Not sure if anyone's said it yet, but Consort Radahn kinda is zombie Mohg. Miquella resurrected Radahn's spirit into Mohg's body, so he has like weird black horn things on his arms, and he inherited some bloodflame magic (which manifests in one attack). I think when you beat phase 1, you've weakened his spirit enough that it can no longer maintain its presence within the body, so he starts being consumed by bloodflame, and Miquella has to step in and quench it with light magic. Basically holding together his Frankenstein's Monster with his arms.

About your comments on the Fromsoft story-telling: The main idea is that in Myazaki's worlds no one knows the absolute truth to tell you the story. Every NPC or item just tells the portion that they know from the perspective that they understood. You are the only one who could piece it all together and still figure out that you know nothing yet. The realism sometimes hit hard but it makes you a part of the world not just its random hero out of nowhere
@Lowly_Tarnished3 ай бұрын
That's a brilliant take on what FromSoft's narrative is. And as a part of the story, you have the choice to be curious about it or just not care at all and just fight who people tell you to fight. First time I played DS1 I did that, and just chose to not care and do what Frampt said. Then on my second run I met Kaathe and thought "Damn there's much more to the story than I thought", and I began reading items' description and looking around way more. This is much more interesting to me than just having all the narrative simply explained by cinematics and dialogs. Kudos to FromSoft, it takes a lot of talent writing a story like that
@danielpatterson15763 ай бұрын
That’s why I love this kind of storytelling so much. Because it makes me feel like my decisions actually matter, not just for the final ending, but for everyone’s individual lives. It feels like I actually have a relationship with and a tangible impact on the NPCs lives instead of them all just being cardboards that worship me as their hero.
@chan_martin3 ай бұрын
I think he takes big inspiration from Hayao Miyazaki and how his films often focus on soft world building and telling a story that’s less focused on telling what’s happening and more on letting the viewer interpret things in their own way. It respects the viewer and allows them to take a number of things from it. Elden Ring and Souls games are similar in this way. There is some lore to explain things, but the whole experience is based on discovery and forming interpretations based on your own individual experience.
@anonisnoone6125Ай бұрын
I get that but some lore being completely unexplained is just stupid. Like Melina and GEQ queen. Not everything has to be left so cryptic and that's my main problem with Miyazaki's story telling.

Shadow of the Erdtree and Elden Ring as a whole was my favorite soulsbourne experience. Elden ring got me to try out all the other games, but truly after coming back and playing all the games with more experience. Elden Ring just holds such a special place in my heart. Miquella was one of my favorite characters due to the mystery behind him, and having it unfold the way it did to the final boss surprise at the end was just golden. I also love how the St Trina part could go completely missed if you go main line and never find that area or do throlliers quest line. Really sells the mystery, but also the truth behind miquella giving up his heart, his love, and his other half, showing he truly fell into darkness

I don’t get why people are saying the DLC ending was anti-climatic. It’s an addition to the game. The ending of Elden Ring is the ending you got when you beat the base game. I don’t recall there being a big to-do at the end of any of Fromsoftware’s DLC’s. DS3 for example. After Gael is defeated, there isn’t any crazy cutscene or ending. You can go back to the Painting of Ariandel, give the blood to the painter, receive some additional dialogue, but that’s about it. I recall some people complaining back then too though. Maybe it is a let down if you’re not used to their style of story telling. I think it is still important to remember their DLC’s are always additional side content. They are not meant to be a whole new game.
@thomasdixon64763 ай бұрын
Exactly, I think some people forget that it is a dlc, idk why they expect a big ending. Personally, the dlc does a lot for the lore, which is expected from the dlc, and radahn being the final boss does not feel underwhelming
@exodmaster27023 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say that it stands the comparison to the DS3 DLC. For DS1 sure. Manus and everything around it was a totally separate thing and all you could ever get from it in-game cutscene wise was Siph being sad about fighting you. But you actually got an end in DS3. You traveled to the end of time, took the blood Gael spent probably eons to collect and gather and then gave it to the painter so she could create a new and gentle world. The specific mention of Miquella's world being gentle just makes me feel like we saw the efforts of the painter in DS3 and decided to take a knife to her painting so we could keep playing and then called it a day. Yes there is a ton of lore in the DLC to explain lots of stuff in the base game. But being so separate from everything else while also referencing the painted world as something you basically never allowed to be by defeating Miquella is just making sure that you end up deprived of any satisfactory ending and I'm certain that they knew they were doing this.
@DirtyMcMills3 ай бұрын
@@exodmaster2702 Yes you get an ending, but that’s not really what I’m focusing on. I don’t dislike the ending either. Most people say these endings, even the Dark Souls 3 Ringed City Ending, are anti-climatic because there’s no cool cutscenes, narration, etc. You’re just left standing in the boss arena. Same thing with Manus, Kos, all three kings in DS2’s DLC’s, and Sister Friede. “Casual” gamers sometimes need some sort of event to happen that lets them know they did it; Game Over. Someone such as yourself who appreciates the nuances of FromSoftware games won’t be bothered as much by the lack of end-game visuals and narration.

