Getting that thing running as quick as you did was an impressive feat. I must say that that is one of the filthiest vehicles that you have dragged in. It’s going to take some serious hours to make it habitable. I wish that you would go back and get that Chevy. I got just a glimpse of it but, I think that it was a ‘51 2-door hardtop which is a pretty rare model. Looks like another epic project for you and your dad.

I love these vans. I had a 1973 V-8 3 on the tree, and a 1970 6 cyl auto. They both had that famous play in the steering. Funny thing is you get so used to that play in the steering that you don't even notice it any more.

That is exactly my story, as well. Ya beat me to it! A Red 1971 Ford Econoline Window van. 240 6cyl auto turned into a camper van. I bought it with a pull-out awning over the side doors... perfect. I insulated it, paneled it, made tufted Naugahyde benches over the wheel wells and a plywood floor with matching indoor/outdoor carpet (think 1976). Wish I still had it!

A friend of mine had a '71 Ford van converted to a camper. It was from up north and a little rusty and had some play in the steering. One day he pulled out of a campground and the steering box fell off the frame. The frame was so rusty that the bolts pulled right through. Be sure to check that location out.

OH my god, memories! I just had a flash back. I had a 71, E300, 302 V8, C6, long wheel base, with swing open side doors, chrome grille and bumpers. Don't believe it had power steering, but had air conditioning. Forty thousand miles in a year, roughly, and then a head on. I had everyone convinced it was a three on the tree. Working in a gas station in the mid seventies, van shows, cruising the streets, going to a friends camp on the Mississippi. WOW! Swivel buckets, and yes, someone shagged this thing out to no end. Thank you guys, NOW, back to reality.

I recently sold my 1970 Ford Econoline Custom SuperVan 200 Chinook Cascade Western Trail Wagons 2 Motorvan. One of only five built and most likely the only surviving example. Undoubtedly the only 95-% original one left. It’s basically a bubble top camper van. When I bought it the mileage was 77K but it had been parked for thirteen years. After going through the fuel system I thought I would crank it over to get some oil pressure before really trying to start it. It blew me away by starting almost immediately and it was idling. After 13 years! I drove it for three years before I gave it a tuneup. I did have to go through the brakes and replace everything but the metal brake lines and drums. It actually got 20mpg too.
