that at long Beach lol, humiliating, California is freaking crazy, going to the bathroom like a prisoner in jail, what a lazy ass solution to the homeless problem, the cheapest one by the way at the expense of the tax payers who now have to wait to get home to use the bathroom, do you normally leave the door open for everyone at your house to see when using the bathroom? LOL of course not, but Gavin Newsom thinks it's progressive. 🤣🙄

I am English and I still have fond memories of my first visit to the USA in 1978. Part of my holiday was four days in Santa Monica, and I remember it being a lovely city. Reading the comments it seems in the space of forty four years to have turned into an extremely unpleasant place. I suppose there are several theories as to why, but it’s a real shame nevertheless.

It’s from years of Liberal policies. They’ve literally upended common sense and decency. I left SoCal 30 years ago and seeing what it’s become I made the best decision ever. I still go back every few years to visit my brother and it reinforces my feelings of why I left in the first place.
