I got a 1999 parker fly in February and I love that guitar. The only thing that scares me is I have a model back when they made there own stereo output jacks in house and it will not be an easy fix if it fails.

Parker Fly Guitars come with a 0.09 Spring installed from the factory and they come with an 0.010 spring and all the tools in the case. So you can go to a set of 10s if that is what you prefer. It might be odd looking but the Vibrato system works just great IF it the setup is done right one time. The only people bitching about it are the ones that use the wrong string/spring combination, and the ones that tune up to pitch while it isn't in the locked position. If you do that right, you can dive around like crazy and it will come back to zero every time. String broken? Switch to the locked mode and keep playing. If you're lucky with a FR you can take off 2-3 windings and put it back in the bridge. It's just great to adjust the resistance of the Arm with the big wheel. With the pre-refined models you can do that on stage whatever the song needs. They later banned it to live in the attic...i mean back cavity. Problem was that curious monkeys came along seeing the wheel and played around with it...if you turn and turn and turn you'll overtighten it and you have to repair it. Again, you had to protect people from themselves. Can you imagine that there were people owning that expensive, high end guitar and didn't even bother to read the short, well written manual to learn about their instrument? If you ever get back/shoulder/neck pain and you think about quitting...buy one of those. You'll play a 4 hour show without feeling a thing. Perfect position on the strap, weighing in at around 5 pounds (around 2,27kg for sophisticated rest of the world) depending on the wood combination based on the model and the paint job.

I love my nitefly. I was wondering how do you changed to locked position quickly. Is it done with the screw hole at the end of the tremolo in line with the bar?

The little ball bearing trem is actually the newer one. The leaf with the weird wheel is the older system.
@OtherworldJudge8911 жыл бұрын
Does the trem put your guitar out of tune? I'm still new to guitar, and my one has it, but someone told me not to use it too frequently as they can gradually de-tune your guitar. I have an Ibanez RG, with a locking tremolo, but it goes both ways (up and down), so i dunno lol.

Just ran across your vid because I’m working on a fly with tremolo and ball bearings on the saddles. A different version has the one piece saddle but it’s almost .030 higher at the saddle break point. So it makes the strings too high and I can’t adjust the saddle block any lower. I noticed the duel thread screws that make the up and down adjustments for string height seem a bit different end to end. Do they have to be oriented a certain way to work properly? I’m having problems getting the action low enough.

Thanks so much for all your videos, I'm slowly making my way through all of them. I'm teaching myself to be an amateur guitar technician while studying music at University and you've been a massive help. I have a quick question; I have a Parker P-38 and I've heard the grooves cut for the pickups are too shallow for conventional pickups to fit in, do you know anything about that? Thanks!

Holy shit, how big is the routed cavity on the white Parker? Is the the pick guard visible from the trem spring pocket?

It looks like you need an auto tool to get the slip washers out of the height adjustments. If you needed to replace them. I have a zero resistance tremolo on my Ibanez that is very similar to that one. I'm tempted to make a video of it.

Hey Dave, i have a Deluxe strat with s1 switching and i want to change the pick ups. Will i be able to use the switch after changing them?
@thelongslowgoodbye9 жыл бұрын
You'd think that Parker would put some special tremolo springs in the back of it or stuff the springs with some foam to stop it from ringing since it's so close to the pickup but I guess they didn't bother. Strange..

question for you dave do you recommend i do the truss rod myself when setting up my bass from walkthroughs online or i take it to a professional for $40 bucks

If you decide to do it yourself, parker suggest you only do 1/6 turn at a time, little changes do a lot....

I'm don't really like trem systems I guess that is why I play Telecasters. Also no Bigsby for me either lol It is very cool seeing different takes on them though. I had one American Standard Strat and I always heard people say that using the trem would make the guitar go out of tune. I never had a problem with that. What say you Dave ? :)
@ZemanG210 жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting but the Fly changes the spring by loosening the tension wheel. The Parker definitely has an odd look but play before you judge. The older DiMarzios sound great, And yes the rout in the Nitely is crazy huge, but the sound is something else.
@thelongslowgoodbye9 жыл бұрын
+ZemanG2 Can you get different leaf springs for different string gauges? I'd hate to be stuck with 10s the whole time and not be given the choice of having different string gauges.
@ZemanG29 жыл бұрын
Yes they have 9-12, if you need one you can call the factory.

IMHO, they're fancy guitars... I still prefer Fender's tried & true workhorse. Play it til it peels and looks like an axe handle for a neck. I just love Fender and you have more available options that won't cause you to deface your guitar. I've got to grab two stickers, I always forget once I finish the channel feed.

my friend put drop c strings on his fender and it warped his neck bad- granted he had it in storage for a while and never touched the thing but it killed his neck awful- to do it truly right you pretty much have to permanently shin the neck so yeah not the best thing for a guitar with those thick strings

No trems for me......I leave that to Brian Setzer and Duane Eddy, they pretty much cornered the market.
