I have successfully put one retainer for one shoe 1 about 1 hour of struggling, I have left the second one after 40 minutes, my hands are hurting and out there was 34 degrees Celsius. Now as I will calm down I can put back the retainer in no time, like a boss. Thank you Ozzstar.

glad to see an actual mechanic using this method, I thought I was the only one who did it this way, I was frustrated with the difficulty of compressing the spring well simultaneously holding the pin while trying to place the retaining clip failing and repeating failing cursing and repeating, out of frustration I thought just compress the spring with vice grips and hold the compression with 2 bread ties, and now the most difficult part became the easiest part of the break job

@ozzstars_cars I've been reconditioning the 4 brakes on our 2012 Gm SUV. And found a loose lining on the parking brake. While Amazoon had the replacements here in one day ... I spent a chunk of time ... wrestling those darn clips. I got them off, but those short springs are TOUGH ! I wasn't sure I'd have much luck at putting them back on. So, this evening, I was looking for a tool, but I was reading that they are not the correct size, bummer. That's when I stumbled upon your video. That's what I like about KZbin .. I can always find a smart person with an ingenious solution ! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦 👍

I struggled for about an hour with those retainers. On a 2011 camry, the caps are partially obstructed behind the outer wheel hub making it especially difficult. I went in to my computer and found your tip. I didn't think i was getting enough compression with the bread ties so I got some Xmas wreath wire , which is a bit heavier than a bread tie and that held the spring so compressed that I could just put it on with my fingers and twist. I also used some pieces of wood the push against the "nail" so i did not have to use a hand to hold it in place. Awesome tip, thanks!