@thomasdixon6476 this sounds like a take from someone who has only ever played elden ring, Dark souls 1 gave us Manus, Dark souls 2 gave us 3 unique bosses, Dark souls 3 gave us gale and bloodborne gave us orphan of kos, all expanded on pre established lore and finalized the games, meanwhile elden ring gives us a weird radahn clone that isn't even lore accurate to radahn and is equally the most overtuned boss in souls history.
@DirtyMcMills3 ай бұрын
@@thomasdixon6476 Agreed. I enjoyed the final fight with Radahn as well. I don’t agree with people saying it’s cheap to use the same boss. He is nothing like the Radahn we fight in Caelid. It is a totally different boss. At least I thought so. I was very much blown away by the twist at the end there. I remember just flashing back to all the base game lore around Miquella, Malenia, Mohg, and Radahn. Moments such as the game trailer where Malenia whispers into Radahn’s Ear. Based off the DLC Radahn armor description, it appears that she was telling Radahn that Miquella awaited him as she bloomed. It all felt cohesive to me and it turned everything I knew upside down. I loved every bit of it. 😸

In classic FromSoft fashion they twist Miquellas character to make him the perpetrator of so many things, namely the conflict between Malenia and Radahn. He was treated as a victim when really he was a master manipulator and convinced others to act in his stead, or make them fight to achieve his goals when words could not. Radahn being his consort is not what Radahn wished to do, but using Mohg’s body/spirit he’s able to bring Radahn back to his prime as his own servant.

A bit late to the party, but @Parkenharbor, the story is left to the player's interpretation in Dark Souls/Elden Ring by Miyazaki's design. When he was a kid he loved reading books and be absorbed in the stories, but he didn't quite understand all the worlds or intricacies of the story, so a lot was left to his own interpretation, still he relished the experience. That's what he wants to share with the player base, where you can only understand portions of the story, and you have to fill in the blanks with your own imagination. Then the overall story kinda gets tailored to each players, to their own interpretation.

I still think it would’ve made much more sense narratively and probably better gameplay wise for Godwyn to be Miquellas consort. His death by ranni (of body alone) triggered marika to shatter the Elden Ring, Miquella also already attempted to revive Godwyns soul at Castle Sol in the base game and wasn’t successful because radhan needed to be killed by malenia in order to make the stars move again so the eclipse could happen. (At least why I thought radhans death would be necessary to start the dlc) Godwyns death knights also are in the land of shadow looking for him.
@matthewbyrd8103 ай бұрын
I disagree, Miquella's efforts regarding Godwyn were focused on putting his soul to rest, not reviving him. Godwyn was killed by the knives imbued with fragments of Destined Death leaving his body alive but soulless. Miquella, known for his compassion, sought to end Godwyn's suffering and restore the natural order (this is supported by the golden epitaph description reading "O brother, lord brother, please die a true death."). The events at Castle Sol and the eclipse are part of rituals surrounding death and afterlife, not resurrection. Radahn's death impacts the stars and Ranni's questline, not Godwyn's state. Godwyn's death knights search for him to protect his legacy, not to bring him back to life since in the death Knight item descriptions it says they seek him for the coming age of the duskborn which is Fia's quest line which also leads to Godwyn dying a true death since she seeks to bring back the natural cycle of life and death back to the lands between.

I really do not think that Elden Ring was ever intended to be Dark Souls 4. My reasoning is that Dark Souls 3 literally provides us with an ending to the trilogy. They also were very explicit upon Ds3's release that it was to be the final game in the dark souls franchise.
@difficult_aardvark3 ай бұрын
But it still clearly built off of DS3. The differences are superficial.
@Fyrestar3 ай бұрын
@@difficult_aardvark that's just from software though. They reuse ideas and expand upon previous ideas regardless of the game. Dark Souls 1 was likely never intended to be Demon's Souls 2. Bloodborne was almost certainly never intended to be Dark Souls 3. And yet both those games take from what came before because they're games by the same dev that are all from the same genre. All i'm saying is that the similarities don't mean that there was a secret ds4 in the making because they've made it very clear for a while now that there was never going to be and that ds3 was always intended to be the ending of that franchise. Also elden ring is built off of ds3 a little but it's fundamentally very very different in terms of its design philosophy for a lot of things.

@@Fyrestar and yet it is still still just open world ds3. The story is even nearly identical but with different names 😂😂😂

Your gameplay looks so damn smooth compared to how janky it is for me :/ do you use the fps unlocker or something? anyway cheers appreciate ya

It’s the black knife set, looted in Ordina, Liturgicial town (which is in the consecrated snowfields) You can find it under the stair to the teleporter iirc.

I have a question I used after I saw this the head for extra 20 percent for poison or rot along with talisman. They don’t stack. I don’t know where she got this idea or if it’s me I have both of them equipped and damage only boosts 20% once. I tested thoroughly they don’t stack. Am I doing something wrong?

I started with DS3, Elden Ring was the next FromSoft game I played but I played the shit outta both of them. I will say in all honestly that even though it's a cool spectacle, the radahn fight was too easy. I got it on my 4th try. And I think the lack of post-fight content is garbage. They definitely should have either added a new ending for the base game if the dlc is complete or at the very least be able to walk up to the gate and see through it at the potential age of compassion that may have been. FromSoft usually never misses but imho this was a huge missed opportunity by cutting it short. PS. I wish deathblight was involved more. I think I would have liked that madness area better if it were deathblight instead. And Bayles fire color made me think Bayle would be a madness dragon xD which would be awesome

This being Dark Souls 4 makes no sense. DS3 ended the way it did to bring the series to a close. They wouldn't undermine the ending by making another one

I dislike how you cut off all the cool things about a boss fight and only show the first try and the try you beat it.
